Choosing your Tense and Point-of-View
This is an excellent POV guide!
Originally posted on The Aeon Academy:
The point-of-view of your story and the tense its written in has a huge impact on the structure of your novel and feel of narration. Done well, your POV and tense will work seamlessly together to create an engaging tale and believable characters. Done poorly, the reader can be left feeling disjunct from whats happening. This article is a (very) short introduction to the main POVs and tenses, as well as tips for using them.

WiP
Here is the opening paragraph of something I’ve been working on for a few weeks now.
The stage door slammed shut behind Zoe with a loud and final bang. The lock engaged, a deafening click that vibrated inside her skull. The metal was hard against her back, a solid barrier between her and everything she had ever dreamed. She touched the cool surface behind her, just a slight brush of her fingertips, then squared her shoulders and stepped out into the sidewalk traffic. There was no going back. That way was closed.
What do you think? What are you working on today?

BLURB: Lindsay could write the book on falling in lovewith the wrong guy. From bad boys to a married man, shes made one bad choice after another, gravitating toward men destined to hurt her. Except at her brothers wedding. This time, shes drawn to a good guythe pastor. Ben is handsome, single, and definitely interested. But with her past mistakes, maybe Ben is too good…
After two tours in the Middle East, Ben returned home needing peace and purpose. He found it as pastor of a laid-back, small-town church. Theres just one thing missing from his lifelove. In a community of a couple thousand, his options are limited. Until Lindsay comes to town for a wedding. Sparks fly between them, but shes skittish. If Ben wants her to stay, hell have to convince her that hes more than a man of Godhes the right man for her.
