And there it is! Today's Best Typo

And it's a goody and well in keeping with the usual ilk.

"Micum used the tongs from the mantelpiece to light his pile with an ember from the fire." (for those of you who don't know, "pile" is an old word for hemroid)

I really to make myself laugh sometimes, or maybe it's just the 18 glasses of iced tea I've had so far today . . . Punchy? Me?

I Really Need to Be More Serious in My Posts

Sometimes I worry that I put too much personal stuff and fluff into my LJ. I should be holding forth on the technical aspects of my craft. To that end, when I'm asked to speak on writing, I find it very complex and hard to distill into laymen's terms. . . No wait. "I make shit up." Yep, that's today's lesson.

(I'd like to make that up into a button to wear at conventions and literary functions: "Professional Author: I make shit up."

Spoke too soon

Yesterday morning I called for Skit and out she popped from among some boxes, yelling her hunger. I guess we're not catless after all, just have a cat we can't touch or hold. Although maybe if she gets lonely without Oscar, she'll be friendlier to us.

Doug shakes his head, pointing out that we buy her food and medical care without getting much back, but hey, she chose us, right? We're both happy she's safe.

Catless: RIP Oscar

Sad to say, our obese diabetic garage cat Oscar passed away quietly in his sleep while I was away at the Rainforest Writers Retreat. Since then Skit, his best friend, seems to have abandoned us. I haven't seen her in days.

So for the first time in 30 years, we are catless, but well dogged.
