Ha, I am an Awkward Dork

So, yes, the second to the last thing I said to the Amazon dude was "Talk to you soon." I cringed. But then I thought, you know, I normally talk on the phone to the Professor or my brother or my parents. I live in an email world. Amazon dude is lucky I didn't automatically say, "I love you, Dad." as I was trying to say "Good-bye." Shoot, anyone who calls me is lucky if I don't end the conversation with "I love you, Dad." (I started saying "I love you, Dad" because it bothers my dad a great...

Two Amazon Kindle Things

1. The photos Coble sent me of how the book looks on her Kindle look amazing.

2. I got an email from a guy at Amazon about what went wrong and how they can improve it. He's going to call me here in a bit.

So, I have to give credit where credit is due.

Book Doings

Well, so there's a book book and a Kindle version of the book. People who ordered from Amazon are starting to get their books. I guess people who order Kindle versions will get their books whenever they order them. People who ordered from the printer, all I can tell you is that I've gotten books from them three times and all of them have come early, so… let's hope.

I sent out all my email press releases last night. Marketers will tell you that Tuesday is the best day to send emails, but next w...

Oh, I Forgot to Tell You The Other Funny Things about the Redheaded Kid

He just told us last night that he's afraid of cats. He wouldn't move the new kitty out of the chair because he doesn't want to touch her because she might attack him.

Fair enough, but he's house-sat for us for as long as we've known him.

And he never mentioned this until now?

I guess he never touched the cats?

Well, Kindle, Ha

So, my concern was the cover, but that looks fine. It's the whole "Not available" part that's troubling. Ha ha ha.

Anyway, maybe by the time you read this, it'll be for sale?

Second Only to Delighting a Member of the Goth Community

My secret hope is that the Nashville Goth community will come to love my book. That will delight the hell out of me. But what happened tonight was almost as good.

The Redheaded Kid came over and he was all "What have you  been up to?"

And I said, "I wrote a book."

"For real?"

"Yes, you should totally read it."

I hand him a copy.

"Oh my god! Is this a real thing? I love ghost stories! I'm going to read the shit out of this."

I'm a little sad I can't somehow use "I'm going to read the shit out of...

I Could Get Used to This

Folks taking pictures of the book when they get it. I'm having a little bit of cognitive dissonance realizing that the books are actually going to be in people who purchased them's hands today and tomorrow. People can read it this weekend!

OOOh.

That's pretty wild.

I hope y'all like it. I hope it creeps the shit out of you and makes you laugh.

I'm ready to see if people like it.

Let's Discuss Kindle and I Will Refrain from Kicking Folks

This is not a dig at anyone here. You didn't know. Hell, I didn't know.

But, in the future, if you wish to discuss whether a Kindle version of someone's book exists, believe me this is the only way that conversation should go:

"Oh, hurray! You have a book! Is there going to be a Kindle edition?"

"Um… well… yeah… I…"

"Say no more. I happen to have three dozen rotten eggs and a full tank of gas. If you can find out who at Amazon needs their house egged, we are going."

That's it. Don't say how much y...

Back to Kate Batts

I have been mulling her over quite a bit. I'd like to understand better what was meant by "witch" at the time (both at the time the story was first written down and at the time it was supposed to have taken place). We frame this as a ghost story, but it's not exactly a ghost story. Have I shared with y'all Pat Fitzhugh's site? He does a good job of stressing that the "witch" was a supernatural entity, not a particular person.

But he also gets right into the meat of what I want to better...
