What the…

You may notice that the site looks a little… blah. That’s because something happened to it. I’ll be working over the next few weeks to get it back on track, but it will be slow because I’ve also got a book release coming up (if you haven’t pre-ordered Her Billionaire Boss yet, now’s a great time!).

Accountability report: I am terrified, but I did it!

I have been struggling with anxiety over this for a year now, but guess what? I’m ready! Today, I launched AbigailBarnette.com. Or, you could look at it as, “I opened the world’s first Abigail Barnette themed online bookstore.”

I’ve been dragging my feet a bit on this one. I had to make a phone call, which was obstacle #1. I kept making excuses like, “Oh, I don’t have time to work on that.” Well, time made itself available to me. I’ve had awful writer’s block for the past few weeks, due in part to stress over my husband’s ongoing medical issue. All I’ve been able to do is proofread, format… and work on deeply repetitive tasks like finishing the set up on a Shopify store. I no longer had any excuse.

Even after a full year of planning and tinkering and researching, amassing inventory, testing and retesting, I’m so afraid. But I’m optimistic. This is a really important step in owning my art. I’ll be able to release special editions exclusively to the shop. I can offer my eBooks directly and release titles a week or two early for readers who decide to shop with me. I’m really excited about this. Currently, orders can only be shipped to the U.S., which I explain on the FAQ there, but take my anxiety level in this post into consideration and you’ll understand.

So, here’s to Abigail Barnette’s new venture. Now, onto the rest of the accountability:

New release: HER BILLIONAIRE BOYFRIEND!

I’m so excited to announce that HER BILLIONAIRE BOYFRIEND, #2 in the HER BILLIONAIRE series, is available for you to read TODAY! Or, you know. This weekend. Whenever you have time. But it’s here!

One week isn’t enough. He wants forever.

As the billionaire owner of Ascend Red, an exclusive island resort for kinky, hand-selected clientele, Matthew Ashe prides himself on making fantasies come true. When Charlotte Holmes walked into his life, she quickly became his fantasy. But now, their stay is almost over, and their future is waiting.

Charlotte knows that she’ll have to adapt to Matt’s life of luxury, but she doesn’t expect to be thrown into the deep end quite so soon. A weekend party at his family’s estate gives Charlotte a taste of how the exceptionally wealthy live—and highlights just how different she and Matt are, despite their scorching compatibility in bed.

When they stumble into a family secret, Matt and Charlotte are forced to confront their differences, fears, and insecurities…and the reality that their match made in paradise might not work in the real world, after all.

If you read HER BROTHER’S BILLIONAIRE BEST FRIEND and you thought, “There’s no way this story can get any kinkier,” well. Take a peak at this excerpt:

“Are you ready?” he asked as we reached the theater doors.

I took a deep breath and nodded, expecting to see the twenty men assembled inside. To my surprise, when Matt threw open the doors, the theater was empty. A long, wide table sat in the center of the otherwise bare floor, heavenly smells wafting from the mounds of food on offer.

My jaw dropped. It looked like a medieval banquet, with whole roast hens and steaming pies, towers of fruits and pastries, pewter goblets and rustic tankards, and near the head of the table, a narrow section with a single thick, iron shackle bolted directly to the wood. Scattered among all the normal things one would find on a banquet table were toys and lubes, wet wipes, and condoms for those who might want to use them.

I hoped none of them did. If I didn’t leave the castle tonight bathed in cum and unable to walk right, I would be very disappointed.

“Hop up, princess,” Matt instructed, guiding me between two of the rough-hewn benches lining the sides.

I did so, but gingerly. It was difficult to forget that I had a priceless sex toy in my butt. The entire way there, all I’d thought about was how I would accidentally lose the giant diamond affixed to it. Not that it would be impossible to find. It was so big, it would probably leave a dent in the floor if someone dropped it.

I sat on the edge of the table and Matt stepped between my spread knees as far as my skirt would allow. He reached for the shackle on its long chain. “Right or left arm?”

“Left,” I answered, and held it out obediently. “My dragon.”

He latched the cuff around my wrist and in almost the same instant grabbed the back of my neck and yanked me forward. I thought he would go in for a kiss; instead, he bit my lip, pulling a startled cry from my throat. My earlier denied orgasms were a persistent throb between my legs. Every nerve sang, every primal instinct warned me that I was captured.

“Do you remember the story?” he asked, his mouth a breath away from mine.

My voice stuck in my throat.

“‘Offer yourself to them,’ the dragon ordered her,” he quoted. I knew he’d recorded that call. Had he watched it often enough that he’d memorized it? He must have, because the words matched too closely the story burned into my memory. “And she obeyed him, begging the knights to use her, to fuck her mouth and her cunt and her ass, to defile her until their lusts were sated and no prince desiring a chaste maiden would want her. And when they were finished, the dragon would bestow sacks of gold upon them as a reward, for he, too, wished to see his princess behave like the common slut he knew her to be.”

I shivered and squeezed my thighs together.

“Are you going to behave that way for me tonight?” he asked, giving my bottom lip another sharp nip.

“Yes, my dragon,” I whispered.

“Good. Because twenty knights are waiting to rescue you from the dragon. Prove that you don’t want to be.” The hand at the back of my neck slid around to cover my throat. He exerted minimal pressure, and I lay back at that urging. “What do you say if you want it to stop?”

“I say ‘mercy,’ my dragon.” My voice was barely audible.

“And when your mouth is stuffed full of a stranger’s cock? What then?” he prompted.

I snapped my fingers five times, and he nodded, appeased.

He took a seat at the head of the table, close enough to touch me if he wanted to. Certainly, close enough that he’d see every flicker of lust on my face, hear every slap of another man’s cock pounding into me. He filled a goblet from one of the pitchers and nodded to the dark corners of the room.

The doors around the perimeter opened.

The knights had arrived.

Every man he’d selected had dressed impeccably for the occasion. Their shirts alone probably cost more money than my parents had wasted sending me to college. The knights were devastatingly handsome, but I only recognized a few of them from around the resort.

I searched out Dante. Our eyes met, and he gave me a nod and a crooked smile. I recognized the man who’d fucked me over the roulette table, but tonight he sported salt-and-pepper stubble that matched his hair. Another of the knights had been at the lube orgy. I had no idea if I’d fucked him.

If I hadn’t, I would.

The men closed in on the table, lining up ten on each side, all of them sporting various levels of anticipation written on their faces in smirks and smiles. Maybe at the silliness of it all? Because it was silly, and over-the-top. But that’s what they’d come to Ascend Red for, I supposed.

“Gentlemen,” Matt addressed them. He didn’t stand. “As you see, the princess you’ve come to rescue is hardly in need of rescuing. She’s a common slut, ready to spread her legs for any knight who enters my domain. She’s here for your pleasure, and hers, and mine. Avail yourself of the wine, the food, her pretty mouth, her open cunt, her tight ass. Enjoy anything you see on my table. We’ll let luck decide who goes first.”

He pulled something from his pocket.

I groaned, but not in desire. Mortification. He’d brought a piece of nerdy D&D equipment with him, one of those big, twenty-sided dice. He caught my gaze and gave me a cheeky grin. I rolled my eyes, and he rolled the die.

“Nine,” he called.

It was happening.

Oh god, this was it.

New Release! ALPHA QUEEN ASCENDING is out now!

Things have gotten strange over at Casa de Pez, and I forgot to promote my book entirely! If you’ve been reading my werewolf series, Taken By The Alpha King, the final installment is out in ebook now! I had such a good time writing in the genre that made me a writer in the first place. I’m a little sad that it’s all over. But it’s out now, and as always, Covers by Kris knocked it out of the park:

A full moon behind the Montreal skyline. In the foreground, an amulet with a rune carved into it lays on a stone. The title, Alpha Queen Ascending, is centered over the full moon.

You can get the whole series now in ebook, at all the retailers, if you’re in the mood for deeply tropey PNR/UF. And yes, there will be a paperback of this one. It’s ready to go, cover flat and everything, but as I said, things are bonkers, so I’m just waiting on a proof.

I can’t wait to tell you why things have been bonkers, but as it’s unrelated to writing (it’s about my art), I’m sitting on it until everything is totally set in stone.

Hope things are good in your world, Trout Nation!

Blood Ties (Jenny’s version): A Patreon update

I’m being so lazy and just copy/pasting this blog post, for the most part, from the one I made on Patreon. But you’ve seen my to-do list. You can cut me some slack.

Over on Patreon and Ream, the core Fablemere trilogy is wrapped. All three will be available in ebook and paperback by the end of this year. I’m so happy I got to write it, and I’m so grateful to everyone who supported it.

What happens to that Patreon tier now? What happens to Ream? Well, the Patreon tier will still exist. It’s just call The Library now. Fablemere will stay available for $3 and up patrons, but the focus will shift from just that universe to other works that I’ll serialize before going to paperback and ebook releases. If you read my stuff on the Radish and Yonder apps, it’s similar to that model. Subscribers will see it before it goes to publication.

Currently, I’m working on a rewrite of my first-ever novel, Blood Ties Book One: The Turning. I’ll be releasing the updated version on the 20th anniversary of its first publication, June 6, 2026, as The Turning, as part of the Blood Ties (Jenny’s version) series.

Yes, I’m actually doing the (Jenny’s version) thing, because Taylor Swift re-recording her masters was a massive inspiration to me when making the decision to pursue the rights to these books.

The Turning will be the next work I post on the $3 Patreon tier, and on Ream. It won’t be a weekly upload, however. Fablemere was written with the expectation that it would be serialized, meaning shorter chapters that are all about the same length, between 1,500 and 3,000 words long. The Turning is a traditional novel, and the chapters range between 3,000 and 6,000 words, and I’m rewriting it all. Because the project isn’t finished yet, the uploads might be two weeks apart.

So, take all of that into account and decide if the Patreon and Ream is still right for you. Chapters of The Turning will begin posting on April 1.

Here’s the super cringe blurb it was originally published with:

I’m no coward. I want to make that perfectly clear. But after my life turned into a horror movie, I take fear a lot more seriously now. I finally became Dr. Carrie Ames just eight months ago. Then I was attacked in the hospital morgue by a vampire. Just my luck.

So now I’m a vampire, and it turns out I have a blood tie to the monster who sired me. The tie works like an invisible leash and I’m bound to him no matter what I do. And of course he’s one of the most evil vampires on earth. With my sire hell-bent on turning me into a soulless killer and his sworn enemy set to exterminate me, things couldn’t get much worse — except I’m attracted to them both.

Drinking blood, living as an immortal demon and being a pawn between two warring vampire factions isn’t exactly how I’d imagined my future. But as my father used to say, the only way to conquer fear is to face it. So that’s what I’ll do. Fangs bared.

Accountability!

Wow, I’ve dropped the accountabiliball lately! Having the flu really knocked me off my game. I have been nothing but scattered ever since. I’m not even sure I’ve been faithfully logging all the words I’ve been writing, because I just forget.

One thing is for sure. While I had the flu, I somehow wrote 5,676 words. And that’s not good. I should have been resting and letting my body fight off infection. Instead, I was agonizing because the week I took off work, the week that my husband would be out of town, I was supposed to write. Not lay in bed sick. How lazy of me!

Seeing that total in the spreadsheet shocked the hell out of me. It really shocked the hell of out me. Now, on at least one of those days, I did really enjoy myself. I was super bored with being sick, and being able to use my brain again was amazing. But the other days? Why was I struggling?

It made me think of how guilty I feel if I prioritize any relaxation at all over writing. I go on vacations with my family and try to sneak little moments of work in the whole time. The other night, I wrote on my phone during the intermissions of a hockey game. It would be one thing if it was motivated from love of the craft, but it’s really just motivated by fear. I need to find a way to reframe things so that I’m concentrating on how much I like writing and blogging, rather than how terrible I am for spending a single moment not working.

In other news, my pre-orders for Her Billionaire Boyfriend are sitting at 49, just under my goal of 100. And I’ve made an accountability friend at my out-of-the-house job. She has a podcast and hasn’t recorded a new episode in forever. I told her that I haven’t recorded a YouTube video in forever. We agreed that we would both record them by Wednesday. So, there will be a new video for the Patreon soon, and I also plan on getting a video up that was a request from the Discord, about a truly disgusting book I read.

Accountability Time!

It’s almost Valentine’s Day! And I work for a chocolatier! But to my amazement, I got a lot of stuff done!

My production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels went really well, but I missed an entire week of working on anything, including, unfortunately, Her Brother’s Billionaire Best Friend‘s release promo. I really fumbled the ball there, but I did notice that having my pre-order link for book two at the end of book one has resulted in twenty-seven pre-orders, and the book comes out in May. I haven’t even really been promoting the sequel yet. Although I’m supposed to do that. More on that, later.

Right now, to focus on this particular week, my number one goal has to be “manage my expectations.” I’m working extra hours at the outside job this week due to the holiday, but I somehow keep having the genius idea to do literally everything on the inside job. Proofread! Format! Make this phone call! Do this!

I cannot ask myself to make a phone call this week. I cannot ask myself to deal with taxes. It’s okay to do the normal amount of writing job work. Go big next week.

BUT definitely do the cover reveal for Her Billionaire Boyfriend, Jenny. You have to do that. Past you didn’t think it through very well when they scheduled it.

Probably means I have to write the blurb, too. Son of a…

But the really interesting news is that last week, the combined total of all the words I wrote across three projects was 10,000 exactly.

RELEASE DAY! Her Brother’s Billionaire Best Friend

Happies of book birthdays to Her Brother’s Billionaire Best Friend, out in ebook today. The paperback release is on the way, but a formatting error required me to order a new physical proof, just to be sure damaged copies aren’t being sold. I’m confident the issue will be fixed before the end of February.

The cover of Her Brother's Billionaire Best Friend by Abigail Barnette. A pale white redhead in black bra and panties sits on the lap of a white man in a black suit, holding a rocks glass.

He’s perfect for her. She’ll perfectly destroy him.

Charlotte Holmes doesn’t fall in love; she falls into bed. And car. And cruise ship stateroom. Matthew Ashe falls in love way too easily; he’s a sucker for a pretty face. And falling too fast. And getting impulsively engaged. The only thing the two of them have in common is their mutual love of kinky, casual sex….and the fact that Charlotte’s brother is Matt’s best friend.

All Charlotte knows about Matt is that he’s the billionaire heir to a hospitality empire. All Matt knows about Charlotte is that she’s bound to break his heart. When a destination wedding fling turns into months of long-distance flirtation, Matt invites Charlotte to Ascend Red, his private resort where guests live out their wildest fantasies. Even limitless indulgence and abandoned inhibitions can’t satisfy his craving for something deeper with Charlotte. And Charlotte is beginning to think Matthew Ashe could be the one man she doesn’t want to walk away from…

Accountability time!

My year of success is chugging right along. I sent out ARC emails (and ARCs) this week. If you’re on the team and didn’t get an email, or didn’t get a reply, let me know. The paperback would be completely ready to be crossed off, if Ingram didn’t send a cover template a tenth of an inch smaller than they want them to be, then complain when those files return at the dimension they asked for. Promo got briefly sidetracked due to my anxieties over these wildfires and their proximity to my son and his girlfriend, but I’ll be back on that train later today.
