YELLOWJACKETS Brings Back a Major Character for a Truly Disturbing Scene (Or Three)

Yellowjackets’ third episode of season three takes us on a trip in more ways than one. There is a lot that goes down in both timelines, from Shauna losing it on Lottie for good reason to a wild hunt during the Wilderness times. One thing that happened in this Yellowjackets season three episode that didn’t shock too many of us, considering we saw her in the Yellowjackets trailer, was the return of Ghost Jackie for a cameo. It’s not the first time she’s visited from the dead, but this is by far the strangest one. Ghost Jackie also makes a return appearance in episodes four and eight of season three, this time in the present timelines.

In the Wilderness timeline, Coach Ben makes the (probably not good) decision to let Mari go after they have some seriously cringe and hilarious moments. She goes back to the girls’ camp and Shauna pressures her into telling the truth about Ben’s whereabouts. So, this leads everyone on a hunt for Coach Ben. While in the tunnels of the cave, Shauna, Akilah, and Van end up having a series of trippy ass dreams. Ben claims that there is some kind of gas that is permeating the air and causing the dreams and hallucinations. This could be true to some degree, but considering all the girls are hearing howling noises, it is possible that they are 1) simply losing their sanity after enduring so many things or 2) consuming herbs and such that are causing some weird trips. Who really knows at this point?

Anyway, the three have their separate dreams, which include Shauna trying to swim to an imagined version of her son, Van being in a cabin and then consumed by fire in an airplane chair, and Akilah talking to a weird llama. It seems the Wilderness will get what it wants… whatever that truly means. As the third episode of Yellowjackets season three continues, the three of them are in a dream together in a classroom where Lottie is the teacher/leader and Ghost Jackie returns for a cameo. It is not clear exactly whose dream it is, and it is not impossible that they are having a shared experience, but it seems more likely to be Shauna’s dream, considering the Jackieness of it all.

YELLOWJACKETS Brings Back a Major Character for a Truly Disturbing Scene (Or Two)_1Kailey Schwerman/Paramount+ with SHOWTIMEWhat Does Ghost Jackie Want with Shauna, Akilah, and Van?

All three of the Yellowjackets are dressed in their soccer uniforms and Ghost Jackie is hitting a slap bracelet on her arm. They pass the slap bracelet around among the three of them at Jackie’s behest and try to use it. Akilah is able to do it easily and Van gets a cut on her arm and a warning that she “shouldn’t play with dangerous things” from Lottie. But then Ghost Jackie slaps it around Shauna’s neck. She begins to bleed out, and Akilah tries to help her but cannot.

Lottie says they will all die if Akilah doesn’t save Shauna. We assume this is some sort of foreshadowing that Akilah will save Shauna’s life for real at some critical moment in Yellowjackets season three or beyond. They all wake up to see Coach Ben, who says there is gas somewhere that is poisonous. Tai and a shotgun wielding Natalie show up and say he is coming with them.

What Does the Ghost Jackie Dream Mean in Yellowjackets

It is hard to interpret exactly what the dream with Ghost Jackie means in Yellowjackets season three. Elements appeared in the dream that didn’t even have anything to do with those three girls. What was up with the Man With No Eyes, whom Tai often sees, strolling the hallways? Saying that there is only one dream speaks to their interconnectedness as a group of people trying to survive the Wilderness, which is calling to them all at this point. It makes sense for Shauna to see Jackie return in her Yellowjackets wilderness dream and for her to be the one to attempt to kill her after she indirectly caused Jackie’s demise. There’s certainly a lot of guilt on her end for good reason.

YELLOWJACKETS Brings Back a Major Character for a Truly Disturbing Scene (Or Two)_2Kailey Schwerman/Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

The various reactions to the slap bracelet may also be indicators of the girls’ status with the Wilderness in Yellowjackets, which Jackie is now forever a part of spiritually. If Shauna doesn’t give in and give It what It wants, she will certainly die. Akilah is in tune, especially considering her connection to flora and fauna. Van is mostly there, but there are hints that she has done (or will do something) to flirt with danger. Van has evaded a few literally fiery situations. So her connection to that dangerous element is much like Tai’s to the wolf. Akilah and Van are far more willing to engage and try, while Shauna is not. It is indeed a weird dream that may be giving us clever clues for the remainder of the season.

Ghost Jackie and Ella Purnell Return to Cameo Again in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 4Yellowjackets season three episode four recap Jackie in the freezer (1)Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

Even though Jackie is dead on Yellowjackets, Ella Purnell seems to be around quite a bit—Ghost Jackie returns once again to cameo in episode four of Yellowjackets season three. This time, Jackie is haunting Adult Shauna in the present-day timeline. In episode four, someone has locked Shauna in a freezer, ostensibly angling to murder her. Ghost Jackie appears in a cameo scene to tease out all of Shauna’s greatest fears. She taunts in her frozen, deathly form, “Remember what Jeff said about karma? Maybe this is exactly how it was always going to end for you: frozen and left for dead. Just like me. Someone’s trying to hurt you, Shauna, for what you did. Not just in the wilderness, but for what you did when you got back.”

These are some very interesting words from Ghost Jackie and though this cameo is less symbolic than the last, it is quite revealing. What does Jackie mean when she implies that Shauna did some terrible things when she got back. Did Shauna try to perpetuate the Wilderness rituals even after the team’s return? We can’t know for sure just yet. But Ghost Jackie isn’t done talking in her cameo scene, and we’re glad because Ella Purnell and Melanie Lynskey are incredible scene partners.

“Look at you now,” Ghost Jackie tosses out derisively, “Someone’s fucking with you, and you’re just hurling accusations left and right. You’re not even doing anything about it, you’re all talk… I’m the most interesting thing about you. After I died, did you finally turn into the person you always wanted to be, or did you become this?” Jackie is always great at cutting right into the heart of Shauna’s insecurities and even though Shauna is an adult and Jackie is a ghost, her tongue is as sharp as ever.

“It’s okay, you’ll be warm soon.” Ghost Jackie gloats, implying Shauna doesn’t have what it takes to survive. And that’s curtains for Ella Purnell in Yellowjackets season three, episode four.

The latest ghost Jackie cameo by Ella Purnell comes in episode eight of Yellowjackets season three. Shauna has a dream that she is working in a grocery store, and Jackie appears to taunt her about her lack of direction in life. The groceries become human limbs, and moths begin to attack as the dream continues. Jackie calls Shauna “Shipman,” and Shauna protests, but Jackie tells her she never did in real life. She also accuses Shauna of killing her.

Ultimately, this dream seems to represent Shauna’s fear of never being anyone in her life. She dreams she is stuck in a dead-end job, haunted by her cannibalism and poor choices, and taunted by Jackie who never loved her as much as she should have. But true to life, Shauna isn’t doing anything but being mad at her fate and at others. “You should have known better,” Ella Purnell’s Jackie warns ominously in her Yellowjackets cameo, and the dream fades. Interestingly, both past and present Shuana seem to have had a version of this interaction with Jackie.

Will There Be More Ghost Jackie on the Horizon?

We hope this won’t be Ghost Jackie’s last cameo on Yellowjackets season three. If there’s one actor we love seeing back on our screens, it’s Ella Purnell. It seems Jackie will even play a role in the present timeline, considering Lottie gave her necklace to Callie before Shauna rightfully took it away and kicked Lottie out of her house. Let’s see how it all goes down in future episodes.

Artist Recreates Iconic BEETLEJUICE Characters as Creepy Life-Size Puppets

Few films have as much instantly recognizable imagery as Tim Burton’s original Beetlejuice. However, one of the most memorable images from the original 1988 film involves the usually normal-looking ghosts, Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin). In one infamous scene, a spell tries to revive the Maitlands, but their bodies start decomposing instantly. Those creepy versions of the couple are actually legit terrifying. Now, artist and designer Brandon Hardy has created screen-accurate life-size puppet replicas of the decomposing Maitlands, and shared a video of just how he brought them to life. You can watch the full video right here:

These two puppets of the Maitlands are incredibly true to the versions we see in the classic film. Hardy overlooked no detail, from the couple’s wedding outfits, to the looks of their hair, skin, and eyes. The original Beetlejuice had a metric ton of memorable characters, especially among the recently deceased. To this day, you can hardly go to a Halloween party or cosplay convention and not see a Miss Argentina, or the Magician’s Assistant. Not to mention, the titular “Ghost with the Most” himself. But even among so many iconic characters in Beetlejuice, the decomposing Maitlands still stand out.

Hardy has also made life-size puppets of Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice himself, and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. Brandon Hardy’s spooky creations have featured on Broadway, as well as on television. During quarantine back in 2020, he even made a homemade version of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. He also made a 13-foot-tall puppet of Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Hardy has a tutorial series on how to make a lot of these spooky Beetlejuice puppets and other creations, which he’s named Out of the Ether. Adam Scott’s Real Injury Made It Into SEVERANCE Season 2 Finale Fight

Lumon’s Mr. Drummond was a truly awful man. His many sins against humanity ranged from being a hypocrite over vocabulary to sacrificing goats and humans for his company. But he was kind enough to give us all a gift shortly before he died. He showed us he was entirely full of crap. The man who claimed to follow Kier Eagan’s nine principles certainly didn’t conquer his Four Tempers when Mark S. tried breaking getting to the Testing Floor elevator. In that moment Drummond unleashed malice, brutally attacking the marcodata refiner. It was a vicious and shocking fight even for Severance. It was also legitimately painful for Adam Scott. He really did bang his head on a wall while filming.

And we all got to see how, because director Ben Stiller put it in the show.

While speaking to GQ (in an interview we first heard about at Slashfilm), Scott revealed what happened to him during his innie character’s violent fight in Severance‘s season 2 finale. This is what he said about the choreographed sequence and the challenges of filming it in a narrow hallway:

I mean, the truly dangerous stuff that requires skill was stunts, and they were incredible. I did hit my head on a wall at one point. Afterwards, I was like, “Wait, wait, wait,” because I got slammed into the wall. I was supposed to bring my arm up—we practiced it over and over again—but I just got caught on my suit. [We] called a doctor and all that stuff. Ben [Stiller] was making sure I’m OK, then he came up to me a little later and he goes, [whispers] “By the way, so good,” so it’s in the show.

Nice job, everyone. Well, except that suit. We’re not happy Adam Scott was injured. We’re glad everyone reacted appropriately and then, since it already happened, turned an accident into a great piece of film making.

But hopefully that never happens again. With Drummond dead there’s a good chance it won’t.

YELLOWJACKETS Season 3 Reveals Who Sent That Tape to Shauna

Yellowjackets season three is finally here and new mysteries already await us in its first two episodes. We caught back up with the crew in both 2021 and the wilderness in Spring 1997. Division is brewing among the teen survivors, with Shauna reeling over the loss of her child while the others are praising the wilderness for a new season. In the present, Shauna is processing Natalie’s death and hoping that her poor kid is not forever traumatized nor overly influenced by Lottie. Little does Shauna know that a whole new situation is brewing in her home in Yellowjackets season three after a mystery person left an envelope on her doorstep, which Callie found and is keeping a secret along with the tape inside of it.

What Is in the Mystery Envelope Left for Shauna in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 1?

At the end of Yellowjackets season three, episode one, Callie is home alone (or so she thinks) after getting in trouble at school for pouring animal guts on a group of mean girls. (She’s certainly got her mother’s spunky and vengeful spirit.) She hears a noise at the door and discovers that someone left a brown envelope on the porch. The front simply says “Shauna Shipman,” along with that weird symbol from the wilderness in place of a return address.

It’s interesting that whoever left the note decided to use her maiden name instead of Sadecki, her married name. But what’s inside the mysterious Yellowjacketss season three envelope? Well, we get to see that there’s a small audio tape inside, which Callie pockets before her dad sneaks up on her and tells her to go to bed. But we do not get to see or hear what is on the tape.

RELATED ARTICLE

What Is YELLOWJACKETS’ Mysterious Symbol and What Does It Mean?

Episode two of Yellowjackets doesn’t dive into the tape and envelope anymore after that. Callie briefly looks at the mystery tape before Lottie, who is now out of psychiatric hold and temporarily staying with Shauna’s family, enters the room. We never see Callie listen to it in the first episodes of Yellowjackets season three, nor does she tell anyone about the envelope. However, she does attempt to pressure Lottie into telling her about what happened in the wilderness. Lottie mostly evades her questioning, but they seem to bond over a ridiculous TV show by the time Shauna and Jeff get home.

We Finally Learn More About the Tape in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 6

In Yellowjackets season three, episode six, Callie finally reveals that tape to Shauna. We learn that it’s no normal tape, it’s an old kind of tape called a DAT tape, which stands for a Digital Audio Tape. This kind of tape was made in 1987. Handily, Van is into nostalgia and vintage tech and has a DAT-player. She shares that garage bands and hunters tend to use them. And then has another thought which alarms her.

Shauna, Tai, and Van listen to the tape. But what exactly is on this mystery Yellowjackets tape? We only get to hear snatches of it so far. The mysterious tape Shauna receives begins with a woman’s voice, and she records, “Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3, Oh my god, what is this.” She sounds a little frightened. Yellowjackets then cuts to the end of the tape. There we hear howling and screeching, presumably, of the girls in the wilderness. And the woman’s voice returns to yell, “Nooooo!” quite emphatically. Did she die? Did she get hurt? Did she see something awful?

Tai, Van, and Shauna seem shaken by what they hear recorded. Van says, “The only people that even know about this are either us or dead.” And Shauna says the tape is clearly a threat. But from who or how so is info that we didn’t get to find out.

We Find Out More About What Is on the Tape in Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 7

In episode 7, Shauna finally holes up in a cheap hotel bathroom and listens to the tape. It’s a recording that Hannah, the woman who appeared in the woods alongside her partner and their travel guide, had going on during the encounter we saw at the beginning of the episode. The thud of the axe to her guy’s head and Shauna yelling “Holy Shit!” are hard for Shauna to hear, if she even remembers that moment clearly. She fast forwards to hear Hannah recording a message for her daughter, which strikes Shauna because the child could 1) still be alive and 2) be the person who sent that tape. Shauna even looks Hannah up and scrolls through her obituary, which probably means that the group killed her in the Wilderness.

Shauna holds a tape player in yellowjackets Paramount+/SHOWTIME

Shauna contacts Van, Tai, and, well, Misty comes along and they listen to the tape together while driving to Virginia, which is where the daughter lives. Shauna doesn’t know it but Callie retrieved the deleted message from her phone that she snuck into Shauna’s person previously. So now Callie is even more suspicious that her mom and the others really did some terrible things in the Wilderness and that Shauna is perhaps a bad person. She’s absolutely right on all fronts.

Hilary Swank Is Melissa and She Sent That Tape to Shauna in Yellowjackets Season 3

In episode eight, we finally get an answer to about who sent the tape. After tracking down Hannah’s daughter Alex in Virginia, Shauna is shocked to discover that Melissa, played by Hilary Swank, is alive. The group previously believed that she died by suicide after coming home from the Wilderness. Not only is Melissa alive, she’s married to Hannah’s daughter and is the one who sent the tape.

Who Does Hilary Swank Play on YELLOWJACKETS?

Melissa got the tape from Hannah in the Wilderness to give to her daughter, but she obviously couldn’t bring herself to do it. She kept it to as blackmail/a way to frame other survivors if they came looking for her for whatever reason. It’s a weird thought process considering that the tape also incriminates her too.

Yellowjackets season 3 first look image adult shaunaKailey Schwerman/Paramount+ with Showtime

Melissa said she kept it locked away for years and decided to send it to Shauna after finding out about Natalie’s death. She thought all the sacrificing weirdness was starting again and sent Shauna the tape to tell her that it is okay to let all of the past go. Of course, Shauna never got the letter, only the tape from Callie. Despite Melissa denying any involvement in the weird things happening around Shauna and Lottie’s death, Shauna doesn’t believe any of it. She attacks Melissa at the end of the episode and bites off a piece of her arm.

The mystery of the tape is solved and now we have to see what price Melissa will pay for sending it. Sometimes, it is better to just keep things to yourself.

STRANGER THINGS: THE FIRST SHADOW Broadway Production Drops First Look Images

Stranger Things: The First Shadow is finally hitting the Broadway stage. This prequel takes us back to Hawkins in 1959 when the Creel family came to town. Henry goes to school alongside a young Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper. But, when crimes start to hit the town, Henry wonders if he has a connection to the terrible things happening around him. Stranger Things: The First Shadow found success on London’s West End and, if these images are any indication, it will look just as good on Broadway.

Performances begin on March 28 and tickets are currently on sale for fans to enjoy this world. It’s a great way to expand out this world and get a taste of Hawkins again while waiting for Stranger Things 5 to arrive soon. “The first time we saw the play, we were blown away,” says creator Ross Duffer. “They pulled everything off, and then some. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of our lives,” adds Matt Duffer.

THE WOMAN IN THE YARD Delivers Barren Entertainment (Review)

The Woman in the Yard caught horror fans attention with its scary trailers and the titular figure looming in a family’s yard. Who is this specter? What does she want with this grieving group? Why is today the day? Those were questions that fans wanted answers to. The film indeed takes on themes of identity, loneliness, and helplessness; however, it pursues them in a heavy-handed manner that sometimes feels forced.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Sam Stefanak, the horror follows Ramona, played by Danielle Deadwyler. After losing her husband David (Russell Hornsby), Ramona struggles with the loss and the injury she sustained in the same accident. In addition, she struggles to raise her two kids, which include her teenage son Taylor (Peyton Jackson), and her adorable young daughter Annie (Estella Kahiha). One day, a mysterious woman all in black (Okwui Okpokwasili) with a veil over her face appears seated in her yard. Needless to say, their day is about to go from bad to much worse.

The Woman in the Yard has scary moments but they feel more dramatic than terrifying. In terms of the aforementioned themes, there’s an appreciation for this film exploring grief and isolation through from Black mother’s experience. Tackling the loss of self, in particular, makes The Woman in the Yard unique; however, it does not deliver thanks to a shoddy script and some flat cast performances among much stronger ones.

Editor’s Note: There will be some minor spoilers to discuss issues with the film.

The Woman in the Yard Authentically Shows How the Self Vanishes in Traditional Roles

Few films honestly confront a parent’s resentment and suffering. Even fewer tackle it from a Black mother’s perspective in a way that builds sympathy and understanding. Even now, society still considers it awful not to want kids and feel anything other than grateful when you have them. However, with motherhood, the self can often disappear, similar to romantic relationships where one loses themself in their partner. A person’s existence outside of their relation to others can begin to feel intangible, and that can usher in anger as well as depression. In this film, Ramona’s resentment as she lives to fulfill everyone else while feeling empty is authentic and a highlight.

Some Performances Were Great While Others Were… Not So Great

As Ramona, Danielle Deadwyler is inescapably at the top of her game. Whether it’s a powerhouse production blending the supernatural, generational love, and trauma like The Piano Lesson, or something promising that fails to stick the execution like The Woman in the Yard, she always puts her whole self into a role. She brings Ramona’s emotions as a grieving, lost, frustrated, and loving woman to screen with expertise. Even when parts of the film drag or feel cluttered, it’s impossible not to connect with her. Russell Hornsby is also wonderful in his few scenes as Ramona’s husband. Through a few brief moments, we see their magic as a couple.

THE WOMAN IN THE YARD Delivers Barren Entertainment (Review)_1Universal Pictures

Peyton Jackson mostly works as her teen son, who also feels sympathy and resentment. After all, he’s playing the role of a parent to his little sister. Estella Kahiha is as sweet as Annie, but she lacks distinction. It’s impossible to tell when she feels differing emotions because they all translate the same on her face. Finally, Okwui Okpokwasili as the film’s antagonist delivers such an imposing regality that it feels more intimidating than terrifying. This perhaps would have read differently with a different script.

All Hail the Haunting Woman Draped in a Black Dress

Akin to The Babadook, The Woman in the Yard‘s primary confrontation comes as an outward manifestation representing the internal turmoil. It’s something inescapable because it’s an aspect of Ramona. The arrival of the woman pushes Ramona further into tunnel vision, specifically a focused belief that she’s more of a hindrance to her children. While this part works, the shift in the latter half of The Woman in the Yard does not feel earned based on the journey to get to the conclusion.

The Woman in the Yard‘s Stilted Screenplay Does Not Flesh Out Characters Nor Conflict

The screenplay is like an essay without enough transitional phrases. It’s impossible to see how it gets from one place to the next. Now, while that can sometimes work in horror, creating disorientation for the audience, there must be a purpose behind it. Here, there is none. For example, there’s one scene where Ramona thinks she’s stabbing someone, but it’s a pillow. One of her kids sees this strange behavior. But, instead of a questioning conversation or an indifference to the action, the film simply goes to the next scene.

Rather than driving home whether this type of thing is the norm for these characters, it indicates the writer had no clue how to approach it and opted not to. It feels incomplete because the writer didn’t know how to connect the dots. Exploring certain subjects, including mental crisis, requires a nuance and experience that is not present. The writer of the screenplay is not a Black woman and it shows.

Tackling a loss of identity is already challenging enough, and the film showed promise there. However, it then switches to much darker and dangerous emotions. But it lacks the proper setup for it. The film might have redeemed itself had it removed the suicidal ideation part entirely and fully leaned into a mother tired of being the “mother.” If the film ended with the mysterious woman snatching a specific person, then the story would not be perfect, but it would be better. Instead, it downgrades through strange scenes to capture Ramona’s conflict with herself. This goes against the entirety of what The Woman in the Yard made her primary issues and fears. The shocking ending therefore feels unearned and insulting to audiences.

The Woman in the Yard had a promising idea lost in a script that could not follow through. Towards the climax, the rushed quality of scenes from the yard to the bedroom to the attic fight lacked suspense. There was little worry because too much was jammed together. Even less of it makes sense because the story is so bent on surprising audiences that it forgets there must be a secure foundation for the surprise. This film squanders a stellar actress and idea on hollow, made-for-tv entertainment.

The Woman in the Yard is now in theaters.

The name of Yellowjackets season three’s eighth episode, “A Normal, Boring Life,” is a strange one for this show. Obviously, anyone who survived the Wilderness and many of the people closest to them have anything but that. But one Yellowjackets survivor did manage to achieve that, albeit with a disturbing twist, without the others knowing… until now. In this episode, we finally find out that Hilary Swank is playing Melissa on Yellowjackets. No, Melissa is not dead and her post-Wilderness story is nuts.

How Is Hilary Swank’s Character Melissa Actually Alive in Yellowjackets

Shauna’s solo journey to find Heather’s daughter Alex, whom she’s sure sent her that tape, ends at a quiet house in Virginia. She breaks inside and hides in a pantry with her knife, watching Alex and her child in the kitchen. Shauna is visibly shocked when she sees Alex’s wife Kelly, who is rocking a backwards hat and looking kinda familiar. After Alex and the kid leave, she lets Shauna know that she’s very aware of her presence. Shauna comes out and calls her Melissa. Gasp!

Previously, the crew said both Melissa and Gen were dead. We find out in this episode that they believed Melissa died by suicide after returning from the Wilderness. Instead, Melissa faked her death and made a new life for herself as Kelly. That seems pretty reasonable considering all of the stuff that went down in the woods. I wouldn’t want Shauna or any of my other former teammates knowing that I was alive either. However, she goes about it in the most wrong way possible.

Why Did Melissa Send the Tape to Shauna?

Melissa admits that Hannah gave her the tape to give to her daughter if she got back home, but she never did that. Instead, Melissa married Hannah’s daughter, who obviously doesn’t know the truth about her. They apparently spent years talking to each other before Melissa says she fell in love with her. Yikes. Melissa also admits that when they got back home, she was no longer “one of them” and Shauna scared her. That’s a valid fear.

YELLOWJACKETS Season 3 Reveals What Is on the Mystery Tape Shauna Recieved

Melissa says she has a good life, goes to church, and is basically trying to be normal. Shauna does not care and wants to know why Melissa is messing with her. I also want to know why, Shauna. If they thought she was dead, why in the hell would she reach out in any sort of way? Just stay fake dead for Christ’s sake!

Well, Melissa claims she kept the tape locked in a box to use for leverage in case any of the other survivors came looking for her. She thought that everyone joined Lottie’s cult and was starting to make sacrifices to appease It. She knows that Natalie died there and that made her feel haunted. So, after Nat’s funeral, she left the tape and a note to Shauna about letting it all go.

Shauna doesn’t buy it because, well, there’s no evidence of a letter. She thinks that Melissa has been messing with her and trying to kill her. However, Melissa genuinely says she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Shauna says the only way to be sure that no one will spill your secrets is to make sure you’re the last one standing. Hilary Swank and Melanie Lynskey’s onscreen chemistry and entire conversation makes me curious about what happened between Shauna and Melissa after coming home.

Shauna Attacks Melissa and Tries to Make Her Eat Flesh

Melissa tries to get Shauna to be logical about all the weird things going on. She calls Shauna out for stirring up drama to feel alive and wanting everyone to be just as miserable as she is. Bingo. Melissa attempts to take Shauna’s knife and they get into a scuffle. Shauna gets the upper hands and bites a chunk of flesh from Melissa’s arm. She dangles it over her, trying to make her eat it. Yep, Shauna has gone full feral.

Will Hilary Swank Return as Melissa in Yellowjackets

Well, she has to return for at least one more episode. We have to see how this bloody cliffhanger ends. It’s possible that Shauna will kill Melissa in her own home. Or she could kidnap her and hold her hostage for whatever reason. Either way, Melissa getting in contact with Shauna is one of the dumbest decisions anyone on this show has ever made. She should’ve just kept living her normal, boring life.

DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 1, Episode 6 Recap, New Revelations from “Excessive Force”

In episode six of Daredevil: Born Again, after waiting five whole episodes, Matt Murdock puts on the Daredevil costume again at long last. And he has very good reason to do so. Here’s what happened in the sixth episode of Born Again, “Excessive Force.”

The Serial Killer/Artist Muse Takes Another VictimThe serial killer Muse takes another victim in Daredevil: Born Again.Marvel Television

We open with more BB Reports, with candid interviews with a New York graffiti artist, who talks about getting a bad rap in the wake of Muse’s art all over the city’s buildings. Another guy talks about how a friend of his caught a new vigilante saving people using a sword, earning him the nickname “the Swordsman.” Marvel Comics fans may know that back in the ‘70s, there was an Avenger named the Swordsman, who actually married Guardians of the Galaxy’s Mantis. (Don’t hold your breath for that to happen in the MCU.) More on him later. Near a rundown part of the docks, a sanitation worker finds the body of a young man with his eyes gouged out, with blood dripping out of each socket, as if painted on. The latest “masterpiece” from the graffiti artist/masked serial killer called Muse.

Matt Murdock, Still a Good Catholic BoyMatt Murdock (Charlie Cox) holds the funeral card of his friend Foggy Nelson.Marvel Television

In his apartment, Matt prays while holding Foggy’s funeral card, dwelling on his recent losses. Not only is he thinking of Foggy, but also Hector Ayala. He also thinks about how good it felt to put on a mask and kick some bad guy ass, and you can’t help but wonder if he’s really asking God’s help in keeping his promise to not return to being Daredevil. Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) seems genuinely surprised Matt still prays, and he tells her that while he’s given it up before, he always comes back to his Catholic faith. She tells him she’s working on a new book, exploring the psychology of vigilantes. She tries to get Matt’s insights on it, as he knows the Punisher and Daredevil. (One of those he knows extremely well.) For obvious reasons, Matt doesn’t seem too keen on the whole thing.

Mayor Fisk’s Criminal Past Keeps Coming Back to Bite HimDAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 1, Episode 6 Recap, New Revelations from “Excessive Force”_1Marvel Television

At the mayor’s office, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) has an “unscheduled visitor,” and it’s Luca (Patrick Murney), head of one of the five families. He isn’t happy having to pay $1.8 million to a rival mafia family, especially as he never got the diamond from the bank robbery in the previous episode. All of this is to pay restitution for the killing at Red Hook, and Fisk reminds him he must follow orders. Luca tells Fisk he can “shove that 1.8 up his ass.” Fisk informs him that 1.8 has now turned into 2.8 million. The 1.8 goes to fellow mafia boss Victor, and the rest goes to him directly. Luca spits out “You’re out of the game, old man. Stay out of it.” This clearly gets very under Wilson’s skin big time, and he’s ready to pop. The mayor is giving way to the mob boss inside of him.

The next morning, a New York City sanitation worker who has been tasked with getting rid of Muse’s various murals around the city, reveals that after a chemical analysis, he discovered that the paint was so stubborn to come off because it’s made partially from human blood. Fisk now realizes there’s a serial killer at large, and he has to be the one to take care of it. He adamantly doesn’t want the police to reveal there’s a killer on the loose, mainly because it makes him look bad. Even though alerting the public could literally save lives. Once again, Fisk is only thinking of himself and how he looks.

White Tiger’s Niece Calls Matt Out (And She’s Right)Angela del Toro visits Matt Murdock and seeks his help in Daredevil: Born Again.Marvel Television

At Murdock & McDuffie, Hector Ayala’s niece Angela (Camila Rodriguez) comes to see Matt. Angela informs Matt that her uncle was investigating missing people, and died before he could find them. She tells Matt someone needs to finish her uncle’s investigation. She’s pieced together that the missing vanished near the old Q Line, which was shut down years earlier. Matt says he’s just a lawyer, she needs to go to the police for help. Angela reminds him that cops killed her uncle, and she’s never going to them for help. When Matt asks “What do you want me to do about it?” Angela retorts with “How about literally anything?” She leaves Matt’s office, realizing she’s on her own. This is one more punch in the gut for Matt, who knows that as Daredevil, he absolutely can do something about it, but has chosen not to.

Muse Takes Two More Victims

Police Chief Gallo informs Mayor Fisk that the DNA profiles show that Muse’s paint involves at least 60 different victims. This constitutes a major failure on the part of the mayor’s office, and his promise to keep the city safe. That night, two female fans approach Muse as he paints another mural, and he attacks and kills both women. Gouging their eyes out, he leaves their bodies for the police to find. Knowing that his “art” has caught the attention of the authorities, he’s flaunting it now.

Daredevil: Born Again’s Mini-Hawkeye Crossover Millionaire and secret vigilante Jack Duquesne confronts Wilson Fisk on Daredevil: Born Again.Marvel Television

Wilson informs Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) that Luca came to visit him in his office, showing him disrespect. The whole thing is an emasculating reminder that his wife was better at being a criminal Kingpin than he ever was. Later, at a fundraising gala, Fisk meets with many of the old money families of New York, whom he needs for their financial support for his redevelopment plans. Among the attendees is Jack Duquesne (Tony Dalton), who Marvel fans might remember from Hawkeye. He was Kate Bishop’s mother’s rich boyfriend, who put his sword fighting skills to good use in that series’ final episode. Now we know since the events of that series, he’s continued being a vigilante, as properly become the Swordsman. He makes vague threats to Fisk at the party, suggesting that without the elites and their money, he’s nothing. Another blow to Wilson’s fragile ego.

Cherry the P.I. (Clark Johnson) visits Matt in his office, and tells him that although it’s not public knowledge yet, there’s a new serial killer in the city. In fact, it’s a murderer with as many as 60 victims. Cherry tries to beg Matt to let this one go, and let the police handle it. But Matt knows he can’t sit idly by while innocents are dying. That same night, at the mayor’s party, Daniel Blake (Michael Gandolfini) pulls Fisk aside and shows him the bodies of the two new Muse victims. Muse left them right under one of his art pieces, taunting the police, who he now knows are on to him.

In the mayor’s office, Police Chief Gallo (Michael Gaston) begs Fisk for more officers to take down Muse. Instead, Fisk tells him he’s to put together a special task force, made of cops hand selected by him. The chief realizes that every cop in this task force that Wilson wants is corrupt. Or at the very least, has had major discipline issues. Fisk offers to oversee this task force personally, and the next morning, he meets with them. He tells them all they are now founding members of his anti-vigilante task force, and “this city is yours.” He riles them up, essentially giving them impunity to act outside the law to find Muse.

The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen Returns at LastMatt Murdock (Charlie Cox) back in the Daredevil costume.Marvel Television

At the old train tracks, Angela goes searching for the killer, not even realizing it’s Muse. As Matt does research on the abandoned train tracks online, Angela’s aunt call him. She tells him that Angela has gone missing, and not knowing where else to turn. Matt struggles with what to do next, and calls 911…before hanging up the phone and saying “F*** it.” He gets the Daredevil costume out at last, and heads to the train tracks where Angela went missing. Muse has already caught her, and takes her unconscious body to his lair. He lays her out on a table, and we see the hanging bodies of several of his other victims

Daredevil vs. Muse (Round 1?)Daredevil (Charlie Cox) howls in anger after fighting Muse on Daredevil: Born Again.Marvel Television

He begins to drain Angela of blood. Not long after, Muse hears something approaching, and we see Daredevil come out of the shadows and beat the crap out of him. Still, Matt is a little rusty at the vigilante game, and Muse holds his own. Whoever this serial killer really is, he’s clearly well-trained in fighting, if he can keep up with Daredevil. This fight happens while Angela is being slowly bled to death. Matt finally chokes Muse long enough for him to pass out, just as Angela’s heart stops. He chooses to revive Angela and lets Muse get away, despite knowing that Muse will kill others now that he’s escaped. But he can’t allow himself to let Angela die.

Fisk Pummels His Prisoner, Reverting to TypeDAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 1, Episode 6 Recap, New Revelations from “Excessive Force”_2Marvel Television

Fisk goes down to his basement where he has Vanessa’s lover Adam locked up. He comes down with an ax, giving us serious Jack Torrance in The Shining vibes. Wilson says that he thinks Vanessa would want him to let Adam go, but he doesn’t think he can. He throws Adam the ax, giving him a chance to defend himself. In a rage, Adam attacks Fisk with the ax, but the mayor easily overpowers him. Fisk throws Adam around the room, and pummels him, right in front of his beloved painting “Rabbit in a Snowstorm.” Fisk begins screaming “Mine!!” Which we assume is a reference to Vanessa. At the same time, a few miles apart, both Fisk and Murdock give in to their true selves. Fisk is a brutal, territorial animal, and Matt is the heroic yet perpetually rage-filled man.

What happens now that Daredevil is back on the city streets? Will Fisk blow another gasket? And will Daredevil catch Muse and stop more murders? We’ll find out as Daredevil: Born Again continues its first season.

Win a Lifetime Supply of Fireball (If You’re Over 90)

Apparently, we’ve been missing out on one important fact in life. It turns out that grandmas really love Fireball, at least, that’s what the brand of cinnamon-flavored alcohol says. Fireball whiskey, who is always getting up to some shenanigans, recently announced a lifetime giveaway of its delicious drink, but only to those who are pushing the ole 100. If you’re 90 and up, you can enter to win Fireball for the rest of your days. Fireball reveals it’s “cranking up the heat with a lifetime supply offering exclusively for the folks who put the ‘social’ in social security and are ready to twilight up their final years.” Classy. We won’t question Fireball on whether this is kind of a morbid thing to do, especially not if it gives a grandma out there a ton of joy.

Fireball global brand director Danny Suich shared in a statement (which we first saw on Food & Wine), “We’ve seen them all over social, we’ve heard directly from the source, and we can confirm one undeniable truth: senior citizens love Fireball. And who are we to argue with their years of wisdom? After all, they were born right as Prohibition was ending and have been breaking barriers and bringing the heat ever since. It’s time to celebrate the 90-plus crowd, the party royalty who never stopped turning up.” I mean mood. I hope to be drinking Fireball when I’m 90 myself.

If you are 90 yourself, here’s how you can get in on the Fireball whiskey lifetime-supply giveaway action. First, check your birthday, were you born in 1935 or earlier and are you ready to “prove the fun is far from over”? If so, you can enter to win a lifetime supply of Fireball today by visiting LifetimeSupplyofFireball.com and fill out the form there.

But you can’t be passing this offer down in your will, it is only for you, in celebration of your 90 years of life. Fireball notes, “No passing it down in the will, no sneaky ‘whisky inheritance’ loopholes, and definitely no ghostly reappearances to claim a refill.”

Fireball lifetime giveaway for 90 year oldsSazerac Company

Okay, we love a ghostly refill. But if you’re not 90 yet, make sure to nominate any 90-year-olds in your life for this Fireball-filled honor. And make sure to upload a photo of you and your nominee sipping some Fireball whiskey, and answer the question: “How do you (or how does your nominee) keep the mischief alive at 90+?”

Just in case snail mail is more your speed, you can also mail your photo and response to Fireball at the following address: Sazerac Company, ATTN: Team Fireball, 10101 Linn Station Rd #400, Louisville, KY 40223.

“This supply is for the elders who don’t just raise glasses, they raise hell, too.” Words to live by.
