Managing Anger

Lately I’ve been writing letters to people I’ve had anger towards, and getting all those gnarly old feelings out on paper. Then I burn them up, only for me to see. Every time I do my anger lifts and I can feel my heart again. Can you relate?

The Value of a Walk in the Rain

Yesterday I was having a hard day. So I decided to take a long walk in some wet, rainy fields and, since no one was around, have a good talk with myself. Out loud. I began shyly at first — but soon I was ranting, expounding, crying and then laughing as I felt my burdens […]

The Delicious, Unavoidable Path of Expansion

Have you noticed? Our lives are almost always, continually shifting and expanding. We fall in love and fall out of it. Or we fall in love – and just keep falling deeper. We grow fat, then we grow thin, then we move back towards fat. We reach one level of success only to realize it’s […]

Take the Joy Quiz … Your Heart Wants to Tell You Something

I am off to spend some time in self care up at my favorite hot springs. Yes, I’ll bring a bit of work along but the focus is on quietly spending a bit of time with myself. What are you doing to take care of yourself today? May I recommend my Joy Quiz? It’s a […]

Why We Obsess

These days my default obsession is Downton Abbey. Embarrassingly, I think of the Crawleys as family. I wonder from week to week how Edith is going to find her man, whether Mary will fall for the right guy. I think fondly of Tom and how real he is. And, of course, I worry about Mr. […]

What Would Shirley Do?

Remembering Shirley Temple Black, I reprint here a tribute I wrote to her in 2013 … Lately I’ve been thinking about a childhood hero of mine, Shirley Temple. I spent hours and hours watching her pluckily tap dance down the steps of her mansion or street busk with abandon with buddies like Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson. Now […]

How (and Why) Not to Run From Your Pain

Last night I dreamt about a magical woodchuck who jumped in my car while I was driving. The woodchuck – whose tail was straight out of a cartoon – was actually kind of cute. And annoying, like a little brother. And what did I do? I tried to kill it. ‘It’s a wild animal!’ I […]

Kali & Me: A New Love Affair

No, I don’t have a new love interest. But I have fallen in love with someone unlikely – Kali. Kali is the Hindu Goddess of Time and Change. She is a fierce warrior, wife of Shiva, the Lord of Death, and a kick butt goddess who is all about embracing chaos and change. She’s my […]

Meeting My Family Again … For the First Time

For the last three weeks I have been staying with family in New York City and the Philadelphia suburbs not far from where I grew up. Originally the decision was practical – waiting in the East Coast for my nephew’s wedding on my way home to California from Europe. What I never could have guessed […]

When In Doubt, Grow Apples

Lately I’ve been having some powerful lessons in relaxing, letting go of a ‘schedule’ for my work, and trusting God to deliver me to the perfect business. This is how it looks when you are an entrepreneur doing your best to work with your guidance. Sometimes you have SUCH a clear path it’s awesome! Things […]
