Can I Write Myself Out of Crushing Despair?
If I were to follow the trends in the blogosphere, I would have titled this post, “Can You Write Yourself Out of Crushing Despair?”.

And, before you criticize me for the punctuation at the end of that last sentence {?”.}, I feel it’s perfectly rational—I’m writing a sentence which demands a period at its end and it has a quoted question tucked inside it…
Back to one of the real points of this post:
Why use “Myself...

Vow of silence: how much do you talk about your novel in progress?
Today’s re-blog, by Roz Morris, gives some excellent reasons (which you may or may not agree with…) for not discussing a book in progress, until ………
If you’ve hung around here for a while, you might have spotted that I’m writing my third novel and it’s called Ever Rest. Assuming you give two hoots about it, or even just one, you’ll have noticed that’s about all I give away.
I’ve mentioned Ever Rest in posts where I talk about a writing challenge that taught me a new trick. I’v...

You’ve got a Friend in Me: Reading Buddies at the Library
Today’s re-blog might get you thinking about volunteering to help some kids………
This summer, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh launched a brand-new volunteer program called Reading Buddies. The program was developed out of an initiative called Hazelwood Reads Together, and here’s the gist: trained volunteers are stationed in the library to read to and interact with kids, one on one or in small groups.
We know that kids succeed when they read, and that having acaring mentor doing th...
“The Violet Hour” ~ #Writers Facing Death . . .
If you put — What does “the violet hour” mean? — into Google, you’ll get, right at the top:

“Violet hour is the time when the sun is setting and the sky turns purple. The sunset scene and the violet color is usually representative of sadness and something fading away…”
That statement is followed by a link to a Wiki about a poem T. S. Eliot wrote—The Waste Land—which contains“the violet hour” twice; plus, “the viole...

MY STORYBOOK LIFE by Kathy Anne Cowie
Today’s re-blog is a family-reading-memoir
I was born into a reading family. I did not know until I was older what a gift this was, or how rare. There were seven of us – two parents, five kids – and we each had our own passions when it came to reading. Dad read the newspaper and a variety of magazines that were never at risk for poaching (Popular Mechanics, Organic Gardening, the Burpee Seed Catalog); Mom read thick, crinkle-covered novels from the library, kept in towering p...

Let’s get this interview started.

A Tribute to Paper – Cool Stuff
Today’s re-blog reminds us of what some books are made of; and what else can be made with it :-)
Artist and industrial designer Lilian van Daal makes exquisite things from various materials. Her collection made cool stuff this time. Here, she pays tribute to paper by showing it in ‘delicate textures’ to remind us of how we give little value to paper when we use it, perhaps sometimes irrationally in our every day lives.
Lilian says: ‘Delicate Textures’she hopes, would ma...
