Lynda Carter to Receive Paley Honors Tribute for WONDER WOMAN Series’ 50th Anniversary

In 1975, actress Lynda Carter stepped into the role of Diana Prince on television’s Wonder Woman, becoming the first person to portray the character in live-action. Her version of the DC Comics superhero icon became a global sensation and the series ran for three seasons. It inspired decades of merchandise, cosplay and, more importantly, it inspired little girls everywhere to realize they could be the hero of the story too. Fifty years later, Variety reports that The Paley Center for Media is honoring Lynda Carter at the 2025 Paley Honors Spring Gala. Carter will receive her honors at the annual New York celebration on May 19.

In a statement, the President of The Paley Center for Media Maureen J. Reidy said “Lynda Carter’s iconic portrayal remains a timeless symbol of strength, courage, and empowerment.” We’d say that’s an understatement. Yes, others have portrayed Wonder Woman in media outside of comic books, particularly in animated projects. There’s also Gal Gadot’s portrayal in several DCEU films. Yet Lynda Carter remains the default Wonder Woman in the minds of most. In addition to Carter, The Paley Center will also honor the TV series Good Morning America, which also turns fifty this year, among others.

In the decades since she played the Amazon princess, Lynda Carter has dedicated her life to philanthropy and activism. She’s worked with several organizations like the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum, the City of Hope, and the ERA Coalition. Carter has also fiercely advocated Susan G. Komen for the Cure, abortion rights, and legal equality for LGBTQ people, recognizing Wonder Woman’s status as an LGBTQ icon.

In 2020, Carter made a cameo in Wonder Woman 1984 as the ancient Amazon warrior Asteria. But with James Gunn rebooting the DC Universe, it’s unlikely she’ll reprise that character. It doesn’t matter though, because to millions, Lynda Carter will always be THE Wonder Woman. We cannot of many others who are as deserving of this recognition.

The POWERPUFF GIRLS Will Soon Air on TV Once Again

The Powerpuff Girls are flying back to our screens, heading to their original home, Cartoon Network. To be clear, this is not a Powerpuff Girls revamp or reboot. We are not talking about the IYKYK defunct live-action show whose pilot was recently leaked. (But while we’re on the topic, that trailer was definitely a weird one, to say the least. I’ve always been of the opinion that the Powerpuff Girls cartoon was camp, but not in the way that the live-action trailer was.) But regardless of any live-action attempts, Cartoon Network will be rerunning episodes of the OG The Powerpuff Girls beginning April 12 with a new Saturday morning schedule, according to @CNschedules. The lineup also includes Teen Titans Go! and Steven Universe. The Powerpuff Girls is reportedly on at 10:30 AM, following Steven Universe.

Blosson, Buttercup, and Bubbles leap into action in promo art for Powerpuff Girls.Hanna-Barbera/Warner Bros. Animation

Cartoon Network is riding the wave of renewed Powerpuff Girls interest after its aestheticization in the cultural zeitgeist. From its Y2K style influence to popular music groups like New Jeans using the characters and theming for their music, The Powerpuff Girls couldn’t be more relevant right now. And that’s why they’re returning to TV screens and on-air programming for the first time in years. It seems like Warner Bros. Animation is extra aware of the nostalgia for shows like The Powerpuff Girls thanks to Adult Swim’s “Checkered Past” programming block, which plays reruns of classic Cartoon Network shows from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Reruns are not necessarily the most exciting news in the world, but it’s no cause for lost hope yet. In 2022, there was news of a reboot of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Craig McCracken, the original creator of the shows, even signed on as a developer. However, no more information on this has been released since the initial announcement.

The Powerpuff Girls is available to binge in its entirety on Max.

MAGIC: THE GATHERING’s SECRET LAIR Debuts New SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS Collection

The entire Bikini Bottom gang is coming ashore in the new Magic: The Gathering‘s Secret Lair collections. Characters from the SpongeBob SquarePants series will appear on cards with unique art styles in three distinct packs. Secret Lair is a brand under the Magic: The Gathering umbrella, which has drops based on collaboration with different artists or IP. Secret Lair has recently announced collections with Spider-Man, Final Fantasy, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. SpongeBob SquarePants is the latest addition to the pool of Magic: The Gathering sets.

(L) Patrick card from Secret Lair x Spongebob Squarepants. (R) Spongebob card.Wizards of the Coast

One of the three packs, Magic: The Gathering‘s Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants: Legends of Bikini Bottom pack, has cards of all the main characters, giving them abilities and artwork to match with their in-show persona. Plankton cannot block, probably because he is a small plankton, whereas Sandy is a martial astronaut whose moves can’t be countered because she is too skilled. Caleb Meurer and Gregg Schigiel are artists for the Legends of Bikini Bottom pack.

Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants: Internet Sensation uses a variety of the most popular Spongebob memes. Trust, I would know. One of the counterspell cards is the mocking Spongebob meme. If you’re a fan of the show, you may remember this image from when Spongebob keeps doing an involuntary chicken impression while looking at plaid. Another card is the Squidward eyes meme, where it says, “You draw two cards and you lose 2 life.” This is definitely how I feel when I’m about to sleep and remember I have homework.

Secret Lair x SpongeBob SquarePants: Lands Under the Sea includes cards that highlight different locations in Bikini Bottom and the coveted Krusty Krab staple, The Krabby Patty, through art done by Jon Vermilyea. You can check out all the cards in the gallery below.

The Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair x Spongebob packs are now available for purchase on the Secret Lair website. The regular versions will retail for $29.99. For something a bit more elevated, the three packs will also be available as foil versions for $39.99.

Get A MINECRAFT MOVIE-Themed Grimace During McDonald’s Collab

Your fast food meal is about to get a little more…blocky. McDonald’s x Minecraft is a reality with a new collaboration between the two brands for the upcoming live-action A Minecraft Movie produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. In anticipation of A Minecraft Movie, you can expect to see new meals, packaging based on the video game world, and exclusive collectibles. McDonald’s is no stranger to pop culture collaborations in recent years, having dipped their toes into the world of the popular TV show Friends, Rick and Morty, and pop group BTS. In most of these collaborations, McDonald’s adds a new themed meal to their menu along with an exclusive sauce. The Minecraft collaboration is getting the full treatment with both A Minecraft Movie Meal and A Minecraft Movie Happy Meal.

Both meals come with custom packaging, a Nether Flame sauce, A Minecraft Movie-themed toys, and in-game downloadable content codes. The A Minecraft Movie Happy Meal comes with the regular Happy Meal fixings and scannable game code. The toy element is one of twelve A Minecraft Film-inspired figurines or Block World toys. Details on the game are scarce, but the McDonald’s website says it involves players completing a quest in the A Minecraft Movie universe.

Grimace, Birdie the Early Bird, and the Hamburglar in Block form holding Minecraft figures of themselves.McDonald’s

A Minecraft Movie Meal comes with one of six collectible figurines that are inspired by McDonald’s characters and the film. Each figure comes with a matching card and a DLC code to unlock the character’s skin in Minecraft. Along with this, fans will get a one-time redeemable code unlocking the McDonald’s Add-On pack in the game. This includes “McDonaldland characters, builds, and tools.” The figurines are as follows:

Big Mac Crystal – Mined from the sea of special sauce, this precious block derives its radiant shine from melty cheese and a toasty sesame seed bun. Birdie Wings – Keep your eye to the sky or you might miss the early bird soaring high above the clouds with a rare pair of elytra wings. Fry Helmet – Forged from the iconic French Fry box, this enchanted helmet is rumored to protect you from friends stealing your last Fry. Grimace Egg – Emerging from the depths of a purple shake, this magical Grimace mob gets its shape from the most coveted egg of them all. Soda Potion – The electrifying effect of this potion is as mysterious as its recipe: an accidental combo of fantastic fizzy flavors. Zombie Hamburglar – Little is known about this hungry mob who spawns late at night and wanders all biomes in search of hamburgers.

As for the edible contents of the meals, the regular meal includes a choice between a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets with a medium drink and fries. Make sure to try to get the nuggets so you can dip them in the Nether Flame Sauce condiment. It’s a limited-edition hot sauce with tasting notes of crushed red pepper, cayenne, hints of garlic, and a little sweetness. You can also add just the sauce to any McDonald’s order.

You can check out A Minecraft Movie in theatres April 4 and maybe grab some nuggets on the way.

SEVERANCE Finally Explained Macrodata Refinement and What ‘The Numbers’ Mean

It took two full seasons, but Severance finally explained the “mysterious and important” work of macrodata refinement. What exactly have those severed MDR employees been doing all this time? What do “the numbers” on their computer screen actually mean? And what do we still not know about those files? Unless you can sever yourself from spoilers make sure to watch the show’s season two finale before we conquer these questions.

[image error]What We Know About Macrodata Refinement, the “Numbers,” and “Cold Harbor” on SeveranceHarmony Cobel with NDR numbers super imposed on her face on SeveranceApple TV+

“The numbers are your wife.” With that line “Mrs. Selvig” finally revealed to Mark S. just what it is he’s been doing on Lumon’s severed floor for two years.

When an MDR employee works on a file like, “Tumwater” or “Minsk,” they are creating a room. We know from earlier in season two those rooms are physical places, each with their own distinct experience. They are also severed rooms. The completion of that file creates a whole new distinct Innie consciousness for a person, which fully forms when they complete an efficacy test within the room.

A refiner completes a room when they finish putting number clusters into digital buckets. Those seemingly bunches have always elicited emotional responses in the refiners. Now we know it’s because they are “a doorway into the mind” of a subject. In Mark S.’s cases the numbers were a doorway into his Outie’s wife, Gemma Scout. Clusters evoke feelings in refiners because they represent the Four Tempers Kier Eagan identified as making up the human soul: Woe, Frolic, Malice, and Dread.

Gemma getting dental work with file names superimposed over her face on SeveranceApple TV+

Mark S. had completed 24 files before the season two finale. Those file then created 24 distinct Innie identities for Gemma. “Cold Harbor,” which also gave the episode its name, was meant to be his last. It was also meant to be a “momentous day” for Lumon, an achievement they said would be among the greatest in the history of humanity.

That final file was the ultimate test to see if Lumon could create an unbreakable barrier between a human and their severed identities. “Cold Harbor” saw Gemma face the most painful experience of her life, her miscarriage, but not even taking apart a baby crib could hurt her. The “barriers” of her special experimental chip held. Her Outie consciousness, and all of the trauma she had experienced, did not impact her “Cold Harbor” Innie. As she dismantled that baby crib without emotion she was fulfilling Kier Eagan’s “ultimate grand agendum,” which Mr. Drummond said was a quest to eliminate pain entirely.

Gemma on a monotir dismantaling a baby crib on SeveranceApple TV+

If she had finished her efficacy test Lumon was going to remove the chip with 25 Innies from Gemma’s brain, killing her. The company, which also wouldn’t need Mark Scout anymore, then would have entombed her with a sacrificial goat full of “verve” and “wiles.” That goat would have then guided her spirit to “sit” with Kier Eagan in the afterlife. Fortunately Mark Scout stopped her from finishing “Cold Harbor” and helped his wife escape. Dr. Mauer said he was killing “all” of her Innies in doing so. (Who cares what he says, though. That creepy monster can go to Hell.

So we now know what MDR files are, what the numbers represent, the “mysterious and important” work MDR refiners do, what “Cold Harbor” was all about, what made Gemma and her new severance chip unique, what Lumon had planned for her, and what all of this has to do with Kier Eagan and his dream.

And yet, even with all that knowledge, there’s still so much we don’t know about MDR and Gemma Scout’s role for Lumon’s unknown grand plan.

What We Still Don’t Know About Macrodata Refinement on SeveranceGemma looks worried on SeveranceApple TV+

The short-lived replacement refinement team Seth Milchick put together in season two’s premiere revealed that Lumon has MDR employees around the world. Mark’s long-term colleagues like Dylan G. and Irv B. also worked on and completed their own files. Who were they creating rooms for? How many people did Lumon kill developing the technology for Gemma’s chip? Lorne has had to sacrifice a lot of goats.

We also don’t know if there was a reason Gemma’s own husband had to work on her files specifically. And even if we accept the premise the Four Tempers are the “building blocks” of a human mind, how did Lumon digitize emotions into numbers? How does “refining” them (whatever that even means!) then create a physical room that can then create a new Innie? What’s the actual science behind any of this?

Jame Eagan looking at a computer on SeveranceApple TV+

And why 25 Innies? Why that specific number? Is that the limit Lumon has identified is possible for one mind to hold? What was the company going to do with Gemma’s special barrier severance chip? Study it? Use it in someone else? Create 25 Gemma Innies in other bodies?

Most importantly, though—even after everything we learned about “Cold Harbor,” Gemma, and even Kier Eagan’s dream for a pain free world, where Innies don’t have to worry about their Outie’s heartbreak or suffering—we don’t know why Jame Eagan is doing any of this. Or why he believes this technology will change the world.

What was Lumon planning to do with Gemma’s chip that they considered its eventual completion one of the greatest moments in mankind’s history? We have no idea, just theories. And based on what we do know so far all of them scare us.

SUITS LA Will Bring Back Daniel Hardman for More Drama

Suits LA is continuing to bring more of the original show’s cast into the fold. Harvey Specter and Louis Litt are both heading to LA and now their former boss will appear too. Deadline reports that David Costabile will reprise his role as Daniel Hardman in Suits LA

Daniel was the co-founder of Pearson Hardman, the firm that all the Suits drama revolved around. After embezzling money to take care of his mistress while his wife died of cancer, Jessica Pearson and Harvey Specter hit him with a little blackmail to get him out of the company. He was the show’s first villain and continued to pop up throughout its run to be a horrible human.

He comes back, gets kicked out again, and constantly bumps heads with Harvey. Their final showdown in season 8 led to Hardman losing his license to practice law. It was all so darn messy and we loved it.

Here’s What Happens with Harvey Specter in SUITS LA

It will be interesting to see how Daniel Hardman plays into Suits LA. It could simply be through a series of flashbacks or there could be news that he is somehow practicing law again despite his many schemes. We don’t know if he will share the screen with Harvey or Louis, if his appearance is in the present. But we are pretty sure that no matter what, he’s going to bring a lot of drama.

Amanda Seyfried Turned Down Role as Gamora in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

When it comes to Hollywood, there are always famous “what-ifs” that haunt us (and sometimes actors) forever. We all know that Will Smith questions why he took the role in Wild Wild West instead of becoming The Matrix’s Neo. But what many MCU fans don’t know is that Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña was not the first choice for Gamora. In a recent interview, Amanda Seyfried reveals that she got an offer to star in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie as Gamora but turned it down.

Seyfried talked about her choice on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. After getting the offer, she thought about it for a few days and then decided to not take the role for a few reasons. She feared that the film would potentially be the first Marvel movie flop and didn’t want to trash her career. Amanda Seyfried also didn’t want to take on the hefty task of sitting through the makeup and prosthetics needed to portray the green-hued Gamora.

“I was really scared of the idea of being stuck and painted a different color because of the amount of time [it takes],” Seyfried said. “It was a giant opportunity. I had just met James in person. He is wonderful. Apparently someone said he didn’t remember but it’s definitely true. I definitely got the offer for it and I mulled over it for a couple days. I didn’t want to live in London for six months out of the year. There was another movie I really wanted to do with Seth MacFarlane called A Million Ways to Die in the West. It felt like a good opportunity.”

“Let’s also remember that being a part of the first Marvel movie that bombs ain’t good for your career,” she added. “I thought that because this was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon that it would be Marvel’s first bomb and me and Chris Pratt would never work again. I was wrong! But I was just being smart. It’s not brave.”

split image of amanda seyfried in the dropout and zoe saldana in guardians of the galaxy as gamoraBeth Dubber/Hulu/Marvel Studios

This sounds pretty wild to hear but it totally makes sense if you think about it. Up until then, the steadily rising MCU was all about Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and the Avengers collective, all pretty well-known heroes to both comic fans and general movie fans. For a lot of folks, the Guardians of the Galaxy were a weird team that people weren’t sure about, especially those like Seyfried who weren’t familiar with this world.

No, Peter Quill and Gamora Don’t End Up Together in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3?

In 2012, she was in the Best Picture nominated film Les Misérables and her career was on an upward trajectory. As she said in her interview, a film involving a “talking raccoon” and a “talking tree” probably didn’t sound like the best next move.

Of course, we all know that Guardians of the Galaxy became a successful film that led to its own franchise within a larger franchise. And Gamora went on to be a part of larger films like Avengers: Endgame. It’s hard to really imagine anyone else playing that role besides Zoe Saldaña, to be honest. And Seyfried said that she doesn’t regret her decision at all. She went on to have a great career but we will always wonder what she would’ve been like in the MCU.

Everything We Know About the DCU’s LANTERNS Series

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is officially off and running. We have movies and TV shows to look forward for the foreseeable future, and some of them are already in the works. Creature Commandos is already streaming on Max. Superman will hit cinemas in July while Peacemaker season two will premiere in August. The next series we have to look forward to doesn’t have a release date as of yet. However, it’s the project we’re maybe the most excited for at the moment. That is, of course, Lanterns, at last a full scale prestige drama series focusing on the oft-overlooked intergalactic police force.

Recently, Deadline revealed that J. Alphonse Nicholson, known for his role on P-Valley, will have a recurring role as a younger John, Sr. in the series. Sherman Augustus will have a more regular role as the the current John, Sr.

This is everything we know so far about Lanterns.

Title

The title of the series is simply Lanterns. The green is implied, I guess.

John Stewart and Hal Jordan artwork for the TV series Lanterns.DC StudiosLanterns Plot

In his initial video announcing the DC Studios slate, James Gunn described the show John Stewart and Hal Jordan investigating a “terrifying mystery” that has huge ties to the entire franchise. He likened the “Earthbound” story to True Detective.

Later descriptions include a fuller look at the plot. “Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Behind the Scenes

Ozark showrunner and True Detective: Night Country producer Chris Mundy will serve as Lanterns‘ showrunner. Mundy along with comic writer Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow) and Damon Lindelof (Lost, Watchmen) have written the series pilot and bible.

James Gunn and Peter Safran said of the announcement: “We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”

“When we first started the DCU, the first couple of weeks of heading this out, we got together with a group of writers, and Tom King was one of those writers, and we were in this room, and we came up with sort of this concept for Lanterns. It’s a much more it’s a very grounded series, a very real series, which is a strange thing to say about a Green Lanterns show. But it’s going to be something like nobody’s ever seen before.”

James Hawes, director of series like Doctor Who, Penny Dreadful, and Black Mirror, will direct the the first two episodes of Lanterns. He, along with the writers above, will serve as executive producers.

Taking to social media, James Gunn revealed a first-look image from Lanterns. And in it, we get our first look at Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern Ring. Additionally, we see Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart together for the first time.

Gunn notes in his post, “Excited that #Lanterns is now in production. DC Studios’ new show for HBO and Max, from creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, & Tom King, starring Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre, is something really special.”

Filming is expected to take place from January to June 2025.

Lanterns‘ CastKyle Chandler as Hal Jordan in LanternsNBC/DC Comics

The series will focus on the veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan working a case with rookie GL John Stewart. In order to play these roles, DC would need some heavy hitters. And heavy hitters they got! Kyle Chandler (Bloodline, Friday Night Lights) has been cast as Hal Jordan.

To play the role of John Stewart, DC cast Aaron Pierre. Pierre had a big 2025 with both the Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge and as the titular voice in Disney’s not-live-action live action film Mufasa.

“Aaron Pierre is somebody who I’ve wanted to work together with for a long time,” said James Gunn during an NYCC panel. “People don’t know, but he was almost cast as Adam Warlock. He’s an amazing actor, and I just really admired him from the beginning of his career. Seeing him read with Kyle was one of those miraculous moments. I don’t care what they’re saying, I just love what they’re saying together.”

Boardwalk Empire‘s Kelly Macdonald also joins Lanterns as “Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.” According to Deadline, Kelly Macdonald’s character may also “be a potential love interest for Chandler’s Hal Jordan.” Very interesting.

Additionally, Jason Ritter joins Lanterns as Billy Macon. The official description for this character notes, “Billy Macon is a good-looking charmer who does his father’s bidding. Capitalizing on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.

Lanterns‘ Release Date

As of yet, Lanterns has no official release date. However, James Gunn gave us a hint as to when it will likely drop. He intends for the series come out around the same time as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which currently looks to bow in June 2026.

SEVERANCE Scores Season 3 Renewal at Apple TV+

Severance is the most watched show in Apple TV+ history. During season two it surpassed the streamer’s previous record holder, the wildly popular Ted Lasso. What does a company do when they have a hit show like that? You don’t have to be really f***ing smart like Dylan G. to know the answer: you renew it for another season. That’s exactly what Apple has done following the show’s thrilling second season finale. Severance is officially coming back for season three and this renewal news is just what fans needed to hear.

#severance is renewed for Season 3.#PraiseKier and Tim Cook. film still #67Choreography & Merriment

Ben Stiller (@benstiller.redhour.com) 2025-03-21T12:23:39.829Z

Ben Stiller and Apple CEO Tim Cook both took to social media the morning after the debut of “Cold Harbor,” the show’s season two finale. They shared the most predictable news in the world to viewers still buzzing from the episode’s many revelations and questions. Severance is officially returning for a third season.

Considering how “Cold Harbor” ended, it’s a good thing they did this very obvious thing. Otherwise Innies and Outies alike would probably already be marching on Apple headquarters demanding answers. They might do that anyway if the show takes three years to deliver new episodes as it did between seasons one and two. But don’t worry about that. Stiller told Jason and Travis Kelce on their New Heights podcast that is “definitely not” the plan. Stiller said, “No, the plan is not [to take three years], and hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.”

Mark and Helly look scared and confused on SeveranceApple TV+

With the season three renewal now official we could hear the specifics behind those plans very soon. That doesn’t mean we expect to see the show very soon. It took them “five or six months” just to film Adam Scott’s opening season speed run. With a difficult shooting schedule like that, the absolute best case scenario for a season three debut is probably late 2026.

That is unless Apple has a bunch of severed employees who can help turn things around faster. Considering we don’t know everything both Lumon and Apple are ever up to, we probably can’t rule that out.
