Simba Plays Near Brattleboro June 21

Simba will play a public concert in Dummerston, Vermont, near Brattleboro, on June 21. The evening concert will be at the Grange hall at the corner of East-West and Middle roads in Dummerston. At least 100 people danced to the music of Simba for hours at a recent concert near Brattleboro. The band plays reggae and funk, among other kinds of music.

Activists Blast Planned Polluting Factory Near Keene

On May 9, a group of activists attended a public hearing in Winchester, New Hampshire, near Keene, to try to stop a proposed asphalt factory in Winchester. Asphalt is made of fossil fuels. Photos: Springfield Bank Protest

In Springfield on May 7, dozens of activists occupied the Bank of America branch on Oak Street to protest the multi-billion dollar corporation's decision to force poor people out of their homes. The action was organized by the No One Leaves Campaign, spokesman Malcolm Chu told the Valley Post.

The occupation followed a march up State Street with marchers chanting "Bank of America, Bad for America!"

Public Can Watch Entergy v. Shumlin in Brattleboro June 23

On June 23, the trial of Entergy versus Shumlin will begin in a federal courtroom in Brattleboro. The public can attend. In April, Entergy Corporation of Louisiana sued Vermont governor Peter Shumlin because the people of Vermont used the democratic process to order Entergy to close its Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in March 2012. Vermont Yankee is three miles from Massachusetts and a stone's throw from New Hampshire.

Like a Leech, Wal-Mart Returns to Greenfield

Wal-Mart wants to build a massive new store and parking lot, destroying open space in Greenfield. The town Planning Board will hold a meeting about Wal-Mart's scheme on May 5. "Please save the date, and encourage your friends to come and show their opposition to this environmentally and economically valueless plan," said Greenfield resident Al Norman.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at 114 Main Street.
