BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Teases New Slayer Who Is More Like Willow
For a long time, Sarah Michelle Gellar has denied any desire to return to her role as “The Chosen One,” Buffy Anne Summers. But recently, Gellar said she might be interested, thanks to the success of legacy sequels like Dexter: Original Sin, in which she stars. Now, it’s official — Buffy the Vampire Slayer is coming back to stake the undead, in a new sequel series reboot from Hulu. Via Variety, we’ve learned that the pilot has an official order from Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman. The former Poker Face showrunners will write, show run, and executive produce. Oscar winner Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce the Buffy reboot. However, that’s likely just for the pilot episode.
Gellar continues to give updates about the Buffy reboot, saying that things are moving forward nicely. “We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated,” Gellar told People. “But it’s going to be a process, I think… to do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Sequel Series Will Focus on a New SlayerAlthough the series will still use the title Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Buffy sequel series will focus on a new Slayer. Gellar will appear in a recurring role rather than leading this reboot series. The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series finale in 2003 ended with girls all over the world activating their Slayer powers. So there will now be a generation of Slayers who might need Buffy Summers, the Prime Slayer, as their mentor. We can easily see that as the premise of this Buffy the Vampire slayer reboot sequel series. We’ll just have to wait and see to know for sure, though.

TVLine reports that this new Slayer will be more like Willow than Buffy. The publication reports, “That new Slayer, TVLine can exclusively report, seems to skew more Willow than Buffy. Per preliminary and subject-to-change intel, she’s a cerebral 16-year-old named Nova (though we’re fairly certain that name is just a placeholder) who is very smart and a bit of a loner….Her buddies, aka those who would’ve been considered the “Scoobies” in the original series, will include Hugo, an out-and-proud nerd who comes from money, and Gracie, a young expert on vampires who’s an acolyte of Gellar’s Buffy.”
Casting is currently underway.
But Sarah Michelle Gellar Will Absolutely Return as Buffy SummersAlthough she may not be the main character anymore, Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be the main character in the hearts of Buffy fans. And we’re so glad that Gellar will return as Buffy Summers in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot sequel series. We couldn’t have done it without her. Sarah Michelle Gellar recently spoke out on her Instagram about returning as the iconic character. Here message was both heartfelt and gorgeous, focusing on how right this reboot is for Gellar, Buffy fans, and the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a whole.
The moving text of Gellar’s response to the news of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s return is below.So….. you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me.
Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential “Buffy” revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as I’ve always done, I told Gail that I just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again. We’d always been aligned on that, but this time I heard something different in her voice. I eventually agreed to go (mainly just to meet Chloé) and our twenty minute coffee quickly turned into a four hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us.
While I didn’t agree to anything at that meeting, I did shock myself by agreeing to continue the conversation. These conversations did, in fact, continue over the next few years and eventually we added the incredible Nora and Lilla Zuckerman to our little tribe until ultimately, one day, we landed on an idea.
I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit “Buffy” and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.
I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love “Buffy” as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.
More About the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sequel RebootOne name you’ll notice not attached is that of original Buffy creator and showrunner Joss Whedon. Once upon a time, the notion of a Whedon-less Buffy series without its creative voice would have been blasphemous. But in the last few years, Whedon’s name has become toxic. Several of his former Buffy cast, as well as several Justice League cast members, have accused him of running an unpleasant set to say the least. Regardless, as the series creator, he’ll probably cash some form of check for the series even if he has no creative involvement anymore. Additionally, except for Sarah Michelle Gellar’s exciting return, we have no confirmation about other former cast members or writers coming on board for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot sequel series. But we expect a lot more news on this one in the months ahead.

Marvel Studios Announces AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Cast
In a sudden surprise, Marvel Studios took to Instagram Live to announce what appears to be the new MCU Avengers team and the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. For a long time, there has been a question of who exactly are the MCU’s current Avengers? And the answer is, we have no idea. But with two Avengers movies, Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday, coming up, we guess the MCU better figure out just who is in its Avengers Team ASAP and who else might be around to lend a hand. And it feels exactly like that’s what Marvel Studios is doing. Marvel Studios began the cryptic Instagram live with a chair for Chris Hemsworth, then one for Vanessa Kirby appeared, next a chair for Anthony Mackie surfaced, and the Avengers music played alongside it. That’s pretty indicative. Marvel’s Twitter account also shared that this cast would feature in Avengers: Doomsday specifically. And boy, did we receive a full cast list for Avengers: Doomsday today.
The Marvel Studios announcement for (what we assume are) the MCU’s new Avengers: Doomsday Avengers team and friends has now concluded, but you can watch it in full below. (The abridged or six-hour experience, if you’d like to recreate that for yourself.)

Live-Action SCOOBY DOO Origin Story Series Coming to Netflix
Pull out your Scooby Snacks and gas up the Mystery Machine, because Scooby-Doo is coming to Netflix. But it will not be a new animated series. The streamer has announced the group is getting its first ever live-action TV show. And it will serve as an origin story about how the beloved group first came together.

Netflix has confirmed rumors from last year and ordered a new live-action Scooby-Doo show. This “modern-reimagining” will explore how “everyone’s favorite mystery-solving gang, and their beloved dog, first teamed up to crack the haunting case that started it all.” The show comes from showrunners/writers/executive producers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner will also serve as executive producers.
The eight-episode season will feature younger versions of the iconic characters. Here’s the show’s official logline from Netflix:
A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

Berlanti explained why he’s so exciting about the show in Netflix’s press release. “One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cells. Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warners and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!”
This will mark the sixth time the legendary animated gang made the crossover to live-action. But it won’t even be the first time a live-action adaptation addressed how they met. While most fans remember the 2002 and 2004 movies starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lilliard, and Linda Cardellini, we got a live-action origin story in 2009’s Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins.
Needless to say, no one is going to worry about the Netflix show breaking established live-action canon. It would be a total mystery if anyone did.

Official New THE LAST OF US COFFEE Made With Real Cordyceps
HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us opened in an unlikely place. The series began in 1968 with an epidemiologist explaining why his greatest worry for mankind was a parasitic fungus that could turn humans into mindless puppets. His fears then came true in 2003 when a mutated form of (the very real) cordyceps fungus did exactly that. That’s what turns people in the fictional world into terrifying monsters. And now HBO and Four Sigmatic have decided the only way to make an authentic The Last of Us coffee is to make it with actual cordyceps.
That’s not a joke.

HBO and Four Sigmatic’s Original The Last Of Us – Organic High Caf Ground Coffee (which we first heard about at GameSpot) aims to add some fun(gus) to your morning cup of joe. This limited edition coffee consists of “lion’s mane, cordyceps, Vitamin B12 and coffee bean extract to increase mental focus and energy.”
Our first question is almost certainly the same one you have right now: “Wait. What?” And the obvious follow-up: “They put mushrooms in the coffee?”
They did. They really did. But Four Sigmatic says not to worry. They say that “despite the name, it doesn’t taste like mushrooms! Instead, it offers a smooth, rich flavor reminiscent of a classic medium roast coffee with subtle notes of caramel.”

They also want everyone to know you will NOT become a fungal zombie if you drink it. Here’s what the company says in its FAQ section under “Is Cordyceps Infectious:”
Not exactly—but The Last of Us wasn’t entirely wrong. In the wild, cordyceps mushrooms do infect insects. Luckily, our cordyceps are the functional kind, not the fictional kind. They’re 100% vegan, organically grown, and packed with energy, endurance, and stamina benefits. The only thing our coffee will infect you with is energy!
Okay. Okay. We’ll try it. To do that we can get a single bag for $14.
But if this is a huge ruse and we do become Clickers when we drink this we are going to be so freaking mad. Not about the zombie part. We just really love coffee and we doubt cordyceps will let us keep drinking it.

AHSOKA Season 2 Has Begun Filming
The first season of Ahsoka ended on a cliffhanger. Ezra Bridger returned to the known galaxy after hitching a ride on Grand Admiral Thrawn’s ship. He reunited with Hera Syndulla while Thrawn and the Great Mothers traveled to Dathomir. However, Sabine and Ahsoka stayed behind on Peridea with no obvious way to leave the far-flung planet and return home. Then there were the matters of Baylan Skoll exploring a mysterious connection to Mortis and Shin Hati searching for her own path among Peridea’s roving bandits. All that to say, a lot is up in the air. Happily, Dave Filoni is officially developing Ahsoka season two, which has now begun filming.

Lucasfilm shared the news of Ahsoka season two’s development in tandem with an announcement about a new upcoming Star Wars movie. The studio is making The Mandalorian & Grogu, a feature film going into production this year. Filoni will serve as executive producer on the movie, which Jon Favreau will direct. The company stated that The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate. That includes the announced films with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni at the helm. Lucasfilm said Filoni “is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2.”

We haven’t heard too much about Ahsoka season two since. But Ezra Bridger actor, Eman Esfandi, recently confirmed on Instagram that Ahsoka season two was officially in production. He reshared a post that said, “Congrats @emanesfandi on launching your podcast @keepersofthefire & kicking off ahsoka season 2.” So it seems like Ahsoka season two has happily kicked off.

— Star Wars Holocron 🔜 SWCJ (@sw_holocron) March 24, 2025
Ahsoka season two will presumably pick up where the story left off. Thrawn must have some interesting plans in mind with the Great Mothers. He has an army of zombie stormtroopers at his disposal! But perhaps most importantly, the Imperial Remnant is in chaos. They need a strategic mind like Thrawn’s to re-establish control over the galaxy.
The New Republic is also kind of in chaos. Season one of Ahsoka made it clear that bureaucracy is already weighing the burgeoning government down. It doesn’t seem like the new ruling force took the right lessons from pre-Galactic Empire times. While Hera and Ezra try to build a stronger New Republic, Sabine and Ahsoka have a lot to figure out. But hey, they have Huyang on their side, and that sassy droid is always willing to help.
Regardless of what happens, we look forward to seeing all our friends from Star Wars Rebels continue to thrive.

Matt Murdock Makes a Major Choice in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN
There’s one thing Daredevil: Born Again has not had a whole lot of so far, and that’s any actual Daredevil action. We’ve had a metric ton of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Attorney at Law. But no red-suited vigilante, except in the intense opening sequence of the very first episode. Well, that finally changes in episode six of Born Again. In this chapter, Matt finally gives into his literal inner demon and puts on the suit at last. But he definitely did so for a very good reason.
Matt Murdock Didn’t Wear the Daredevil Costume for 5 Episodes
Ever since the closing moments of Daredevil: Born Again’s first episode cold opener, Matt Murdock has officially left the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen behind him. When his partner and best friend Foggy Nelson died, he crossed a personal line, and tried to kill the assassin Bullseye. In the year since those brutal events, Matt has resisted putting on the costume and taking to the streets. He’s found himself in fights as Matt in episode two, and solved a crime (and won a case) using his enhanced abilities. But that’s it. He did not don those red horns on his head.
Episode 4 Shows Matt Trying Out His Daredevil Weapons Again, But He Doesn’t Wear the Costume Yet
At the end of episode 4, Matt goes to his secret compartment and takes out his billy clubs. He starts practicing using them on the roof of his apartment. However, he stops short of putting on any of his Daredevil masks (of which he has plenty). He even resists putting on the suit in the subsequent episode. But as the serial killer Muse becomes a threat to the safety of the city, Matt feels as if he has no choice. When teenager Angela del Toro goes missing while looking for clues to Muse’s identity, the twisted serial killer captures her. Matt knows he has no choice but to un-retire his Daredevil persona and save her.

After briefly struggling with the decision, He literally says “F*** it” and puts the red costume back on. He finds Muse’s creepy kill room adjacent to the subway tracks and then a good old-fashioned Daredevil season one brawl ensues. (Oh, how we really missed those.) Matt is a bit rusty, as ultimately he only fights Muse to a stalemate and the murderer gets away. But because of his actions as Daredevil, he’s able to save Angela del Toro’s life. We imagine the double whammy of having her uncle be a vigilante and a rescue from Daredevil will inspire her to become the new White Tiger at some point.
Of course, in episode one of Born Again, Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) warned Matt Murdock that should he ever take up the mantle of Daredevil again, there would be “consequences.” And most of Fisk’s entire platform in Born Again so far has been an anti-vigilante agenda. By simply putting on the costume again, he’s poking the bear. This means the inevitable Daredevil vs. Kingpin fight is coming, but how will that all play out now that Fisk is Mayor of New York? Hopefully, we’ll find out in the second half of Daredevil: Born Again season one.

The Mystery of Muse Begins to Unfold in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN
Daredevil: Born Again’s fifth episode took us temporarily out of the thick of all the mess in NYC. It was a tense yet comical romp that paired Matt Murdock with Kamala Khan’s father to survive a hostage situation. But now we are back to business in episode 6, which really focuses on Muse, a comic villain who made his MCU live-action debut in Daredevil: Born Again. And boy is this guy incredibly frightening.
We previously got a glimpse of him earlier this season when he kidnapped and started drawing blood from a random man. Well, it turns out he’s taking people to his weird lair near an abandoned train station, draining their blood, and using it to paint murals that mock and antagonize Wilson Fisk. That’s certainly one disturbing way to create art.

In this episode, Hector’s niece Angela searches for more answers about her uncle’s potential killer. She comes to Matt first, who tells her that they must let the police handle it. Angela takes matters into her own hands, finding out that there are kidnappings/bad things happening at a particular location. Muse gets his hands on her and she’s unconscious as he begins to crudely drain blood from her body. Hector’s wife soon calls Matt, upset that Angela isn’t home yet, and he fears she’s in the clutches of this mysterious killer. With some intel from Cherry, Matt Murdock decides to go and rescue Angela from Muse.
Muse’s lair is quite strange, with drawings all over the place. It’s clear he hates Fisk and is also rather anti-establishment in general, but not in a cool way. Muse and Daredevil battle it out in a pretty even matchup before Daredevil gets the upper hand. He has the choice to potentially kill Muse but he stops so he can try to save Angela’s life. Muse gets away and Daredevil is now back in effect. We don’t know who is behind Muse’s chilling mask but perhaps those answers will come to the light this season.

Fisk doesn’t want Muse, Daredevil, or anyone wearing a mask on the street, as evidenced by his newly-formed anti-vigilante task force. Things are heating up and we will have to see who Muse is, what he ultimately wants, and how Daredevil will stop him.

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Makes a MS. MARVEL Connection
Matt Murdock may be a skilled fighter and vigilante, but he’s still a regular dude who needs money. His firm is not making a ton of cash and, well, Matt needs a loan. So, like the average Joe, he heads to the bank in hopes of getting an approval. Matt’s trip to NY Mutual in Daredevil: Born Again’s fifth episode leads to a fun Ms. Marvel crossover to further tie his journey into the MCU.
When Matt arrives at the bank, he speaks to its Assistant Manager, who happens to be Kamala Khan’s father Yusuf Khan. This wasn’t too shocking for anyone who watched trailers of the series considering he shows up in at least one of them. Kamala’s dad is not too keen on giving Matt’s firm the load and, in the midst of a conversation with him, he answers a phone call from his daughter. She’s visiting friends in Los Angeles and having a great time, which we love for her. I especially like the mug on his desk that says “World’s Okayest Dad,” even though he’s beyond an average father. Yusuf mentions that he lives in Jersey City, where Ms. Marvel is their hero. Hilariously, Matt doesn’t know anything about Ms. Marvel.
RELATED ARTICLE
The Best Pop Culture References in MS. MARVELMatt decides to leave in disappointed yet decent spirits but quickly comes back when he hears Luca’s crew invade the bank. They are locked, loaded, and holding several hostages, including Yusuf Khan. Because the branch manager is out of the office, Yusuf becomes the target to open up the vault in hopes of retrieving a really expensive diamond. Matt comes back and pretends to be a chill dude who accidentally wandered in, so he is now a hostage as well. Using his listening skills, he works out the plan.
But one big problem is that Yusuf has no clue how to open the vault despite saying he does out of fear. Matt tells him to keep lying and stall as much as he can. Matt is able to get one robber alone (gotta love the old bathroom excuse) and subdue him. He makes it downstairs just in time to save Yusuf, who is terrified and no longer able to delay admitting he cannot open the vault. He watches in shock as Matt leans into the vault and is able to open it and retrieve the diamond.

After some trickery, a decoy and collaborator of the crew discovers that the diamond in their pocket is just a butterscotch candy from Yusuf’s desk. Matt later comes in to check up on Yusuf, who invites him to dinner in New Jersey. We don’t know if Matt will take him up on his offer nor if Yusuf suspects that Matt is a vigilante. (Surely he must think so, considering his daughter is also fighting crime on the streets.) But we do know that he returns the diamond in Yusuf’s butterscotch bowl.
It’s a fun little break in the midst of so much heartbreak and seriousness in this series. Kamala Khan’s dad Yusuf is a delight and it is nice to see a Ms. Marvel and Daredevil crossover. At the end of The Marvels, Kamala and Kate Bishop began forming a team, which means the Young Avengers are surely on the way. It is possible that we will see them fighting alongside Daredevil at some point. Or, maybe we will get Matt Murdock and Kamala Khan at dinner. Only time will tell.

Kaitlyn Dever Brings a Physical and ‘Gripping’ Abby to THE LAST OF US Season 2
If there’s one character that fans of The Last of Us games are eager to see come to HBO’s live-action series in season two, it’s Abby. Game players will, of course, know the very special role that Abby has to play in The Last of Us franchise. But if you don’t know, don’t go spoil yourselves! And we won’t spoil you. In celebration of The Last of Us season two, the cast and creators of the series held a special press conference, and, of course, the topic of Abby came up. Kaitlyn Dever, who will play Abby in The Last of Us season two, offered some insights, and perhaps some teases into playing the role. Showrunners, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann also chimed in on what we can expect from this infamous character.
Speaking to Dever and the audience, Mazin and Druckmann shared about Dever’s performance: “Kaitlyn did things that I’m not sure you should have done. I don’t know how you did them. When we meet new performers, we’re like, we knew her obviously as an actor and what she could do, but then you meet the person, and well, what can you actually do? What are you comfortable with? And Kaitlyn just would never say no. And it was amazing. And when you see how physical, just how physically tremendous her performance is. It’s insane. But it’s just like every single one of these guys, we can’t wait for you to see what they do and how they interact with each other. It’s amazing.”

Meanwhile, Dever, who was at one point considered for the role of Ellie in a live-action The Last of Us movie, shared that she felt her place as Abby was fated.
She noted, “I loved what Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey did in this first season. It was just pure magic. It was so wonderful and I, I was a fan of the game. It was a real bonding moment for me and my dad playing it together. And to have it come back around, but 10 plus years later, it really felt like something I had always thought about. I just admired this story and what you did, and when it came back around, it felt surreal because it really felt like, ‘oh, well, things that are meant to be in your life will happen if they’re supposed to.’ And it just felt right. Abby felt right. It was very cool.”

Although everything below has been officially shared, we’re curtaining it off, just in case you don’t want any speculation or spoilers for Abby’s journey on The Last of Season 2 in your life.

When asked to describe The Last of Us season two as whole, Kaitlyn Dever used a very interesting word to describe the season as a whole. “Gripping,” Dever offered, drawing the word out. Now is that “gripping” like “thrilling” or “gripping” like… Abby is gripping something heavy in her hand during? Gulp! Okay, but seriously, no more spoilers, not even vague ones.

The Last of Us season two premieres on Sunday, April 13.
