The more I think about it, the more it makes sense as to why Hades would be a decent guy compared to the rest of the gods. He is, after all, the god of the underworld.
Can you imagine how much shit he sees on a daily basis? He would figure out pretty quick that murder is bad, rape is bad, adultery is bad…etc.
Now it also makes a lot more sense as to why he treats Persephone so differently compared to how the rest of the gods treat their wives. He’s seen how husbands treat their wives on earth. He wants more for her and he knows she’s worth more than that. He respects her, he gives her power, he actually loves on her…
I could go on forever.

I’m not sure if this is a spoiler or not (forgive me if it is) but in the book Receiver of Many by @therkalexander there’s a small segment in which Hades is showing Persephone around the Underworld and the exchange goes something like:
Persephone: Where are the slaves?
Hades: I pride myself on not having slaves here.
Or something along those lines.
I could totally see the Underworld having slaves before Hades was ever in control of it, causing him to inherit them along with everything else. Over the course of millions of years, Hades realizes what slavery is, the effects of it, and the fact that it’s not a good thing based off of mortals who have crossed over. One day, he just randomly tells everyone to free the slaves.
Man’s gotta be pretty smart, honestly and is probably way ahead of his time in the way he thinks and his morals.
Headcannon accepted. I will likely go into this in a future book about the Titanomachy, and one of Nyx’s conditions for allying herself with Aidoneus during the war.
