For the last very long time or so, my only web access has been through my phone, which has very limited capbilities, so I've been wanting to get this message to you for awhile. First, do you have some sort of list that I can be put on, which would alert me

I had a mailing/discussion list for this on Google Groups, but to be honest, I completely forgot about it. :x Not that it didn't serve its purpose, I was mainly using it to gauge interest via the amount of signups.

This Tumblr is really the most likely place I'll post any big announcements concerning the book thingie. It's been a while since I worked on it, but that will change this month.

Right now there still isn't much to say except that there will definitely be books, and they'll be kinda expensive. :x By the end of the month I should have more concrete info.

Pardon me if this was asked before (or worse, asked often), but what kinds of music do you enjoy? Or, considering that classifying tastes strictly by genre can be a bitch for one with eclectic tastes, are there any bands that you particularly enjoy?

During the previous couple years I was REALLY into alternative country like the Peacemakers and the Old 97s, though recently I've been a little burned out on it. That's kinda how music is, though, and I'm sure I'll get back into it later down the road.

Nowadays I'm checking out a big variety of stuff I missed out on over the past 20 or so years. I hated bands like Nirvana and NiN when I was a teenager but now I think they're the bees knees, and Gorillaz has been blowing my socks off too. I've listened to Demon Days a billion times since I bought it a few weeks ago. And of course Rock Band will sometimes release track packs that make me realize how great these old bands are, and I'll start listening to them again; I went out and bought Combat Rock the other day because of this.

Admittedly this is causing me to neglect newer, less known bands and artists but I'm sure I'll come around again to them too. For me, music has been a continuing, looping cycle of this kind of thing.

Here's a list of bands that aided my work on Girly and etc for about eight years: Roger Clyne & the Refreshments/Peacemakers, Sleater-Kinney, The Old 97s, Mates of State, Morphine, the Drive-by Truckers, Four Tet, Stereolab, CFTPA, Silver Jews, Interpol, Hideki Naganuma, Fastball, The Black Sorrows, Tom Petty, Live, Nirvana, Pizzicatto Five, Move, Van Halen, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Joel, Gorillaz, The Mountain Goats, Steve Earle, They Might be Giants, m.o.v.e, The Beatles, Them Crooked Vultures, and Reel Big Fish

Do you still hate Usher, knowing deep down he leads the sad sad life of a dancing clown?

Haha, truth is, my hatred of usher back in 2000 was mostly due to my then place of employment having a radio on, always tuned into "bullshit generic pop R&B claptrap station #3000" and during that era his "You Remind Me…" song would be replayed every 20 minutes and it just drove me up the fucking wall. I mean, holy shit, lyrics that bad should be grounds for execution.

Many things, particularly dorky stuff like Gorillaz, has helped me become more accepting of R&B music in general, but I still get kinda mad when I remember that song, uggh that insipid looping melody that never stops and the contrived rhymes in the chorus FUCK YOU USHER DIE DIE DIE

Why do so many web cartoonists hate the fuck out of Jim Davis? I get that Garfield is mediocre and was popular like 20 years ago but people seem to resent him with the intensity of a thousand suns. What's deal? What did he do that was so terribly evil? Is

Davis is pretty much the embodiment of crass, corporate thinking masquerading as creativity. Some artists just hate that shit, myself included.

It's the same reason Least I Could Do is so awful. I'm sure Sohmer is a nice guy and whatever, but goddamn if everything he does isn't calculated as hell… I can't believe there are people who actually buy into his manufactured edginess.
