The Epilogue (not included in the book)
See full details and claim your gifts HERE.

Please be sure to share this offer with your friends, book club members, and book-reading buddies!
Wait, why isn't the Epilogue in the book? Because the story ends just right just where we left off. BUT… if you're like me--often wanting to linger in the story world a little bit longer to know just a little bit more about what happened after “The End…” this extra bonus is for you. :)
About the book:
Jimmy Propfield joined the army for two reasons: to get out of Mobile, Alabama, with his best friends Hank and Billy and to forget his high school sweetheart, Claire.
Life in the Philippines seems like paradise–until the morning of December 8, 1941, when news comes from Manila: the Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbor. Within hours, the teenage friends are plunged into war as Japanese warplanes attack Luzon, beginning a battle for control of the Pacific Theater that will culminate with a last stand on the Bataan Peninsula and end with the largest surrender of American troops in history.
What follows will become known as one of the worst atrocities in modern warfare: the Bataan Death March. With no hope of rescue, the three friends vow to make it back home together. But the ordeal is only the beginning of their nearly four-year fight to survive.
Inspired by true stories, The Long March Homeis a gripping coming-of-age tale of friendship, sacrifice, and the power of unrelenting hope from two New York Times bestselling authors.

The Long March Home Recipe Book
When I write books, I love the research. And I research everything--from the setting to the night sky that time of year—or that very date in time—to clothing, weather, culture, patterns of speech, and all the things. I especially love to research food (which is my love language: ).
During the writing of this book, I was so fortunate to have the help of a friend who not only lives in Alabama near her mother (who remembers everything about the area and shared valuable details about Mobile, Alabama, the high school, jubilees, and some local favorite foods. She even gave me her mom's easy-to-make recipe for an item mentioned in The Long March Home: A World War II Novel of the Pacific: Chocolate Gravy. Now, I live in Nebraska and had never heard of this before (have you?) Find Sue's recipe from her church cookbook below to serve on your favorite biscuits as well as some other wonderful recipes for items in this book!

Sue’s Chocolate Gravy
1 c. sugar
2 T flour
1 T cocoa
1 c. milk
1 T butter
1/2 t vanilla flavoring
Stir first three ingredients with wire whisk. Add milk and stir. Cook in microwave. Stir with wire whisk several times. When thick, add butter and vanilla. Serve over biscuits.

Top 10 Historical Fiction
Thank you, Booklist, for naming The Long March Home: A World War II Novel of the Pacific to their Top 10 Historical Fiction of 2023!

Jimmy, Hank, and Billy were more than just the preacher’s son, the outcast, and the tagalong. They are brothers by choice, sharing a bond of loyalty, understanding, and friendship throughout life’s ups and downs. When the trio enlists together with the hope of seeing the world, they instead find themselves on the explosive front lines of the Pacific Theater after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Fighting for survival in a violent new world of dizzying unpredictability, uncertain hope, and crippling despair, their brotherhood faces the ultimate test in a journey to the war-torn edges of hell and back home again. Brotherton and Lee are a narrative tour de force in their first novel together. The Long March Home is a stunning WWII story of the ferocity with which three friends loved and fought for one another. Taking inspiration from true stories, the novel is an astonishing combination of gritty wartime action tempered with poignant growth and drama. Alternating chapters reveal the stories behind the men’s resilient friendship, from the innocence of childhood to the confusion of adolescence to the impossible choices expedited by war. A heartbreaking, resonant story with characters who effortlessly come alive make this a must-read literary triumph.
