Pardon me if this was asked before (or worse, asked often), but what kinds of music do you enjoy? Or, considering that classifying tastes strictly by genre can be a bitch for one with eclectic tastes, are there any bands that you particularly enjoy?
During the previous couple years I was REALLY into alternative country like the Peacemakers and the Old 97s, though recently I've been a little burned out on it. That's kinda how music is, though, and I'm sure I'll get back into it later down the road.
Nowadays I'm checking out a big variety of stuff I missed out on over the past 20 or so years. I hated bands like Nirvana and NiN when I was a teenager but now I think they're the bees knees, and Gorillaz has been blowing my socks off too. I've listened to Demon Days a billion times since I bought it a few weeks ago. And of course Rock Band will sometimes release track packs that make me realize how great these old bands are, and I'll start listening to them again; I went out and bought Combat Rock the other day because of this.
Admittedly this is causing me to neglect newer, less known bands and artists but I'm sure I'll come around again to them too. For me, music has been a continuing, looping cycle of this kind of thing.
Here's a list of bands that aided my work on Girly and etc for about eight years: Roger Clyne & the Refreshments/Peacemakers, Sleater-Kinney, The Old 97s, Mates of State, Morphine, the Drive-by Truckers, Four Tet, Stereolab, CFTPA, Silver Jews, Interpol, Hideki Naganuma, Fastball, The Black Sorrows, Tom Petty, Live, Nirvana, Pizzicatto Five, Move, Van Halen, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Joel, Gorillaz, The Mountain Goats, Steve Earle, They Might be Giants, m.o.v.e, The Beatles, Them Crooked Vultures, and Reel Big Fish
