Excerpt:
How much agony can a man endure before he surrenders every precious thought of the woman he holds most dear? I’ve lost count of the successive days of torture. Time after time, long, flat strips of glowing hot iron are pressed onto my exposed arms and legs. They sear away the flesh, layer by layer, almost to the bone, and the pungent smell of charring meat and the crackling of curling skin dominate my senses. I struggle to keep a lucid image of Annemarie’s beautiful smile in mind and remember the gentle touch of her soft fingertips as they glide across the coarse skin of my cheek. It’s the only string of goodness that remains from my vanishing humanity, but the torment of every exposed nerve scratches at my soul, seeking to push me beyond the edges of insanity.

Like a vise clamped on a piece of wood, my teeth clench into my lower lip until they eventually pierce through. I’m repulsed by the sour, metallic taste of my demon blood, but the pain refocuses my determination and keeps me from begging for mercy. The pain will stop if I surrender what remains of my broken humanity. As another bolt of pain tears at my body, I tighten my jaw again. I can’t crumble on Bethany’s table. I refuse to give her the pleasure.

 Author Interview:

Tell us a bit about yourself and your family. Don’t give away any secrets but what are you about? I’m with my domestic partner for going on seven years. He’s a firefighter. Haven’t wrote that firefighter hero yet, but when I do it’s going to be fabulous!

Give away secrets? No everything about me is a secret. LOL. I don’t really have any. I’m the proverbial open book. If there’s one thing I know anyone will say about me it’s that I am persistent. Sure had to have nerves of steel to get this featured book finally published, or soon to be…

One of your favorite quotes? Nothing ventured is nothing gained.

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing? That it’s possible to publish you first book and make sales despite having over five hundred rejections. Oops, maybe I shouldn’t say that you might not want to buy my book.

About the book

Tell us a little bit about your book? Every single girl and guy knows it’s a numbers game to find the right person. And probably a good portion of us have been caught in the web of obsession and rode the rollercoaster of an unhealthy relationship at one time in our lives. The attraction to the wrong guy or gal doesn’t necessarily end when “we’re all grown up”. Despite of the seriousness of the subject matter I decided to shed a somewhat humorous and fun light on the subject hence the book title Having Fun with Mr. Wrong.

How did you choose the genre you write in? I’ve had a burning desire to write this book since 2008 and I love reading the genre. It was once called chic lit but I’ve dubbed it relationship fiction because it’s so not just for girls.

What are you currently working on? The revisions of this book and the start of a new career in insurance. I’m one of those that quit the day job thinking I could make a living writing fiction (in truth I was semi-retired) and arrived at the rude awakening that it may not be in the cards. But I still love it and plan to continue the series Fun with Mr. Wrong, today’s book feature being the first and my contemporary romance series (first two books under contract) called Executive Women in Love. The books under contract should be out Winter 2015.

If you gave one of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say? Guido would say this: “No matter what anyone thinks of me, I’ve always had Carmala’s best interests at heart. And I will never give up on my love for her. Someday she will understand. Someday she will thank me for all that I have done for us.”

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans? I hope you like my books and find some answers and inspiration for yourself along the way.

Fast Questions:

Cookies or Cake? Neither. Tai Tini instead. Have to read the book to get the recipe. J

Ice tea or lemonade? Neither—too much sugar.

Night or day? Both.

Laptop or desktop for writing? Laptop or tablet

Favorite color: Pink is the new red (for me J)

Question for your audience:
If you’ve had a Mr. Wrong in your life what can you say he brought to your life’s experience (in a positive way!)?

Excerpt:

Just as Lucy said, I got the phone call at three. I was really starting to hate the true “witching hour.” I needed sleep, dammit.

I let the phone ring a few times, hoping that whoever was on the other end would just hang up. I wasn’t that lucky. I raised up, grabbed my phone off the nightstand, and swiped the screen.

“Mr. Holiday?” the man asked when I grunted into the phone.

“You realize it’s three a.m. right?” My head hit the pillow. I did not want to be doing this right now.

The man sighed. “It couldn’t be helped. We need you.”

I twitched. Who the hell was this guy anyway? Kind of presumptuous to call somebody at random this late at night when you’ve never met the person on the other end. His momma never taught him no manners.

I looked around the room. The light in the corner was still on. I’d gotten into the habit of sleeping with a light on ever since Sorrow’s Point. Yeah, it was irrational, but hey, I was trying to keep the beasties at bay. Lucy was sitting on the floor in front of the TV. I could just barely see the program through her. Her hair was as pale as usual—so blonde it looked almost white. She was wearing the same white nightgown she always did.

“How did you get my number?” I asked. I had to know. I mean, I doubted Will would suggest me to someone else.

“You came highly recommended.”

That was news to me. Only a very small group of people knew I did something besides graphic design. “By who?”

“That’s not important right now. You’re needed. That’s what should matter.”

I sat up. Not important to him, maybe, but it sure as hell was important to me. This guy was starting to piss me off. “Listen. I’m not about to traipse around and do whatever the hell it is you want me to do when you won’t tell me who you are and you won’t tell me who told you about me.”

“O’Malley said you’d be difficult.”

I froze. Father O’Malley had been the one who allowed me to see the Church as a vocation when I was a kid. But there was one problem. He’d been dead since before I left the Church. I didn’t care where he got the information. That was a low blow. Still, though, him having known about O’Malley at all had me nervous.

“I’m going to hang up now. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t call here again.”

“No, wait!”

The desperation in his voice was the only thing that kept me from hanging up the phone. Now things were getting interesting. “All right. I’m listening.”

“O’Malley told me about you in a dream. When I woke up, your phone number was scrawled on my hand.”

Yeah, that was definitely the weird I had experience with. Having a dead person talk to him in a dream wasn’t so different from having a disembodied soul speak to me in a nightmare. Yeah, my life was really interesting. Though, I have to say, I’d never drawn on myself in my sleep. That was a new one. “So, who is it that needs an exorcism?”

Excerpt:

Chapter 1

Missing You

The small fire crackled and popped. A light breeze sent embers swirling up into the air, each disappearing suddenly as their little sparks died.

Exhaustion made Arowyn’s eyelids heavy, but her mind whirled with too many thoughts for sleep to come.

They'd finally returned Prince to Rivenward, and just in time. The final leg of their journey began the previous night as the sun set. They’d reached the gates before noon and sent him off before heading back to the forest. Being awake for a full day didn’t help with her mood.

She closed her eyes and tugged her cloak tighter around herself. The fact Prince was gone didn’t want to settle in her mind. Part of her couldn’t believe it. The rest just wanted to cry. She missed him. His absence made everything feel…wrong. Another of her boys gone. At least he wasn’t dead…and he’d promised he’d see her again one day.

One day.

He couldn’t have been any more vague, and she ground her teeth in frustration.

Men.

"Aro, you need to get some sleep."

Her gaze flicked over to Bo, resting on his side by the fire. "I know. I will soon."

Firelight reflected in his brown eyes as he watched her worriedly for a moment before letting out a loud sigh. Large fingers rubbed at the scar on his cheek. "I miss him, too."

With a small smile, she nodded and ducked her head, not wanting him to see her struggle not to cry. She’d promised herself no more tears. So far, she’d somehow managed and hoped to keep it that way. Her life had been too full of tears.

Kei walked into the light, having returned from checking on the horses. She smiled when he sat down gracefully next to her.

"You look tired," he said quietly.

"I am. I was waiting for you."

He grinned but shook his head. The firelight danced across his golden skin and brought out the gold in his spikey, light brown hair. His golden eyes caught hers, searching them to see how she was doing. Her eyes matched his now, thanks to Fey magic. "Are you…"

"I’m doing fine," she insisted. "Don’t worry about me."

Shrugging a shoulder, he looked away, but his lips curved up in a wry smile. "I always do."

She rubbed her tired eyes. It wasn’t very late, but she needed sleep. They'd borrowed an extra horse from the Were and would leave early in the morning to return it. She needed to be awake and on her guard. The alpha, Rhee-En, had taken an interest in her, not romantically, but still an interest. Alphas wanted strong packs, and though she was human, she could mind-speak, take the fury from Fey, and now even heal herself with borrowed Fey power. More importantly, she hadn’t been afraid of them, or of the Dragos, Damon. The Were appreciated such strength. Or thought her insane enough to be of use to them.

Kei patted the ground beside him. "Come. Try to sleep."

She settled down next to him, rolling onto her side to face him as he did the same. As always, he took her hands in his to hold between them.

"Have good dreams tonight," he whispered.

A deep sigh escaped her. "I’ll try."

He frowned, his eyes searching hers. "Why so sad? He’s home safe now. He’ll be better soon."

"I know," she mumbled. Elves were bound to their land and its magic. Being gone so long from Rivenward almost killed Prince. Her thoughts turned back to their parting. "He kissed me."

Kei grinned. "We saw." His brows drew together at her solemn face. "That’s what you wanted, wasn’t it?"

Her cheeks flushed remembering the kiss. A passionate, frantic kiss that stole her breath away. "I don’t know what I wanted," she admitted. "I love him. I wanted him to love me, too. But…I know it can’t work, not with him being a prince, and an Elf, and immortal." Sighing again, her chest tightened. "It’s not fair to him, to love me but have to watch me die. I wouldn’t do it to you. I shouldn’t expect it of him either."

Kei watched her quietly for a while. "Love is love, Aro. Sometimes it’s all that matters."

Teasers/Quotes:

"Find me in your heart, Aro, and you can find me anywhere." ~Kei

"Rotting Elf." She threw a dagger with extra force. "I love you." She threw another. "Why aren't you here?" And another. "Why–" Her voice cracked and her hand dropped mid-throw. "I need you," she whispered into the empty room.  ~Aro

"Such expressions on your face. What are you thinking?"

His smile was soft, kind…and she didn't trust it for a moment. "Want to make another try at reading my thoughts?"

Sultry lips twisted into a wry grin. "I think not." ~Baelan and Aro

"But he left, and he'd promised he wouldn't." Unable to keep still, she crossed her arms and let her feet wander.

Garen watched her pace for a few moments and then sat, crossing his legs. "Sometimes, we can't always keep our promises."

Excerpt:

Forehead pressed against mine, uncaring about the world around him, Ky’s words whispered over my lips, the coolness chilling me even more than the fact that I was still standing there in wet clothes. “Don’t ever leave me like that again, Calla Lily. I don’t care if you hate me. I don’t care if you want to kick my ass, or kick me in the balls because you’re pissed at the world or me in general. I don’t know what happened to make you leave the rink. But dammit, I do know that you won’t get that chance again. Because from now on, I will be there, and I won’t back down, do you hear me? You. Will not. Run.” I nodded, sniffling. Yeah, I heard every last word. Felt it like it was being sewn and weaved with needle and thread throughout my traitorous, agreeing body. If he kept looking at me like this, I’d fall to my knees…give him whatever he wanted—pain to my heart and all.

Licking his lips, eyes glazing over completely, Ky leaned in so close that our noses were pressed flush now. “Because, Calla Lily Bennett, I. Am. Yours. I’ve been yours for years. And I won’t stop being yours. Ever.”

Closing my eyes was the only way to escape from the sudden abruptness of his words. The brutal, perfect truth and promise that was only emphasized with the twinkle in his eyes. Maybe if I kept my lids drawn, then he wouldn’t say anything else. He’d get the hint and he’d leave. Unfortunately though, a part of me—a very traitorous and emotional part of me—didn’t want Ky to go. I was tired of fighting the pain; tired of living an emotional lie that I was just fine and dandy forgetting. Today was proof of that in the strangest of senses.

But there had to be a way I could get by without actually remembering, right? Maybe my wish of starting over and forgetting weren’t that far off after all. Because I wanted Ky, like Ky wanted me. I just didn’t want what he was going to force me to do in the end.

Synopsis
Crime really stings in Killer WASPs.

Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, is a haven for East Coast WASPs, where tennis tournaments and cocktails at the club are revered traditions. Little happens in the sleepy suburb, and that is the way the Lilly Pulitzer–clad residents prefer it. So when antiques store owner Kristin Clark and her portly basset hound stumble upon the area's newest real estate developer lying unconscious beneath the hydrangea bushes lining the driveway of one of Bryn Mawr's most distinguished estates, the entire town is abuzz with gossip and intrigue.

When the attacker strikes again just days later, Kristin and her three best friends—Holly, a glamorous chicken nugget heiress with a penchant for high fashion; Joe, a decorator who's determined to land his own HGT V show; and Bootsie, a preppy but nosy newspaper reporter—join forces to solve the crime. While their investigation takes them to cocktail parties, flea markets, and the country club, they must unravel the mystery before the assailant claims another victim.

"You have the most boring life," a faint voice said in Anna's ear.

Straightening from her hunched position over her math test, Anna looked wildly around, her heart racing.

"Right here," the voice said again.

Turning, she shrieked as a gray man solidified next to her in the aisle. Her pencil snapped in her hand. She picked up one of the broken ends and held it like a weapon.

"Now, is that anyway to treat an old friend?"

Anna stared at the gray man a little longer, took in the tight pants, belt full of pouches, and cloak. She sighed. Being able to see through him should have been her first clue.

"Anna, is there a problem?" Her math teacher, Mr. Frank, sounded annoyed.

Anna looked around. The entire class stared at her. "Uh." She glanced at David, the apparition, and then back at the class.

"Well, they can't see me right now, of course." He sounded smug. "Would you like them to?"

"No," she muttered, answering both her teacher and the ill-timed specter. "No. I'm sorry, Mr. Frank. I just thought I saw something, like a ghost, and it scared me. I've been reading some scary stories recently and I guess they got to me." It sounded lame, even to her, especially in the middle of a midterm math test.

"Very well, Anna. Please keep your hauntings to yourself in the future."

Several people in the class snickered. Karen, her best friend, shot her a concerned look before going back to her test. Anna shut her eyes for a minute, wondering what the gossips would say about the incident. "We can talk later," she muttered at the ghost.

"Of course, Anna." His cultured voice sounded amused and apologetic.

She shook her head, not really angry with David. He had saved her and Sabaska's life over the summer and she could survive a few days of ridicule so he could have some amusement. And he was right; her life was boring. Especially after last summer. She pushed those thoughts away, took a deep breath, and forced herself to focus on the test.

Excerpt:

Lifting her skirt enough to allow herself movement, Ireland ventured further down the line to those patiently awaiting her attention. Her breath caught, the next two faces turning to her like flower petals meeting the rays of the sun. Rip Van Winkle, not the decrepit shell of himself she knew but the man he had once been, knelt before her. Strong, strapping, and staring up at her with a level of trust and admiration that made a flush of guilt stain her cheeks. Forcing her troubled gaze to travel farther still, she found her heart seized in desire’s iron fist.

His name escaped her parted lips in a breathless sigh, “Noah.”

A crooked smile meant just for her curled the corners of his lips. “You know what we want and why we’re here …” his words trailed off as he tipped his head, offering her his throat.

Beside him, Rip matched the gesture.

Ireland stumbled, her heel tangling in the hem of her skirt. “No! I-I could never hurt you! You know that! You know me!”

Catching her hand, Noah reeled her body back to him. One strong arm hooked around the rise of her hips and pinned her to him. “Your gift is beautiful. Don’t ever doubt that.” Turning the inside of her arm skyward, his mouth teased the tender flesh of her wrist. The heat of his breath and delicate caress of each dotted kiss sent waves of desire coursing through her. Hazel eyes, warmed to molten gold by palpable desire, locked with her own and refused to falter. “Please, don’t deny me.”

The adoration in his gaze, and the seduction of his touch made Ireland feel like the most beautiful being on the planet … until she caught sight of Rip out of the corner of her eye. He was wearing that matching mask of longing. It wasn’t her they wanted—it never had been—but a taste of what she could do. To be near death, and delve into the darkness. Their own twisted yearning to thumb their nose at mortality led them to follow her.

Clamping her eyes on the wash of tears that threatened, Ireland ignored the wailing of her heart … and laid a palm to each of their cheeks. One lone tear snuck between her lashes at the cascade of tingles seeping up her arms.

“You can’t blame them for not understanding,” a familiar voice drawled behind her.

She spun as he neared, leaving Rip and Noah wheezing for breath—or, more likely, completion of her task.

Techno-colored flowers bloomed in a colorless world each time the sole of Ridley’s shoes met the earth. The crisp cut of his white, tailored suit was accented by a burst of color from the button-down shirt beneath that changed in hue to match the species of flowers that sprung to life. Hydrangeas blue. Orchid purple. Lily fuchsia. Rose coral. As he neared, Ireland noticed his eyes morphed to match as well. The result hypnotic.

His haggard and troubled façade was a thing of the past. The man before her exuded confidence and a zest for life from every pore. The draw of which was so magnetic Ireland had to fight to keep her feet planted while her body insisted she close the distance between them.

“To them this is a thrill, a game of chicken against the Reaper himself.” Ridley paused beside her, his shoulder skimming hers. Even then he didn’t grace her with a glance, his attention fixed on Rip and Noah. Tipping his head toward her, the warmth of his breath teased over her breast bone. “For us, it’s destiny.”

The moment he stepped away from her, the chill of solitude lashed at Ireland’s soul and cut deep. Bending eye-level with her withering subjects, Ridley pursed his rose petal lips to blow a soft, healing breath over both of them. Wan complexions of the dying were ripened to plump apricot. Both men blinked away their disappointment before dipping in a low bow—foreheads to the ground in a show of respect.

“No need for that, boys.” Ridley smoothed the front of his suit coat, a self-depreciating chuckle playing over his lips.

Neither humbled servant budged.

“You’re like me?” Pacing in a slow circle around him, Ireland’s eye narrowed.

He matched her steps, leading them in an intimate waltz normally reserved for predators—or lovers.

“Like you?” He tsked. “Oh no, my darling flower. There is no other like you. Our only similarity is being pawns in a game that began centuries before either of our fathers got an amorous gleam in their eyes.”

Ireland’s gaze lingered over the soft curve of his mouth, wondering if his lips could possibly taste as delectable as they looked. “How do we play?”

Curling one finger into a ruffled tuft of her skirt, Ridley pulled her to him. Bowing his head, he brushed his cheek over the delicate curve of her collarbone. “The game is already in motion,” he murmured. “The rule sheet not meant for our eyes. All we can do now is stay alive.”

Ireland weaved her fingers into his hair, yanking his head back with a passion driven force that bordered on violent. “I’ve taken lives. I’m a monster,” she snarled against his lips, tormenting them both with the agonizing veil of energy that denied their touch.

His hand snaked up her arm to find her fingers and loosen her grasp. Palm to palm. Fingers entwined with fingers. “Does granting it make me any better?”

Ridley didn’t give her time to answer. With one hand pressed to the small of her back he crushed her to him.  Their lips met with a desperate urgency that caused Heaven and Earth to quake in nervous anticipation of what was coming …

~TEMPTED TEASER~Hello, gorgeous creeper. Silently, he extended his hand filled with my things. I had no choice but to sweep my fingers over his palm never expecting a zapping current to pass between us. I shivered, jerking my arm backward as the electrical jolt raced up my arm before discharging. I gasped when it landed deep in my belly. Distracted by my reaction, I made the mistake of meeting his gaze. His dark eyes in the daylight were bottomless, and his attention had my pulse in a race, but where the heck was the finish line? “Thank you,” I mumbled. “I can manage.” I wished he’d stopped helping me since I was coming undone. “No question. Still I want to make certain you’re all right.” Once more our gazes locked, and the effect was like entering into a timeless chasm. So, there I was kneeling on the ground, unprepared for the cauterizing heat of staring into his eyes at close range. It was all too much. I ground my teeth with the need to get away before I did something incredibly stupid. “Look, that’s nice. But I’m fine and really don’t need any help out here.” “Not a second ago.” He snorted a laugh. “Luckily, this machine basically drives itself and brakes fast and hard. Really, you could’ve been hurt if it’d been another car and driver.” The way he said fast and hard had me sputtering as the words echoed within my mind, sending a swarm of butterflies housed in my stomach into flight. Yep, I remembered, he did that to me. He offered the last few items he’d picked up and I reached for them, brushing my fingers over his. “Well, bully for me.” The words slipped out of my mouth. No way to pull them back, so I finished with, “This isn’t NASCAR, you know.” Without a break, his brow lifted. Game on. “Nor the Boston Marathon, sweetheart.” “Humble much?” I asked, going with the flow. “I’m not here to debate. Eliza, isn’t it? I dropped by to see when you might have a moment to talk.” “Talk?” I mocked. I couldn’t help myself. Talking was not what I imagined he wanted to do with me. It sure as heck wasn’t what I wanted to do with him. “Yes. Talk.” He inhaled in that way people did when they chose their words carefully. I’d seen it, but rarely practiced the art. “Last night in the class and now, I’m convinced we have a connection between us. No sense in running from it.” His eyes bored into mine and I froze. It got worse when he tunneled his fingers through hair, and a blast of heat rippled through me. The way his hair stood up looked like he’d fucked someone senseless. Who was I fooling? I seriously wanted to book passage on that cruise. “Oh,” I replied deep into a brain drain. “Unless, you tell me to go,” he spoke to me in a measured tone. Shit. Wake up, Eliza. Yoga. Studio. Student. Ring a bell?

~SEDUCED TEASER~“Miss Hillwood, care to explain what the hell you’re doing here?” The sound of Graham’s seductively deep voice swept over me from behind and exploded in my head. I turned so fast I got whiplash. Our gazes connected, and the grimace he wore melted me, sending a jolt of something like apprehension or anticipation deep in my belly. I gaped up at him with my damp hair partially obstructing my view as he stood over me, appearing powerful and all too much a predator. And like prey, I sat there hypnotized by his closeness and captivated by the thought of what he’d do next. He brushed back some of my bangs. “From your flushed cheeks, I can see you’ve been here awhile.” He glanced around the club as he lightly traced my bottom lip. The feel of fingers on my skin made me hungry for more. “I take it your friends are still out on the dance floor.” “How do you know who I came with?” I asked, unwilling to get up and throw myself at him. Dressed in dark jeans and a black button-down shirt that stretched over his muscular chest and broad shoulders, he was sin, sex, and a click away from losing it. And I drank in the sight of him. Graham’s clothing left nothing to the imagination for someone who’d been pinned under him. That person being me. “I thought I made myself clear when I expressly told you to go home and call me.” He ran his knuckles along my jaw. “Didn’t I?” The slight kicked-up curl to his smile gave me the distinct impression the soreness between my legs would be nothing compared to what he had in store. I wet my lips, his focus trained on my tongue, and I swallowed. Seeing the heat in his eyes build, I struggled to breathe. The pounding music on the dance floor echoed in my heartbeat, thudding way too loud in my chest. I knew he wasn’t here to share a drink. He fully intended on delivering something we both remembered. His eyes glinted brighter, and he gave me a look that promised he’d consume me without mercy. “I forgot. Things got a little weird,” I offered, plastering innocence over my face. “Eliza,” he growled my name in a low rasp filled with hunger and frustration. I twisted my fingers in my lap. “Look, this is my last night out with friends. Besides, I don’t see you sitting at home knitting a scarf. Why should I when that’s what I’ll be doing for the next six months, if you have your over-the-top way?” That had to be the alcohol talking—this played into what we both wanted, and I never made things this easy. For anyone. “Do you remember the last time we had to take a short walk?” His arched brow sent a dart of excitement racing up my spine. “Oh, me and a few places in my body remember more than well.” He leaned in and whispered up against my cheek, “That tone, Ms. Hillwood.”
