Across the Beer Bar with GINA GORDON!

Welcome to my Beer Bar Gina! What can I pour you to start?
Oh, I definitely picked the right woman to sit down with today!!  I love your Tap Room.  I'll try some of your Wolverine Winter Lager please.
Good choice, it's my best seller and nice place to begin your craft beer journey.
Tell us a little about Passionate Ink. How did you get involved?
Passionate Ink is the Erotic Romance chapter of the Romance Writers of America (RWA). We're a group of smut writers (: It's a forum where published and unpublished writers can mingle and share knowledge. I became Vice President of the chapter and Contest Coordinator in 2011 and will continue through 2012.  It's been a very positive experience so far and we have a dedicated and hard working Board of Directors. But I will say I was bullied into it. LOL It isn't something I would have pursued on my own so I thank my friend Cristal Ryder--the PI President--for coercing me.
I must say, Her 5 Favorite Words has one of THE hottest covers around.  Tell us about those words....
Justyn Perry did a fantastic job with my cover!! As for the 5 words, they are the 5 least sexy words on the planet LOL. Everyone thinks the words have something to do with sex but they don't. I won't give them away (: but they are my 5 favorite words! Can't go a day without saying them.
Huh, mine would be:BeerSex.....um.....anywayHow many books have you had published?
I've had 2 short stories and 2 novellas published with Breathless Press and 3 novellas published with Lyrical Press.
I see you got in with Entangled. Congrats.  I think they are among the hottest e publishers around. I have a little stack of rejections with their name on it (sad face). And for the record I LIKE the title Fire and Icing.  Good luck with them. I'm sure they will really launch you into the stratosphere.  Tell us about the cupcake inspiration.
Thanks! I'm so happy to finally sign a contract with Entangled. Took me a while (:  They have a very welcoming and supportive group of authors and I'm really excited about the direction the company is going.
As for my inspiration, on my list of favorite things in the world are cupcakes. The heroine in my novel, Liv, is actually following my secret dream. If I wasn't a writer, I'd be baking cupcakes.

I also have set a 5-year goal of getting a NY contract.  But honestly, I wonder, do we need one?  Tell me why you think you do.
Gah! It's a tricky question in a tricky business. But a business that I love. Romance readers have embraced ebooks so wholeheartedly and so many authors make a living writing ebooks. Personally, I think you have to dip your pen into more than one avenue. Digital and NY print or Self publishing and Digital. The choice is yours. And that's the best part about this industry right now, the possibility. You just have to make sure that you're making the right decision for you…not what you think you should be doing.
oh my, empty glass---what's next in there for you?
I'll try another one of your brews please.  How about the California Common.Good choice....I'll have another Gulo Gulo myself...
Yeah, Justin Timberlake: Hunk thank you very much.
LOL JT is a major hunk. He's definitely on my freebie 5 (:
Ahem, Did you get your Mac?
I DID!! And I'm in love!!
How long have you been writing/getting published?
I have been published since 2010 and I made the decision to seriously write for publication in 2009.  To be honest, writing has always been in the back of my mind and I wrote a lot when I was a younger when the real world didn't get in the way.
What is coming up next for you?
Well, I have my contemporary romance novel coming out with Entangled Publishing in late 2012. I'm also working on a few category romances so we'll see where that leads.
nightcap time! what's your poison?
Hmmm….can I stick with beer? That one went down well (:

I'll pour you a special from our secret stash of bourbon barrel aged Oktoberfest....divine.thanks for stopping by! best of luck! you are one of my favorites I will admit it---keep us posted on your progress.
I will! Thanks so much for having me Liz. Your beer is delicious!
Contest: 1 lucky person will win all three novellas in my Bare Naked Designs series.  All you have to do is comment on this posting. Be sure to leave your e-mail address.

Forever In Lingerie
How far would you go to hold on to forever?

Martina Jackson spent the last two years running from her past. Through the practice of Holistic Medicine she has meticulously transformed into a self-fulfilled woman, with one tiny exception…hot, steamy sex with no strings.

While she waits for the job offer of a lifetime, why not quench her sexual desires with an eager man willing to push her to the limit? What she doesn't plan for is, the fling is exactly what she's been running from.

Rob Taylor has been waiting his whole life to find the woman he can call forever. He didn't expect to find her in his parents' living room wearing nothing but white lace and stockings. When he overhears her discussing her secret sexual fantasies, Rob decides to give her what she's been missing.

As they play out each fantasy he connects with Martina on a deeper level, confirming what he knew the very first moment he heard her voice…that she is the one he's been waiting for.

Content warning; explicit sex, ménage and the use of Holistic Medicine as foreplay.
Temptation In Lingerie
Are you willing to risk it all and give in to temptation?Carrie Taylor can't believe her luck.  Along with her own lingerie line she's now the proud owner of Satin and Lace, a specialty lingerie store.  She has everything she's ever wanted...except Aleks Turko.  After a lifetime spent pining over the man she can never have, Carrie decides to take back her love life.  Vowing to get him out of her system once and for all, she propositions Aleks for a one night stand.Growing up without a mother and with an uncommunicative father, Aleks Turko sought comfort in the arms of the Taylor family. As an adult, he now has everything he needs - a second family, good friends, and a bottomless barrel of women. But over the last few months vivid, sexual thoughts about Carrie have become a regular occurrence.  He's managed to keep his urges at bay, but when he walks in on her wearing one of her lacy designs, all bets are off. When what was supposed to be a one-time affair snowballs into a battle of wills, Carrie and Aleks must decide if they should risk everything and give in to temptation.Contains explicit language, sex and an unorthodox use of a fitting room.
Bound In Lingerie
Being bound together was never part of the plan.
Amie Woods is living the life she wants, but her search for a man who can keep up with her sexual demands has tested her faith in Happily Ever After. Milton Campbell bears the weight of the world on his shoulders, but when he has the opportunity to re-ignite old friendships, it reminds him of a time in his life when he knew how to have fun.
When the two meet, sparks fly--and not the good kind. Their dislike for one another is second only to the sexual attraction simmering between them. A twist of circumstance lands them in the same bed, and Milton jumps at the opportunity to put his pleasure in Amie's hands. A two-week fling might be exactly what he needs to bring back his love of life, and Amie can't throw away the opportunity to be herself--both in and out of the bedroom.
At first, they seemed all wrong for each other. But when "casual" builds into something more, Amie and Milton must decide if they're willing to risk being bound together by love.
Contains explicit language, sex and a torturous strip tease in leather.

Gina Gordon loves spinning contemporary tales of knee-bending first kisses, unconditional love and super-hot sex scenes. She loves all things cupcakes and is addicted to Starbucks.  Gina lives in Toronto, Canada with her husband and lovable dog. You can reach Gina at gina@ginagordon.net.

Romance Much? Roni Loren Does

Brewing Passion welcomes author Roni Loren...

What Is the Perfect Romantic Evening?
As a romance author, I spend a lot of time thinking about "perfect romantic evenings" for my characters. And because I write erotic romance with BDSM themes, my characters version of "perfect" may be very different (and much more fun) than your typical dinner and a movie. : )
But really, even if the elements may vary, I think most of us want the same basics underpinning a romantic evening: spending quality time with the person we love, a little fun, a little letting loose, and if you're so inclined, some sexy time. :)
So what is my perfect romantic evening?
My husband learned early on in our relationship that even though I'm a hopeless romantic, I'm not your typical girl. Flowers and candlelight dinners and all that jazz…*shrug*. Not my thing. (I'm also not into handbags, shoes, or jewelry so I really stumped him on Christmas gifts there in the beginning too, lol.)
So the stereotypical romantic night would probably bore me. What would I rather have instead? Here are a few components:
•   Really excellent food - I'm a bit of a foodie, and I've managed to turn hubs into one as well. So going out to a really great dinner would definitely be on the list. Now this doesn't mean a fancy dinner. Finding a place that makes the perfect street taco and good guacamole would be fine by me.
•   Music - One of my favorite things to do is go to concerts. Hubs and I tend to mark years by what bands we saw that year. So going to see some band we both love would be the perfect activity. Not sure who I'd pick for the *perfect* concert. Our tastes are wide. The last concert we saw was Motley Crue, the next will be Kelly Clarkson, lol. We're weird. But if I had to choose, I'd say a band like Buckcherry or Foo Fighters. (See how romantic I am? Nothing says I love you like loud rock music.) LIZ NOTE: I went a Foos concert with my teenagers--in the Mosh Pit!  It rocked. I highly recommend it.•   Overnight babysitter - I have a four-year-old who I love to pieces, but if we're talking perfect romantic evening, we'd have the kidlet spending the night somewhere else, lol.
•   Sleeping In - And there would be no 7am wake up call the next day.
Ahh, doesn't that sound lovely? : )
So what does your perfect romantic evening look like?
CRASH INTO YOU Blurb: Brynn LeBreck has dedicated herself to helping women in crisis, but she never imagined how personal her work would get, or where it would take her. Her younger sister is missing, suspected to be hiding from cops and criminals alike at a highly secretive BDSM retreat—a place where the elite escape to play out their most extreme sexual fantasies. To find her Brynn must go undercover as a sexual submissive. Unfortunately, The Ranch is invitation only. And the one Master who can get her in is from the darkest corner of Brynn's past.
Brynn knows what attorney Reid Jamison is like once stripped of his conservative suit and tie. Years ago she left herself vulnerable only to have him crush her heart. Now she needs him again. Back on top. And he's all too willing to engage. But as their primal desires and old wounds are exposed, the sexual games escalate—and so does the danger.  Their hearts aren't the only things at risk. Someone else is watching, playing by his own rules. And his game could be murder.

CRASH INTO YOU: A Review.
I love a guy who knows he's f$#@ed up.  Really, to me there is not much sexier than an Alpha male who's made mistakes and is ready to make amends.
Probably why I was so taken with Reid Jamison. He knows how to top, and how to love but at a crucial moment in his past, he threw it all away. Now he's getting a second chance and then some with Brynn.
But does she want him back? Brynn has been through hell and back, and while she's tempted, she has to guard her heart and her body (she thinks) from danger--represented by the "rich boy" she once dated.
Crash Into You is a well-crafted story, with believable characters (a must for this reader), compelling plot with just enough heat to keep you reading well into the night (I know I did).
The whole BDSM genre is super hot right now, and it's easy to see why. The psychology of Dom/sub relationships is complex, and presenting it fairly, correctly and without any "ick" factor is tough--I've read plenty of stuff that failed miserably at that. Ms. Loren not only captures the crucial details of "how to" but also the deeper issues of "why" when it comes to two people seeking satisfaction and trust together.
There is a moment at the end when I lost a plot thread, forcing me to go back and re-read. It was a minor thing, but if I have to do that I can't give a perfect rating. Of course, it WAS 2 in the morning because I couldn't put the book down---but when I did go back to it it still took several readings for me to be sure what went on in an older generation to lead Brynn and her sister into danger later.
And be prepared for an amazing "oh YES!" moment--in the rain.Nicely done.
I give CRASH INTO YOU 4.5 pints.

CRASH INTO YOU Excerpt:
*CRASH INTO YOU is told in chapters alternating between the present and ten years earlier. This is from a "past" chapter.*"That's one of the things I like about you. You don't seem to give a damn about who my family is, so I can just relax around you."She laughed. "Yeah, once I found out you couldn't fire me, you lost all shot of me kissing your ass."He slipped a hand onto her hip and pulled her closer, their bodies almost touching. "So what's your stance on kissing other things?"Every muscle in her body strained to move forward, to close the sliver of distance between them, but she held still. "Probably not a good idea since we work together."He smiled and shook his head. "See, you're always such a half-empty kind of girl. Working together means we'll get paid to hang out with each other.""And everybody in the office will think I'm hanging out with you for the wrong reasons."He shrugged. "That's why we don't tell. It's none of their business anyway."She chewed her lip. "I like you, Reid, but I don't know . . . it's just complicated. I've got a lot—"He put a finger over her mouth, hushing her. "Stop overthinking things, Brynn. It doesn't have to be so complex. I know you don't bullshit, so I'm not going to either. Since the first day I met you, I haven't stopped thinking about what it would be like to touch you." He cupped her chin and ran his thumb over her lips. "To taste you. I leave the office every day fighting a hard-on because just hearing your voice sets me off."She swallowed hard, the blunt words and his finger on her lips throwing gasoline on the flickering flame of longing she'd been fighting since they'd left the office."So in about three seconds, I'm going to kiss you. If you don't want that, you tell me to stop, and I'll never try again." He curled his hand around the back of her neck, his gaze tattooing her. "One . . . two . . ."

Author Bio: Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven't improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she'll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son. If she's not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that's it. Her debut novel, CRASH INTO YOU, will be published by Berkley Heat January 3, 2012.

Hot Hot Heat ... From The Realtors

Welcome Back Six Sentencers!
Jack and Sara area at it again---dancing around his need to top and her need to let him.
The Realtors: Life in the House Lane a series beginning with FLOOR TIME releases end of January.

Jack teased the hard nubs of her nipples with both thumbs. The small sounds she made drove him insane but he kept control, held back. "I'm going to make you come Sara, but you can't until I tell you--do you understand?" He could feel her need, smell her lust and it made him grit his teeth against the urgency to toss her on the floor and fuck her. No, he had to do this. See if he still could, see if she would.

Burning up the Beer Bar With Cassandre Dayne!

welcome to my Tap Room Cassandra (or Bethany, whichever you prefer)! what can I pour you to start?
You can call me Cassandre or Bethany or DH or Dakotah or… I won't tell you the OTHER names I've been called. I use Bethany for an all around name such as my work with Rebel Ink and now some conferences as well as a blog talk radio show I host. I also write a paranormal series as Bethany but we aren't going to drag HER into the public eye yet.
Damn, the woman has so many personalities she forgot I want to pour her a drink.Ahem: Here *pushes glass of amber goodness across the bar* It's my "District 16 Vienna Lager" that is so popular we about to re-brand the sucker and release it in bottles this fall giving me a trifecta of color on store shelves!

You are one of the most prolific authors I know, all your regular releases getting instant silver stars and great reviews including a recent acknowledgement in Queer Magazine Online, if I'm not mistaken....So we newbies don't claw our own eyeballs out with jealousy, give us an idea of your trajectory. That is, how long did it take you to get to this point?
Hmm – well I honestly did start writing when I was five BUT having said that I stopped and started again until 3 years ago. I then broke free with ideas and thoughts and started writing. It was crap in the beginning and I do mean that. But I had a wonderful editor from Ellora's Cave – who I thought was the cat's meow at the time – take her time with me over emails after I had submitted like nine pieces and she thought I had talent but needed to really work on my craft. So she suggested everything from joining the local chapter of the RWA – which I did to Passionate Ink and enter contests to get feedback – which I did and I slowly started seeing what she was saying.
In September of 2010 when I had a request from Carl Franklin – those of you who know Rebel know he's the talented cover artist – after he kept seeing me post bits and blurbs to try Rebel. I did and was accepted the next day. E from Rebel has spent a great deal of time with me and I keep (I think so anyway) getting better. What I can tell you is that I still get not so great reviews and not every piece gets a silver star – I can't get one for a HET piece to save my life other than with DH and Dakotah – but they are different genres. You can't take every review as an end or not receiving silver stars as anything but the flavor of the day. What you have to realize is that I do feel MORE pressure now that I seem to have successes to be better and better and sometimes its about what people want to read.
I am blessed by Queer Magazine and part of my accolades is because I support gay rights and write about it with love and I think total support. In addition being a part of Passionate Ink and giving back as President Elect means a hell of a lot to me. I want to help other writers – cause this business is TOUGH.And you my dear are one of the few out there who has made it and have no problem reaching down to yank the rest of us up by the shorties.  A rarity in any industry.
And what do you to daily to maintain your visibility in a sea of fellow erotica writers?  I keep on plugging and helping and reminding writers they can do this and never stopping. It's constant. I also listen to my readers when they tell me what they want to see.
Whew, I am thirsty again.  What about you? Wine please – red in colorDEAR GOD THIS IS A BEER BAR. Are you people DEAF?  Sigh...here, I like red wine too there fore I GUARANTEE you will love this deep, roasty, toasty Baltic Porter aged for 6 months in bourbon barrels.  Drink it. Trust me,  by day I'm a Beer Wench.
What is your absolute favorite story you ever wrote? And what about your least favorite? (not based on sales, but on your opinion).
Favorite might be either Treats in a Plain Brown Wrapper – cause it was the first sold and the hubster thought of the title and the idea based on my real life UPS man who's all chocolate and yummy. I love PINKED too because of what I do for a regular living – managing community associations. Least favorite – hmmm – Game Over – and only because it was too frivolous for my first m/m piece but it was well received.
What do you do when you are not writing?
What's not writing? I love my dogs and cooking and playing outside.
What is the last book you finished?
Just hot off the presses to Naughty Nights Press – the first in a new trilogy called Bad Things – Hunger   were tigers, faith healers and BDSM – imagine…Okay enough with the "weres" already.  I am the only one weary of shifter?  Guess so. But this is my blog and I'll admit it here. Vampires I will take more of, thank you and pass the alpha male.
I have to say I'm intrigued by this one you are calling an m/m/m/m/m/m/f story...."unleashed" tell us about it.
It's a bisexual piece – three men loving and living together and a woman who suits their fancy BUT – this started out to be kinda frivolous and then it took off to a dark place. She was abused in her marriage and wrote about all her dark cravings in a diary. Her best friend knew she needed to be dragged out of her private hell but what she didn't know is that in doing so she brought our hero back into his remembrances of sexual slavery so… It's one of those books.I cannot wait. So many of your books contain a dark element about the human condition--I love 'em.
time for a nightcap...what's your poison?
I enjoy cabernet, vodka and sambucca – what about you?*Gets up from bar stool and walks away lest I be tempted to smack my lovely guest. She'd like it anyway.*BEERBARso no, no vodka, wine or any other half assed liquor.  Here: shoves brandy snifter of deep golden beverage. I've been saving it for a special occasion. An honest to God all English IPA made with maris otter malt (look it up, it's rare and expensive hence the small glass) and fuggle hops (again, this is what "Wikkipedia" is for).  An amazing balance of bitter and sweet.thanks Cass you are the best and one who has helped many of us rooks along the way. Thanks so much and keep up the great work. We are not worthy.

HEARTS FORGED IN FIRE
For rancher Zeke Parker every day was difficult. Not only was Rattlesnake Ranch falling on hard times but he couldn't get over the horrible grief plaguing him for over a year. The death of his lover David had nearly stripped away his soul. As Valentine's Day drew near his sister Sandi was determined to drag him out of his private hell. Agreeing to be a part of a charity auction for the humane society one date with a wealthy woman wasn't going to kill him. During dinner at Sandi's house he met movie producer Drake Wilson, who was scouting locations for an upcoming movie, and sparks flew.
Seeing David's horse Milly and her strong reactions to the mysterious man, Zeke was intrigued. After an impetuous moment of heat both men were skittish and each had their reasons for pulling back. It seemed Cupid had other ideas in mind. When a rouse brought the two men together passion roared between them but damning secrets were too much for either to deal with. Just as Zeke was determined to give up on love forever Cupid intervened again and this time, the arrow went straight through his heart.

and
RUSTLING DANGER
It was cowboy country in Colorado and while Julia Barnes loved her new home she had a job to do and one that would expose several prominent members of the protected ranching community. Several of the ranchers were selling their souls to the devil and allowing their cattle to be slaughtered for scientific experiments while they hid behind their laurels. She was incensed and her expose would surely stop the horrendous actions. Meeting the main suspect wasn't what she'd expected and when she and the infamous Tray Masters had an intimate moment Julia was furious. It didn't matter her best friend wanted the two of them together. Tray was the enemy.
Unfortunately someone wanted Julia dead. Threats had been coming for weeks but when they escalated to the point she was forced to turn to her sworn enemy for help she was left rattled. What neither of them knew was that there was a master plan in the making and one they had no control over. With the help of Tray's best friend and the lawman in town, Steven Sanders, they were able to slip into hiding but both men held a terrible secret and one that threatened not only their livelihood but their very lives. The two men were secret lovers. Amidst a backdrop of lies and deceit Julia was faced with her ultimate enemy. As the three raced to find answers after finding a level of passion none of them realized, they were forced to face several ugly truths. In the end too many lives would be lost. Could they save each other or succumb to the madman who held the key to a tragic past?

View from The Strip (Adventures in Vegas Part 3)

Some say you can't go back an recapture a perfect moment.

I disagree.

Three years ago my life was at a crossroads. I had discovered things about myself and my nearly 20-year marriage that would set the most stable person reeling. I had worked hard to lose 40 pounds, get control over the various threads of "projects," distilling and parlaying them into a successful life as brewery owner and budding writer.

Sure there were elements I couldn't control---any of you who have teenagers in your house know what I'm talking about.

But about that time, my spouse, perhaps out of sheer desperation, suggested we go to Las Vegas in November. He had a conference to attend. I could tag along, sit by the pool, "Relax" which is still a slightly foreign word to me. I said yes and weeks of pre-planning soccer carpools, la crosse and football practice schedules and menus for the kids (and valium for me mum as she would be "in charge "for a week) later I arrived. Wide-eyed with sheer possibility and rarin' to to soak up every ounce of crazed, forbidden energy only a place like Las Vegas can provide.
I love street performers!

I did. We hit an exclusive strip club, 2 Cirque shows, made new friends at various bars, danced at one of the craziest, movie-set looking night clubs I'd ever experienced, got massages, and various other pamperings best left to your heated imagination (I said I wanted the full bore Vegas thing and my spouse was bound and determined that I would, bless him.)

It was, in a word, perfect. That moment. Hard to repeat.

We returned in January, just a few short weeks later, picked up where we left off, and dove head first into electronics and porn. The Consumer Electronics Show is usually dovetailed with the Adult Video Network (AVN) convention, and the town is rife with geeks and porn stars.  Truly epic. We met some, partied with others and had yet another Perfect Vegas Vacation. Note: Ron Jeremy IS as ugly as he appears. But a fun guy.

We're on our 3rd year here now and things have calmed somewhat. I don't have the burning need to prove how bloody wild I am that I did then, and actually look forward to the hours spent in quiet, in the spa gym, on the massage table, and, of course, at the laptop pecking out whatever blog posts and editing jobs need tending to.

It's still a week long effort of planning kids' schedules, meals, shopping, prepping every body mentally for mom and dad being off the reservation for a solid week.

But I would not miss it for the world, and love to see how it evolves every year. Yeah, we'll hit the strip club. I fucking love the human condition in those places and am pretty popular, usually scoring my own lovely girlfriend right away (once they get a load of the spouse's credit card of course). But it's more than that. Vegas is the most over the top experience going. And I feel fairly confident I can say that, having lived in three different countries, vacationing in five others, getting passports stolen in Spain, the Gendarme "arresting" me in Turkey and the entire fire department of Hiroshima showing up at my flat in Japan--among other, even more stressful events. (see "marital turning point" above).

It's hard to believe people actually LIVE here, but they do and I like getting to know the bartenders and black jack dealers hearing their stories and perhaps even translating them to the page.
I always find a hot brewer and some stainless steel to stand around!

After three years at this, we now have friends we call this crazy place home and who drag us around to "off the beaten track" places that will, truly, blow your mind. Vegas Ver. 3.0 is gonna be a blast!

Wish me luck!
Love
Liz

Six from The Realtors...Releasing soon!

All you "Jack and Sara" fans from the summer TAKE HEART! The story will emerge at the end of the month. In the meantime, feast your eyes on this telling moment in the head of one Super Alpha, Jack Gordon, the reluctant Dom...

He clicked off the music, closed his laptop and headed out the door to his next appointment, feeling at the top of his game, but with a small, annoying tickle in the back of his brain still whispering Sara's name. Brushing a hand over his already rough jaw, he pondered his options. One thing was clear. It was time to act. He tamped down the urge to take the direct route, scoop her up for a nice long weekend of bonding at his house. No, she needed to realize that she wanted it first.

Be sure and check out more from the many talented writers at Six Sentence Sunday!

Why I Write. No. Really.

An average day, with a to-list that includes edits, promotions and a little work on that WIP that's been tickling my ear since Hans (bless him) whispered while rubbing my shoulders...."Soccer studs, m/m, Las Vegas..."

And for me, an average day includes review of sales goals, writing beer press releases, updating beer websites and other Really Sexy Small Business Ownership crap, like figuring out why the brewery drain has backed up and caused a small but fairly destructive flood behind the bar of the tap room (it was a bit of holiday greenery, stuck way down in it. Gross. and a huge mess).

If you are a regular follower of Liz on Her Various and Sundry blog posts about her "craft" and "process" you already know however that I am officially OCD when it comes to big projects.  I get a plot stirring around in my head and I gotta get it OUT. I have a big editing/revision project and I must shut off all outside influences including the Evil that is Facebook and Twitter and just focus until the damn thing is done.

I spent the last two days obsessing in my special way over an R&R (jargon alert: Revision and Resubmission) project for one of my targeted marque publishers for 2011.  I am determined to get this story accepted and am feeling good about its prospects, especially and most importantly thanks to the assistance of professional editors (get some of those if you can).

Done with that for the time being I log onto Goodreads and find....not much in the way of excitement for the  books I have already ripped my guts out over in terms of time spent ignoring the hell out of family and friends. And a continual drip drip drip of stories I could never write getting all the kudos and reviews and listings on "best of" sites.

By the end of yesterday I had fallen firmly into a "If it don't gots vamps, weres, demons, succubi, m/m/m/m/m cowboy ranches with BDSM barns and a female virgin who needs to discover how to orgasm, or isn't on a pirate or space ship---don't bother. Just give it away" funk from which I am still only just now recovering.

It's how it works as a writer. I know. But it made me get back to a small kernel of argument-inducing "discussion" initiated by my DH a few months ago as he observed me falling ever deeper into the hole of single-minded creativity. "Why do you write?"

For yourself?
To prove something to someone?
To bring pleasure to a close knit circle of friends you've conned into being readers?
To make money?
To be famous?

My goals have shifted considerably since I've discovered the extreme buzz one gets reading a good review, or opening an email stating "The AE had to write your acceptance notice through tears it was so great."

I once wrote for fun, for personal pleasure and as a "simple" creative outlet on this very blog.

I now feel pummeled by markets (as in "what sells" of which I am aware--see my funk from yesterday), pressure for ever more great reviews, more books and more blog posts that no one will read.

It's a road I gladly travel, don't get me wrong. But after staring at the ceiling last night, angry at self and spouse I woke this morning with a different set of goals.

1.  To enjoy the process
2.  When I don't enjoy the process to stop, walk away and come back later (i.e. Lose the OCD affect)
3.  To write down those plot worms that burrow in my brain and I keep up there until I'm ready to explode and MUST WRITE FOR HOURS. No. Get 'em out in note form and come back later.
4.  To stop obsessing over the fact that for every one great review and happy reader I get there are about 10,000 more who have no desire to read about the real people I write, even if they brew beer, sell houses or live in exotic locales. If a reader wants a hot vampire menage with a demon thrown in on a spaceship that is just what they are gonna read, period.

Please don't misunderstand me all you wildly successful writers of said paranormal, steampunk, sci fi, cowboy multiples with bondage. You guys rock!  I'm just sorting through the 'tweeners dilemma. I'm not a rookie, nor a pro, not yet. Do I write to the market, or write what I love and see who follows.  Keep up the great work. I myself await with bated breath Tohr's fate (but what I REALLY wanna see is if she can pull of the man love thing....I have my doubts).
Oh Hans, you are such an attention hog....

cheers
Liz

No You CAN'T Have Wine In Here! Across the Bar with Karina Buchanan

Welcome to my Tap Room Karina! what can I pour you to start?
Well, normally I'm a wine drinker but since I'm in a beer bar I'll man up! What do you recommend?
That depends on what kind of wine you like.  If you are a robust red drinker like myself, your tastes will likely run along porter or even a hoppy (bitter) line.  I know mine do. Chardonnay drinkers tend to go for my maltier, lighter beers. How about we start with a Premium Lager, my best seller, sort of like LaBatts, only better.
You have your first novel releasing this week! How exciting! Tell us your submission story. That is, was this your first sub? the first publisher you tried? How was the process for you?
Daring to Love is out with Breathless Press on 6th January and it's a very exciting, if nerve wracking time! About a year and a half ago, I decided I was actually going to finish a full length novel. (My house is littered with manuscripts I've started and abandoned after the first two chapters) I sent it off in January last year and was absolutely crushed under rejections. The stroppy teenager inside me wanted to pack the writing in there and then but I knew no-one else was going to pursue my dream for me.
(I love the word "Stroppy". Very useful. Learned it AND "gobsmacked" while living in England.  The English have the BEST words for stuff, let me tell you)
Mills and Boon started a comp shortly after, where you had to pitch a story in two paragraphs and I already had the seeds of a new story in my head – a daredevil and a priss miss who seemed so wrong for each other – so I entered. I was one of the few chosen to pitch directly to an editor, who then requested a partial. I sent that and weeks later, they requested the full manuscript! I worked flat out to seize the opportunity but ultimately the story was turned down. The feedback, however, was amazing and she loved my voice. I was disappointed of course but I was also determined and I sent the manuscript off to Breathless Press the following day. I was gobsmacked to be offered a contract straightaway and I finally believed in myself as a writer.
I have to say the road to publication is hard work but I've really enjoyed the process. I look forward to my edits as I always think I'm learning something new with every round.
Do you have other Works in Progress?
I'm determined to rework that first manuscript because I put my heart and soul into it and I love my characters so much. I've also started a new medical story, which, like Daring to Love, is set in Northern Ireland, so I have plenty to keep me busy.
Yeah, don't give up on it. My first project is finally seeing the light of day after 5 rejections, and 2 major rewrites.
Have you ever worked with an editor before in day job perhaps?
This is my first time working with an editor and I'm amazed at how hard they work.
Keep that sucking up mentality dear. It will come in handy….oops your glass is empty, what's next for you?
Mmm, I like the sound of that Wolverine Premium Lager. Does it have a pretty picture on the label?
Uh, No. *shakes head* "pretty pictures. Jesus"But how about we move on to something hoppier. See what you think. I discovered my inner hop-head by accident.
Do you write full time? if not when do you fit it in?
I'm a stay at home Mum, so I write in between school runs and loads of laundry. Such a glamorous life!
What are your writing goals for 2012?
I'm determined to get that first manuscript up to scratch and add more to the one chapter of my medical romance.

Blurb
Andrea Macleave is determined to lose her 'Miss Stuffy Knickers' nickname with a rappel down Ireland's famous Europa Hotel, for the hospital where she works. Risk taking goes against everything she believes in and it takes a kiss from her hunky instructor to send her on her way. With her wild side let loose, a one night stand with the action man seems the perfect antidote to her staid life.
Excerpt
"I should have known you couldn't handle your drink." With the devil in him, Matt pushed the buttons guaranteed to re-activate his Andie.                        A frown, a purse of full pink lips and she took the bait. "I'll have a whiskey if you're buying." The determination to prove him wrong blinded her to the goggled looks she garnered and the sudden quiet at the table.
He couldn't help his smile getting wider, the more irritated she became. "One whiskey, coming up. Jimmy give me a hand getting these in, will you?"
"I've a good mind to get you fired!" Matt hadn't noticed Andrea following him over to the bar. At the sound of her sexy, pissed-off voice, he slowly turned his head.
She stood, ram-rod straight, giving him clear appreciation of long, lean legs. They seemed to go on forever in those spiky black heels she had swapped for her trainers, even if she still had to look up at his six foot four frame. The figure-hugging jeans would bring a grown man to his knees but he would prefer to see her in something to better show off those pins.
The rose tint in her cheeks gave away her embarrassment at being so openly admired and coming across as a letch was not how he wished to be perceived. Nevertheless, he did enjoy throwing her off guard."You should be thanking me really." He wound her up and let her go."Thanking you?" She crossed her arms across her chest, drawing the V of her top down to give a tantalizing peek at her cleavage. "I should have you arrested for the way you behaved, never mind getting you fired.""It got you over the edge, didn't it? You were so caught up, being ticked off at me that you didn't have time to think about what you were doing.""In that case, turn around."            "Why?""So I can slap the gold star on your backside for a job well done! Do you seriously think that's a good enough reason for your behavior? Is that the way you carry on with all your clients?""Only the pretty, obstinate ones. As for having me fired, well," he backed his elbows onto the bar, "I do the charity rappels voluntarily. It's difficult to replace a trained instructor willing to work for free but if I caused you so much offense, do what you must."
Her delicious mouth opened and closed and he was assaulted with memories of tasting her. And how good it would be to do it again.
"Since it's for charity and all, I suppose I'll let the matter drop. Forget it happened." The defensive arms slackened and fell to her sides. With the thaw setting in, Matt impulsively stepped forward, to invade her personal space."Are you sure that's what you want, Andie?" If he could forget his rules for one night, she could stop pretending she didn't want him.
Instead of seeing the look of longing staring back at him, her pupils narrowed. "Where do you get off calling me 'Andie', anyway? My name is Andrea." She lifted the tumbler of the finest whiskey from the bar, knocked it back and stalked back to her friends.
Matt King never was one to back away from a challenge.
I thought you'd appreciate the setting lol I do, dear, well done.  And the English-isms make me smile. "Pins"—so cute.

Time for a nightcap--what's your poison?
Well now, I am Irish and I have a reputation to live up to, so just keep pouring. Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for having me. It's so great in here I might hang around for a little while and if anyone wants to join me they can contact me here:http://karina-buchanan.blogspot.com/http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100002715462350

New Year Press Release: The Realtors Launches New Book Line

FOR ITri Destiny Publishing Announces Launch of Sizzlin' Books Romance Line
Tri Destiny Publishing launches new romance line with a 3-book series by author Liz Crowe
(January 1st, 2012):  Tri Destiny Publishing announces the launch of their new romance line, Sizzlin' Books, kicking off with The Realtor series by Liz Crowe. The new line will be devoted exclusively to romance books which are less traditional with topics ranging from paranormal and supernatural to D/s
relationships, menages, LGBT plots and everything in between.
"We plan to offer our readers the widest range of plots and characters possible.  Tri Destiny prides itself on being the publishing house that focuses on meeting every reader's needs," according to Tri Destiny Partner, Jessica Warth. "We're launching the Sizzlin' Books line with its own website.  Readers who are looking for the traditional romance can still find it on the main Tri Destiny website. However, readers looking for books with more of an edge can visit our Sizzlin' Books site, find a "sizzle scale" and books which  traverse a wide array of topics."
Liz Crowe, author of fan favorites such as the Brewing Passions series, Vegas Miracle and
the Turkish Delights series, will be the flagship author for the new line with the release of The Realtors, a 3-book series set in contemporary Ann Arbor, MI. The series focuses on the interwoven lives and relationships of three realtors over the span of several years.  The first book in the series, "Floor Time," will release later this month.  "Sweat Equity," the second book, will release in mid-February.  The series will wrap up with "Closing Costs," in mid-March.
"Tri Destiny feels privileged to have acquired The Realtors.  It will, without doubt, become a series the fans rave about and beg for more," Jessica adds.  The series' storyline is anything but ordinary and Jessica says it expresses the kind of books she wants to fill their new line; namely those which don't fit the mold of other publishers.  "We want people to come to know Tri Destiny, and especially the Sizzlin' Books, as a place where anything can, and does, happen.  There's no formula here and The Realtors definitely demonstrates that. To have Liz agree to help us launch this new line and entrust us with this series is an honor.  We look forward to this being the beginning of a long-lasting relationship with Liz."

Faker? Not on THIS Blog! Welcome Casey Crow!

Thank you so much for having me today and featuring CAN'T FAKE THIS. I'm so excited to announce my debut has been out since Dec. 6 with Loose, Id to rave reviews. It's funny how things work out. CAN'T FAKE THIS started out on a whim. At the last minute, I decided to enter this 10,000 word contest. I'd written spicy mainstream, but this was my first dive into erotic waters. I didn't win the contest, but after having what I thought was a good start, I added some more words and low and behold, this erotic became the first manuscript I sold.CAN'T FAKE THIS is about a divorcee ready to reenter the dating world. Anna Ryan is determined to be the best "product on the market," which requires a lot more experience so she propositions sexy police officer Chase Harris to teach her how to make hot, passionate love as opposed to just having sex. He takes it a step further, instructing each lesson based on The Twelve Days of Christmas. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…temptation in a hot package. For more, check out the book trailer! The story definitely has my "Sexy, Sassy & Southern" trademark. Here's a sneak peek.
My zipper slid down with a hiss, exposing my bare flesh to the cool air of the room. "Do you know what today is?" I was breathless as the material spilled below my hips.Chase pushed my hair aside, his tongue sweeping every vertebra until he knelt on his knees kissing the small indention of my lower back. "Sunday.""December fourteenth." I needed to be the one on my knees. My legs had turned all Jell-Oy. Yeah, I wasn't an expert in the chemistry department, but even I could sense the spark between us, the hot, electric pull. As his teeth pulled at the peach bow of my G-string, I could already imagine his cock sliding into me. He yanked the dress down and turned me around. My crotch was now at his eye level. I rubbed his shaved head, debating whether I should pull his face to my panties or hike a leg over his shoulder. Or both. I settled for the latter before my weak knees collapsed."It's twelve days till Christmas," I said. The figure eights he licked along my inner thigh made it rather difficult to carry on a coherent conversation."Consider tonight an early present." He swooped in for a taste, or so I thought, as hot air breezed my pussy. Before I knew it, Chase slipped my leg off his shoulder and stood to scoop me into his arms. He lowered me onto the cold leather of the sofa, but the chill disintegrated the moment his warm body stretched over me. His large, dark pupils filled with lust — and dare I say, need? — as his dick throbbed between my legs. I squeezed my thighs, putting pressure on his cock. He let out a low groan while my body strained for more than a tease. I lifted my hips to rub up and down on his shaft. We ground our bodies together, my gaze trapped by his own for a deliciously suspended moment. It never occurred to me this kind of intimacy was odd. I mean, most folks would be kissing and getting it on by now, but after all the exciting tension that had built all night, we suddenly slowed down…to savor. Damn, it was sexy.Zero doubt played in my mind. I wanted this guy to help execute my plan. "I'm thinking I deserve one every day for the next twelve days," I said as he moved in for a kiss. The grinding of his hips against mine stopped. Chase pushed up on his elbows and stared at me, lifting a curious brow."Hear me out." My fingers examined his rib cage, stopping to pay homage to his thick, oblique muscles. "I need someone like you to…" My throat closed. When had my palms become this sweaty? I took my hands off his body so he wouldn't notice, and prayed the cool air would dry them."Like me?""Experienced…not looking for attachments." I threw in the last bit to remind us both Chase fulfilled the role of Frog number one.He grinned. "What do you need?""I want you to spend the next twelve days teaching…showing me how to make love."He winced, and sucked a hiss through his teeth. "You write sex for a living.""Writing about it and really living it are two different things." I squirmed out of his hold. He pulled away as I sat Indian style across from him. "Look, here's the deal. It's been eight long years since I've been single, and now that I'm back on the market, I intend to be the best product out there."His lips twitched as his gaze roamed my body. "You're pretty damn good as you are."I blushed and grabbed a red throw pillow to cover my nakedness. "Thanks, but I need, shall we say, tutoring in the fine art of love making.""Let me get this straight." He barely contained the laughter in his voice. "You're asking me to instruct you on how to have sex?""No dummy. I know how to have sex. Anybody can pump and hump." The image of my ex flashed in my mind. "I want passion, chemistry and hot, sweaty multiple orgasms." I tossed the pillow on the floor and rose, knee walking across the sofa toward him. My fingers teased the hem of his T-shirt. They finagled their way underneath the soft material and behind the waistband of his jeans. I pulled him close. "I want to make love.""For twelve days? Then I'm off the hook?" He looked so relieved I almost giggled.I pushed my pelvis against his cock and smiled when it twitched back to life. "Yes." I grabbed his ass and gave it a tight squeeze. Then, I ran my mouth up the side of his neck to his ear, nibbling the lobe. "You interested?"
