Space Junque Goes To Reading the Paranormal
Consternated is one of my favorite words. I think it's one of the words I learned from comic books, like determined and ultimatum and metropolis.
We interrupt our regularly scheduled blog tour for a nugget of a review of Space Junque at Reading the Paranormal. This is one of my favorite kinds of reviews. The reviewer isn't sure if she likes the book – but she's engaged in thinking about it.
Here's the thing: As soon as I finished this novella I jumped online and downloaded the second, which says to me that there was something here that captured my fancy in a big way. I didn't necessarily like this book but I can see the bones of something intriguing in it. Does that make sense?
I think she was consternated.
And I get it. The one complaint I hear over and over about Space Junque is some variation of: it's too short. It was meant to be an introduction to the world of Apocalypto, and it was meant to be short. I think it's just right, just the way it is, but maybe not.
Space Junque demonstrates one of my biggest challenges as a writer: how much or how little to tell? If I were writing it today, I'd go a little slower – but not much. I hope the reviewer does read Spiderwork and then ventures into the deep end of the pool with Bleeder.

This is my first book blog tour, and it turns out they don't magically appear from the Book Blog Tour Magic Box! The bloggers (you can see the roster here) juggle and coordinate their calendars and post and manage their days. I write the guest posts and select the excerpts. Plus I wanted to do a gift certificate giveaway, so I wrote the questions and designed the multiple choice forms for that.
