"I’d Choose Hell Over A Homophobic Heaven:" Desmond Tutu Has Some Strong Words For Homophobic “Christians"

Desmond Tutu denounced religions that discriminate against LGTB-identified people by making some very strong statements during the United Nations’ launch of its gay-rights program in Cape Town this Friday, reports AFP.

He leaves no doubt about his opinions regarding LGTB rights, declaring:

I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this.

He added:

I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.

South Africa’s iconic archbishop is clearly still fighting for equality despite his retirement, as he went on to relate the gay rights issue to his country’s tumultuous history, saying:

I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level.

The all-white reinvention...

The all-white reinvention of Medieval Europe commonly depicted in popular fiction, films, tv shows and art is entirely that: a fiction. An invention. An erasure. Obviously, people of color have been an essential and integral part of European life, European art, and European literary imagination since time immemorial. To cite “historical accuracy" as a means to project whitewashed images of the past into the future to maintain a fiction of white supremacy is an unconscionable farce.

People of Color are not an anachronism.

Humane?

horrific.

horrific.

I honestly don’t know what has to happen for us to figure out that this is terrible and simply must stop. I just don’t know.

While I am vegan for environmental reasons, this is what I meant by “unethically acquired meat”. It’s cruel, sadistic, and is just not right. Now this is murder.

ok people seem to have a lot of misconceptions about this picture but as a pig farmer i think i can set the record straight.

this is actually much safer for the animals. Often in a natural setting the sow will roll on top of the cute little baby piglets and, you know, crush them to death. She will also occasionally roll onto her belly so that not all of the piglets can suckle and they end up dying of starvation. They don’t leave the mother pigs in these cruel-looking contraptions permanently, it’s just until the piglets are strong enough to be moved around on their own. The mother is also taken out of the cage, walked, fed, and then put on the other side she she gets exercised and doesn’t have health problems to do with immobility. Because the piglets can’t get right up to their mothers in the cage, they are put under heat lamps to keep warm. Back when we were more than a finishing operation, I saw this all the time and it was for the piglet’s safety, and is in fact not a cruel practice. This is a case of misinformation.

So this is kind of like those little guppy isolation tanks that are used so that the female guppy and the other fish can’t kill all the babies.image

Amazing how a picture taken out of context can look so terrible.

THANK YOU

reblogging for that commentary because i had a feeling there was something fishy about a url called “vegan-because-fuck-you"

Interesting with the commentary. Photographs (like all art) are just as much rhetoric as aesthetic.

READ THE COMMENTS, because out-of-context stuff doesn’t help your cause. (I’ve been accidentally guilty of doing it myself, but yeah)

What I always enjoyed about Morticia and Gomez was how they made no secret that they passionately loved each other. We get so used to seeing depictions (on television especially) of married couples in continual states of contention—belittling one another, falling into the wife/mother-husband/child trope, and generally disrespecting each other, which made me wonder why they even bothered marrying in the first place.

But Gomez and Morticia never lose their desire and respect for each other. Is it because they’re “weird” that it’s acceptable to depict married life so positively? Or are they “strange” because, after three children and a lifetime together, they still adore each other? I know no marriage is perfect, but wouldn’t it be nice if the media portrayed marriage as more than a continuous state of exasperation and anger? Maybe that’s why romance novelists and romance novel readers are so embattled: because we dare to believe in love.

“How long has it been since we waltzed?”

“Hours.”

Never miss a chance to reblog Gomez and Morticia.

I will never stop loving this.

I want a love like theirs.

Throw in an occasional “Fuck you Mooney" after a zinger is thrown, and that’s what I want.  Something like my parents’ romance.
