Surface acting at work is a topic Sarah Rose Cavanagh, associate professor of psychology at Assumption College, will be discussing at WorkHuman next month. Her research is focused on how emotion regulation impacts quality o...

4fc7c71bd9a299478d543e65b6f4548a

9 (Proven) Ways To Influence Work Culture

ROI report

In a recent post on how to elevate the role of HR, I mentioned that culture and engagement ranked as the number one trend in Deloitte University Press’ 2015 Global Human Capital Trends report. The 2016 report was just released, and interestingly, executives were asked about culture and engagement separately this year (though both rank as top trends). The reason for the separate rankings, the report explains, is because “they are different concepts…Culture describes ‘the way things work aroun...

[QUIZ] What’s Your Turnover Risk?

Unwanted turnover is a costly liability and pervasive business issue. 3.1 million American workers voluntarily left their jobs in December—which is more than in December 2007, the first month of the recession. And a recent Towers Watson survey showed 50% of all organizations globally reported difficulty retaining their high-potential and top performers. In fact, according to the most recent SHRM/Globoforce report, retention is the #1 challenge faced by HR organizations—topping the list for t...

Why You Can’t Afford To Ignore Your Employer Brand

brand

According to Randstad, U.S. businesses spend more than $110 billion on talent acquisition. That’s more than $3,000 per hire. Just looking at the numbers alone, there is not a company in the U.S.—and I would argue the world—who can afford to ignore their employer brand.

For one, job seekers are more informed than ever before. Consider the fact that nearly half (46%) of Glassdoor members read company reviews when they first start their job search, even before speaking with a recruiter. And nea...
