Aquaman painting

Ghoul Mourning, Maniacs!!

I love a bunch of Murphy Anderson’s DC Comics artwork. The one’s I truly enjoy, are his pieces used for a variety of products- Batman, Superman, Aquaman, etc. pop up everywhere in the 70′s. Those specific images are iconic.

I do my interpretation of his Aquaman art on 18×24 canvas panel.

Ha-Ha! Horror book cover

Ghoul Mourning, Maniacs!!!!

I want to share with you, my book cover. This is the front of Ha-Ha! Horror, coming soon, from Mystery & Horror LLC. I want to thank Gwen Mayo and Sarah Glenn, of M.A.H.L.L.C., for taking on my project, and all of the people (Julie and Andrew Davis, of Cats Like Us, and all of the wonderful blurb providers) that have been very patient and helpful, with its development. We’ll have more information coming shortly, so for now, it’s my painting sequence. What I tried to bring into this painting, is slapstick comedy. That moment when the Phantom gets unmasked? What if he was cross eyed, and the orchestra (silent movie, so a live orchestra was fairly common) hit a car horn sound, like “Ooooga!!” or something like it. Plus, the influences on me over time- Mad Magazine, comic books, Famous Monsters, pulp magazine covers, etc., just begged to be toyed with! I hope I achieved my goals here.

The American Side

Ghoul Mourning, Maniacs!!

I had the opportunity to work as an extra, in The American Side. It’s about Tesla, the inventor, and his theories/fascination with Niagara Falls as a hydropower source. That’s the bare bones of it, I don’t wish to reveal a plot point or anything.

The American Side is written and directed by Jenna Ricker, with additional writing by Greg Stuhr, an accomplished actor and major character in the film.

Rounding out the cast are Janeane Garofalo, Robert Forrester, Harris Yulin, Tim Blake Nelson, Matthew Broderick, just to name a few.

I got to play a tourist in a few scenes, so I’m happy. The crew treated us very well, and it was a bonding experience for those familiar faces on crew/cast in our growing film community.

Here’s the imdb link

It was on Father’s Day, that I received some dollar store paintbrushes.

I decided to experiment with watercolors and attempt my favorite: Adam West as Batman. Here is the sequence…

Curse of the Werewolf painting

Ghoul Mourning, Maniacs!!

I decided to do another watercolor painting. I chose Oliver Reed, in

Curse of the Werewolf, because its such a cool Lycanthrope film, and well, Oliver Reed was a badass!! This took two sessions. It’s 9×12 mixed media paper.

Das Boot jokes? Yes, yes I did

I’ve been AXED if I ever write jokes that aren’t horror related. Get your rim shots ready and try these—-

The film Das Boot, is scheduled for a revival or a reBOOT. It’s a

CONVERSE-ly themed effort. I hear that THOM MCAN will lead this effort. In fact, he has a few SKECHERS in the art department. BUSTER BROWN will star in it, among a very diverse cast, so they can strike a NEW BALANCE. They are adding a few animals, like pair of PUMAS. It’s my understanding that they TOE the line. A Christmas song will be used in a scene- I hear it’s called, “O, Holey NIKE.” There may be an element or two of the original film, so it can fit in a SUB genre. It’s certain to be a HEEL good film!

There, how’s that?!

Painting- Aurora Glow-in-the-dark Wolfman tribute

Ghoul Mourning, Maniacs!!

When I was a Little Monster, I’d love to visit the local Hens & Kelly store. Zipping past whatever was on the ground floor was the plan, to ride the escalator- making that right hook turn at the top, to the toy section! It wasn’t a huge section, but it held some amazing stuff!! I distinctly remember the Gabriel-/Marx Lone Ranger line and the Aurora glow-in-the-dark kits. The two that truly captured my eye, are the Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Wolfman.

These were painted so incredibly by James Bama and really have had a special place in my heart after all these years.

What I wanted to do, was a series of small paintings, devoted to the box art masterpieces. Granted, I realize that I won’t match Bama, brushstroke by brushstroke. I don’t think that is possible for me. Giving my interpretation and giving my love of these works on canvas is good enough for me.

Here is the sequence of sketching and painting this 11×14 acrylic tribute.
