Suzanne Falter is an author, speaker and blogger who over the years has helped more than two million people find their way back to joy. These days she writes fearless stories -- novels about uncommon heroes who overcome the odds, and a memoir about finding her way back to real happiness after the sudden death of her daughter Teal. Her latest fiction series, Transformed, follows a transman spy and a society dominatrix's adventures around the world. She is the author of the book, Surrendering to Joy as well as How Much Joy Can You Stand? and Living Your Joy (both Ballantine.) One is a funny, edgy novel about a transman (female to male transgender) spy named Charley who is both deeply intuitive and fearless. Set in San Francisco, it's follows Charley's midlife crisis as he befriends a lesbian police sergeant and a society dominatrix ... also having crises of their own.

My other book is a memoir about the huge personal transformation I went through after my daughter, Teal, suddenly died in 2012. Not long after she died, Teal emerged as a presence I can only describe as angelic. She began to guide me on a very specific course of healing from the afterlife ... and I followed. (less)

This is true whether I'm in fiction or non fiction mode ... as I can only experience life, and describe it, through my own lens. So be as honest as you can, and don't forget the poetry is in the details. (That's where the fun is, as well!)

When I published my first book, Doin' the Box Step, I 'knew' it would be published -- I just never let go of that truth. And it worked (Random House was my first publisher.) Then when I published my first non-fiction title, How Much Joy Can You Stand?, I 'knew' I would get a big deal from a major publisher -- which I did. It took three years of persisting, 28 rejections, two major rewrites, learning how to be my own agent and negotiate contracts, as well as signing with a small press. All before the two book deal with Ballantine. Faith, my friend. Just try to hang in there and believe in yourself!(less)

I’m a very nice person … perhaps too nice sometimes. And truthfully? Underneath that well-groomed, well-behaved exterior, a tiger lies in wait.

The fact is I can get angry. Very angry. So I’ve had to learn how to work with the behemoth that is my anger.

Here’s how it goes.

Someone around me is having a bad day, or maybe a particularly harried moment. They snap. My hackles go up, and I snarl back....
