The Story Continues! TERMS OF TEMPTATION is a New Release!

Here's a peek at my newest! I hope you enjoy it!

TERMS OF TEMPTATION by Lorrie Farrelly

“I SWEAR, MISS CANTRELL, YOU WOULD TRY THE EVERLOVIN' PATIENCE OF A SAINT!"

Bram Killoran heard the comments of the crowd around him as it slowly broke up and people began to wander off in twos and threes, chattering and tut-tutting all the while:

That crazy Cantrell girl’s at it again….
Well, can’t say she don’t have some grit.…
Good thing her brotherTed was here, ‘cause drunk as he is, ol’ Purvis mighta got in a lucky swing an’ fair killed her….
Dunno, reckon that little bit of a thing mighta killed Purvis first, feisty as she is....
Well, I declare, she isn’t a bit like that sweet little twin of hers, you know, and doesn’t that give a body pause….
My oldest boy, Wesley, escorted her to the Harvest Dance last fall, don’t you know, but turned out she spent the whole time bending his poor ear about bighorn sheep – or maybe it was muskrats or weasels or some other such nonsense, but can you even imagine…?
Heard she’s got pens full of grizzly cubs and wolves up at that menagerie of hers, boxes full of rattlers, too….
Ya ask me, Cap’n an’ Mrs. Cantrell oughta lock that one up an’ throw away the goldurn key….

Bram hadn’t cared about any of that, though he’d discovered soon enough that there’d been a definite kernel of truth in those remarks. Still, he couldn’t stop thinking about her, dreaming about her.

And he was no saint.

Tender and touching, TERMS OF TEMPTATION continues the lives and loves of the Cantrell and Devlin families, and has all the drama, adventure, suspense and romance readers enjoyed in TERMS OF SURRENDER and TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT.

5-Star Reviews for THE GUARDIAN'S ANGEL and TIMELAPSE

Many thanks to LINDA TONIS of the Paranormal Romance Guild for her reviews:

5*****
Book:THE GUARDIAN'S ANGEL
Author: Lorrie Farrelly
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services Genre: Thriller
Rating: Adult

This is only the second book by Ms. Farrelly I have read, and as with the first book I loved it. This is a thriller that leaves you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last.

Elizabeth Driscoll was the victim of a sadistic killer, only she was lucky and lived. At the police lineup, Libby was able to identify her attacker, but something unexpected happened. She and one of the men in it seemed to have a bond. They could hear and see each other even with no sound on, and with a one way mirror. This man was Detective J.D. McCammon; three years later he and Libby would once again meet up.

Libby's attack changed her to the point that she was always fearful and couldn't stand being touched by a man. She has been working as a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist, working with kids no one knew what to do with. It is her work with these children that has brought J.D. to her door.

His best friend and his wife's murders were witnessed by their five year old son, Tommy. Tommy was diagnosed at the age of two with childhood autism, but was beginning to make progress until the murder. As Tommy's godfather and legal guardian, J.D. is determined to help him and he needs Libby's help. Tommy has reverted back to his prior behavior, barely speaking, wetting himself and having screaming tantrums.

In addition to his current condition, Tommy is the only witness to his parent's murder, making him a target. Libby takes a leap of faith and agrees to accompany J.D. to a safe house where she will work with Tommy. Her feelings for Tommy and J.D. have now progressed past patient and doctor. She begins to love Tommy and, apparently, J.D., as well. J.D. and Libby still maintain the bond they had three years ago. They can read each other's thoughts and speak to each other with only their minds.

J. D. loves Tommy with all his heart and is willing to do anything to keep him safe. With Libby's help, he feels sure that they are going to make it, until they are attacked, and J.D. is shot. Libby kills the assassin who turns out to be a cop, proving that there is an inside man either at the police station or the D.A.'s office. Together they set out for a cabin in California that is owned by J.D.'s sister, where they hopefully will be safe until the killers are caught.

The author has written such a great story and it is so descriptive, making you feel as if you are the one in danger. Twists and turns abound and you don't want to put the book down until you find out what happens. Do they make it? Is there is a future for J.D., Libby and Tommy? Can Libby help Tommy recover? All questions are answered but you will have to read the book to find out.

Book: TIMELAPSE
Author: Lorrie Farrelly
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services Genre: Sci-Fi/Time Travel
Rating: Adult

When Alex Morgan's car was hit by a drunk driver, causing his pregnant wife's death, he thought his world had ended. Doctors, able to save his unborn son, gave him his only reason to live. Alex has devoted the last four years to raising his son, Jack. What he never expected, was his life turning into a nightmare.

Alex is an Assistant Professor in American History at Capital University in Georgetown. He has been given a small office that once belonged to Professor Casterson, now on leave. A call to his home one night about a break-in at his office brings Alex back to the University to clean up and check what is missing. He finds what appears to be a cell phone, but it actually turns out to be some sort of time device.

Knocked out, Alex wakes up to find himself in what he assumes is the future. Nothing is familiar, and he is once again in his office at the University, only this time troopers are shooting at everyone in sight, including him.

Doing the only thing he can think of, he manages to get hold of a trooper's uniform and is about to steal a van. The van is a transport for prisoners, and he finds himself rescuing a young boy. The young boy in question turns out to be a young woman. She is Jessie O'Neil, part of the Freedom Brigade, a resistance group trying to bring back the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

Alex faces one surprise after another: America is under Martial Law, the President is in office for life, public displays of affection are forbidden and his parents were never married, and therefore, he never existed. Is his wife Casey alive? Is his son Jack alive?

Amazingly, Alex discovers that he is in the right time but the wrong world. People live in fear. Soldiers can shoot and kill as they want. People accused of crimes are hung in public. Famous museums and monuments no longer exist.

As Jessie and Alex try to hide from the troopers looking for her, they begin to having feelings other than fear; they are falling in love. Alex knows that the device he has is the answer to changing the world as it is today, if he can figure out how to work it. How far back does he have to go? Can he undo the damage that caused the United States to be what it is? If he changes things does that mean that Jessie would no longer be in his life? Will he get his son back?

This is a fascinating book with amazing characters. Jessie is only twenty-two and yet is willing to put her life on the line for a better world. Alex is willing to do whatever it takes to get his son back and bring the United States back to its former glory. It is a story of courage, people risking it all to fight for peace. I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put the book down until the end.

Children and Animals in Romance Novels

I found a very interesting discussion today, suggested by CHERYL PIERSON on the Western Historical Romance Book Club site: What do authors think about including kids and animals as characters in their novels?

Well, I'm not sure I could write a novel WITHOUT kids and/or animals. Sometimes the children are main characters: Robbie in TERMS OF SURRENDER, Gracie Rose, Scottie, and all the Cantrell children in TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT (especially Kinley, whose own story will be coming up in TERMS OF TEMPTATION); Tommy in THE GUARDIAN'S ANGEL; and Lindy and Oscar in DANGEROUS. Sometimes they are minor characters, like Jack in TIMELAPSE or Shayla in DANGEROUS, but they are always important.

I believe how people treat animals and children reveals character. Strength combined with tenderness is, to me, irresistibly appealing!

Writing animals into my stories whenever possible gives me such pleasure: Jet, Captain Michael Cantrell's trusty – if ornery – horse; Peggy, the little injured shepherd, rescued along with her pups by Michael's brother-in-law, Dr. Rob Devlin; Copper Penny, a rehabilitated mare, and her foster colt Zipper, who touch gruff cop Cam Starrett's heart.

In my work-in-progress, TERMS OF TEMPTATION, animals are even more integral to the story. Kinley Cantrell, Michael and Annie's headstrong daughter, is a pioneer in the care of injured and orphaned wildlife. When stubborn, spirited Kinley challenges rugged Deputy Game Warden Bram Killoran, sparks fly!

The LOOK Challenge

I've been tagged by Cindy Nord and Peggy L. Henderson in the LOOK Challenge, a game writers play to remind us to keep an eye out for the overused word and replace it with something more evocative when appropriate. (Plus, the game lets us show off snippets of our works in progress.)

The rules of the Look Challenge require those who’ve been tagged to find the first occurrence of “look” in their work in progress, and then post that sentence and the surrounding paragraph(s).

Here's my contribution, coming from the Prologue of my 3rd book in the "TERMS OF...." series. (Working title: TERMS OF TEMPTATION). In the Prologue, we catch up with the Cantrell family on their Wyoming ranch in 1895. Young Kinley Cantrell is on the cusp of adolescence, and she's kicking up more trouble every day. It won't be long before she's all grown up, and Deputy Game Warden Bram Killoran won't know what hit him!

I hope you enjoy this preview of my newest work-in-progress, TERMS OF TEMPTATION!

Devlin-Cantrell Ranch
Fremont County, Wyoming
June 1895

“Oh, no! Kinley Mae Cantrell, this time you have gone too far! For the love of heaven, please tell me that is not what I think it is!”

With a gasp, twelve-year-old Kinley shot a startled glance over her shoulder, scrambled quickly to her feet in the small corner pen. Her mother stood not six feet away, egg basket in hand, an all-too-familiar look of exasperated affection and genuine alarm on her face. Preoccupied with the latest addition to her collection of abandoned and injured creatures who were currently squawking, bleating, snuffling, chirping, mewling, or grunting in the snug old calf barn, she hadn’t heard her mother’s quiet steps.

“What, Mama?” Kinley bluffed, wild blue eyes hugely innocent, smile too bright, sunny braids askew. But her practically-new flannel shirt and split denim riding skirt were stained and disheveled, one sleeve sporting a long, dirty, ragged tear spotted with blood.

Annie Cantrell sighed, propped her free hand on her hip. She leveled her sternest look at the frequently wayward daughter who reminded her far too often of herself. She raised her voice to be heard over the noisy menagerie.

“You cannot even think to keep that animal, Kinley. You know very well it is a danger to us all, not to mention the stock. Whatever has gotten into that head of yours?”

The young girl’s whole body strained forward in instant, passionate protest. “But, Mama, it’s just a kitten! A baby! It’s not hurting anything!” At her mother’s deepening frown, she added hastily, “Ma’am.”

A beat too late, she thought to use her boot heel to scuff a bit more concealing straw over the squirming little pile of spotted tawny fur on the floor just behind her.

The squirming, chirping, growling little pile of fur.
