#IWSG: Sales / Wattpad Wednesday: Reborn Chapter 12 / Realms Faire

IWSG was created by the awesome Captain Ninja Alex J. Cavanaugh. To visit the other participants, click here.Sales. It's one thing we're most interested about but usually never hear about when it comes to authors. I must be honest. I wish sales were better, but doesn't everyone? Those months where you sell ten copies or less across all platforms kinda suck and there are way too many of those type of months.
The good thing about self-publishing is I do have a tiny bit of control of sales in the form on pricing. I decide the price. Best of all, I can decide on when to put titles on sale.

For the first time ever, the ebook of Reborn is now $0.99, a savings of $2.00. Purchase at Amazon / Google Play / iTunes / Kobo / Nook / OmniLit / Smashwords.
And here are two pre-made tweets you can use, if you'd like to tweet the sale:
Reborn by @bookworm0753 #sale #fantasy http://ow.ly/DwS69 #99chttp://ow.ly/i/7osfL
Reborn by @bookworm0753 #sale #fantasy http://ow.ly/DwStL #99chttp://ow.ly/i/7osiN

You can also get People of Foxwick and Their Neighbors on pre-order for $0.99, a savings of $3.00. Pre-order your copy at Amazon / Google Play / iTunes / Kobo / Nook / OmniLit / Smashwords.
And here are two pre-made tweets you can use, if you'd like to tweet this sale:

People of Foxwick and Their Neighbors by @bookworm0753 Pre-order sale! #fantasy http://ow.ly/DwQZD #99c http://ow.ly/i/7os8d
Will lowering the price help sell the book?
So far it is, but I recommend getting some ads to help the sale along. Ereader News Today ran an ad I purchased for Reborn on Monday, and I got some nice results and on some bestseller lists.

By the way, Milo James Fowler hosted me on his blog last week. The topic was Finding Balance, and I have some tips on how I find balance between life, a day job, and being a writer. You can read the post here.

Writing Update: November Goals

I've been doing a lot of thinking this month--and reading, if you've seen last week's Bookworm News. Unfortunately that means I haven't done anything with Remarked besides type up what I'd already handwritten. *sighs*

As for the thinking, I realize I need to get some things finished before I start writing again. For a while now, I've wanted to take away the individual stories in Gravity and Nightmare and have just the collections up. If I was going to do a second edition, which is what is required for changing a print book title and cover, then I thought I should read through them again and see if there is anything that should be change. This month I've started working on Gravity. Next month I want to finish it. I plan to put Gravity in KDP Select for a while too as an experiment to see if it sells better exclusively or not. If nothing really changes, then I'll put it back everywhere after the ninety days. Before the end of the year, I plan to create the second edition of Nightmare. I feel like if I can finish that stuff up, then I can focus on what comes next.
Here are my goals for November:
Gravity: A Collection - I'm hoping to have the second edition finished and ready to be republished. As I get closer to having the edition finished, I'm removing the individual titles (Defying Gravity, Fighting Gravity, and Pull of Gravity) and will soon be removing Gravity: The Complete Trilogy/Gravity: A Collection off other retailers. I want to give plenty of time to have those gone from other retail sites before I put Gravity: A Collection (2nd edition) into Select.Redestined - I lost two-thirds of the outline in the ransomware incident of June 2014, so I will be working to rewrite the outline for the third and final book to The Fate Challenges series.Once I finish Gravity, I will work on the second edition of Nightmare: A Collection, although I do not expect to finish Nightmare in November.
What are your November goals? Are you participating in NaNoWriMo? Unfortunately I'm not this year, but I'll be cheering everyone on.

#IWSG: 10 Tips for Formatting Your Ebook / Wattpad Wednesday: Reborn Chapter 10
10 Tips for Formatting Your Ebook
You wrote, edited, and polished your manuscript to perfection. It took months or years to get everything perfect. Whether you self-publish your book or go with a publisher, it helps to know some formatting tricks so you can have a great looking book beyond just a great read. These ten tips correspond to Microsoft Word.
1. The Show/Hide button is your friend. It’ll reveal the hidden formatting within your document.
2. One space after a sentence-ending punctuation (or quotation) mark.
3. Never ever use Tabs. Seriously. Don’t do it.
4. Set your indents.
5. Styles will keep your formatting the way you like it through a .doc, an .epub, and a .mobi file.
6. Don’t leave extra spaces after a paragraph.
7. If inserting an image, be sure to position and wrap in line with the text.
8. To create a linked Table of Contents, you will need to use bookmarks and hyperlink.
9. It is better to use page breaks for chapters instead of hitting the enter key multiple times.
10. Set your em dashes (—) and ellipses (…) through symbols.
Having a great base for your manuscript will make formatting much easier for yourself and formatters. And if all else fails, clear out your formatting and start over in a fresh document.

MOSAICS is book 2 in the Track Presius mystery series, a hard-boiled detective thriller with a genetic twist. CHIMERAS, book 1 in the series, is a 2014 Readers' Favorite Book Award finalist.
MOSAICS (Track Presius #2)Dubbed the Byzantine Strangler because of the mysterious mosaic tiles he leaves at the crime scene, a new serial killer is stalking the streets of Los Angeles. Racing to decipher the code encrypted in the tiles before the killer strikes again, Detective Track Presius faces a new challenge: the "awakened" genes that make his vision and olfactory sense so sharp are now taking a toll on his life. When a new set of tiles appears in his own backyard, Track makes a chilling realization: those very same genes that are threatening his life are drawing the Byzantine Strangler closer and closer. The line between hunter and hunted has suddenly blurred. Will Track be the next piece of the mosaic puzzle?
CHIMERAS (Track Presius #1)Haunted by the girl he couldn't save in his youth, and the murder he committed to avenge her, Detective Track Presius has a unique gift: the vision and sense of smell of a predator. When a series of apparently unrelated murders reel him into the depths of genetic research, Track feels more than a call to duty. Children are dying -- children who, like himself, could have been healthy, and yet something, at some point, went terribly wrong. For Track, saving the innocent becomes a quest for redemption. The only way he can come to terms with his dark past is to understand his true nature.

Book Chat: My Summer Trip to Settler, the setting of M. Pax's The Rifters

I don't go on many trips, but when the opportunity came to visit Settler, Oregon, I knew I had to visit. The plan was to spend the weekend at Leeds Motel, but the owner had recently died, so the motel was up for sale. Instead we ended up at Blackes Ranch Resort and Spa.

Boy, you should see the Oregon Trail shows! It puts playing the Oregon Trail game to shame. And you don't have to worry about losing part of your party either. Or do you? Settler is one mysterious place. The locals have been talking about strange happenings. People disappearing. Dying. But you don't have to worry about those things at Blackes Ranch Resort and Spa. The resort is top-notched.
With so much to do at Blackes, I didn't see much else in Settler. The stargazing stole my breath. I'd never seen so many stars out before. It was like those nature scenes on the TV show Survivor where you see millions of stars.
But my favorite part about my trip was the fossil digging. I found no T-Rexes, but I did take home a thunder egg.

Starting over is hard to do. In current day New York, Daelin Long’s dream job at a publishing house goes the way of the dinosaurs her sister chases. With no money and nowhere else to go, Daelin accepts the librarian position in her sister’s dinky town in the middle of Oregon. Nestled inside ancient volcanic peaks, the town of Settler holds onto many secrets. Residents roam the streets with weirdly fashioned devices, and odd lights pulse in the night skies. People whisper of a phantom outlaw and start dying, murdered and missing their heads. On top of it all, Daelin’s sister is missing, and Daelin doesn’t know who to trust.
Earl knows more than he’s saying. He shares a notorious history with the phantom, one he’ll see remains buried. Keeping Daelin’s sister’s secrets is his only chance at redemption, and the only way to keep this world safe.
The Rifters is available for free. The second book in the series, The Initiate, will be available October 20, 2014. It’s up for preorder for a special price at iTunes, Amazon, and Nook. Check HEREfor links. Giveaways and events are ongoing through October 31, 2014. Check HEREfor details.

An Excerpt from The Rifters:Earl’s vigil ended. His girl came home. It had to be her. He stood, ready to run down into the clearing and embrace her, but the angle of the head gave him pause. Silhouetted by the blue energy, the arrival had a long beak. Yes, a beak. Definitely not Charming.
“No.” Earl slumped to the ground and scrambled behind a boulder. Once concealed from the visitor below, he raised his binoculars.
The figure came into focus illuminated by the moon and the rift. It wore a mask with goggles over its beak. Green mist poured out of it in a breathing rhythm, and it had the tail of an eel. The thing stood like a human with two arms and two legs in the usual places. It set down a gyroscope, a metal orb of rings, some full rings, some partial, before the gateway. The gyroscope spun, siphoning energy from the pillars, energy reaching for a crystal in its center. It spun faster, faster, faster until the crystal began to glow. A disturbing shade of green.
The beaked thing from the rift shrieked, which came out as a bubbly burp, an odd sound to go with an odd sight. It kept burping, stopping periodically to sniff at the wind. It continued with its strange behavior until the moon started to set, which deepened the shadows of night, stretching them to distorted patches.

#IWSG: Handwriting Vs Typing / Wattpad Wednesdays / Preorder Twisted Earths

I used to not get why writers would want to write by hand. Why do double the work, so to speak, when it has to be typed up anyway? But after the ransonware incident of June 2014, I've been a bit leery of typing on the computer. I decided to try handwriting my outlines and first drafts, and so far I'm enjoying it, although there are pros and cons of everything out there.
Pros for handwriting:
I don't have to worry about losing the document.I'm less likely to take Internet breaks when writing.I write for longer periods because the words flow better.Cons for handwriting:
I have to eventually type up everything I've handwritten. My spelling abilities go downhill while handwriting.I've discovered my writing is very sparse in descriptions when I write by hand. For now, I plan to continue handwriting first drafts and outlines.
Have you changed how you write before?
