A Very Short Story of Loss, Reunion and Budgetary Ecstasy
It’s a library miracle, Charlie Brown!
A Cascade Township branch regular inadvertently left five KDL DVDs on an airplane not too long ago. Luckily, a Grandville branch customer came to the rescue, when she happened to take a subsequent flight on the same plane and found the movies. Rather than leave them in baggage claim in Atlanta, she returned them to KDL herself, which means the guy who had just paid more than $100 in replacement charges didn’t have to tell his wife about the unforeseen expense (that has since been removed from his account).
Good Samaritan, if you were here right now I would give your cheeks a big squeeze.
Free Classes for Parents and Caregivers
Parents and caregivers are invited to participate in Early Childhood Essentials classes at KDL this winter. If you have young children or if you work in child care and need professional development hours, this series is for you. Note: classes are for adults and childcare is not provided.

KDL: Your Happy Place
Happy New Year!
Today kicks off
KDL’s own Happiness Project, an 18-month campaign aimed at promoting happy, healthy and helpful attitudes and actions to staff and patrons at our 18 branches. The effort, modeled after the book The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, includes programs for all ages and community involvement projects.
January–February programs, themed “A Happier, Healthier You @ KDL,” include a teddy bear clinic at various branches, “happy dance” parties for kids, and for adults, programs on simple, organized living, detox yoga, the new health care law and vegan desserts. The first community involvement project is a hygiene product drive at all our branches, which will be distributed in cooperation with the Kent Intermediate School District to children in Kent County who are experiencing homelessness.
You can find out about system-wide Happiness Project programming by asking at a branch or perusing our Kaleidoscope seasonal program guide.
