Books, Books, Books

My reading menu is mostly made up of books that I get to translate, which is why I don't nearly read as much as I'd like to. Or write as much as I'd love to. Still, I love my job and I'm doing the best I can keeping up with ratings (here) and reviews (on my own blogs).

So if you'd like to read what I think of one of the books I've read, please refer to my boog blogs for a full review:
in English: http://bookbag79.blogspot.nl
in Dutch: http://boekenlegger.blogspot.nl

And I'll try to at least drop a quote or summary from those reviews here, as soon as there's time to spare.

Happy New Reading!

Hello everyone, and my apologies for almost completely ignoring this here blog (in favour of the five I already have going in both English and Dutch - that's my defense and I'm sticking to it).

I'm not reading as much as I'd like, mostly sticking to work I'm currently translating, and while I do manage to give stars to books I've read, my reviews are always up on my own two book blogs, one in English and one in Dutch.

Do check those out if you're curious about my view on anything I've read.

Here we go with the book blogs:
http://bookbag79.blogspot.nl
http://boekenlegger.blogspot.nl

And my other blog in English:
http://en-blog.creativedifference.nl

I promise to update each as I have time and material! Now back to my translation, a novel of nearly 120,000 words! Ta!

Time Management

I just rated a whole bunch of books I've read, either for pleasure, for a review site or because I'm working on their translation...

I do plan to review every single one of the books I've read, and post them on my own BookBag website (which is here: http://bookbag79.blogspot.nl) and once I have more luxury time to spend, I might be able to at least add some of them here.

Every time I finish a translation on time (which, is always), I feel like taking out my magic wand and tapping on my planner, not to say 'mischief managed', but 'time managed'.

So right now, as I'm staring down a number of deadlines (all in good spirits), I'd better go back to work again. Correction: coffee first, then work. Priorities, priorities.

Reviews Can Be Found... Here

Hi All!

I know it's been ages since I was here - a lot has happened, mainly involving work (translating more beautiful books), paperwork and whatnots.

For 2013 I did have a Goodreads resolution, but it's difficult to stick to it, apparently. I want to rate the books I read (there aren't as many as I'd like), and also leave reviews that help the authors, especially the indies.

The thing is, though, that I already have a special place for my book reviews, and I've attacked the link to this blog post. Everything I read, fiction and non-fiction, will be reviewed right there. And as for copy-pasting it on the Goodreads forum... well, maybe if I have enough time to spare. I won't post on Amazon, they might mistake me for an actual author. Which I'm not. Yet. ;)

See all my reviews at my own BookBag blog: http://bookbag79.blogspot.nl/

Step One

I don't remember the exact movie title - something with a bunch of men who are all patients of the same psychiatrist, I seem to recall - but there was this one character who said: 'Baby steps, baby steps.'

That's my creed right now, taking things step by step. Thanks to Tessa from the Goodreads Crew I can now make alterations in my profile and list of books and my first Good Deed was to take the dissertation by one of my namesakes out of the list.

The next steps, over time, will be to find out if my translations of specific books have already been entered into the system or not and then make sure they pop up as part of my books - as translator, of course.

Why am I telling you guys all this? Because I'm currently dealing with some difficult personal circumstances, and as much as I would love to be able to read books, review books and write stuff, I'm already thankful to at least get my translations done on time and with as much pleasure as always.

All I know is that the next few weeks and months will be hard and I can only do so much in any given day or week or month. But I will get back here as often as I can, and I will start adding reviews when and wherever I can. Promise. I'll be back.

If only I knew...

First post and I'll start by apologising. I simply can't figure out how to teach this Goodreads system who I am and who I am not.

For instance, I'm currently more a translator than an author. My translations contain my name in two if not three different spellings. But try telling a content management system that.

I believe there is a way to tell it that there are other people out there with the same name, so that not all books that appear under my name now are actually mine. Charmed, the Immortals, the Soul Seekers... yes, yes, yes. But that dissertation isn't mine.

Going to try and figure out how all this works and if I can manage to get all my translations listed under my name. Or not. If not, I'll find another way to brag about them. Although, between my own website and Facebook, I guess I'm already well on my way.
