Worker Safety March Is April 24

In 2005, Rob Hackley, a worker at a Pepsi factory in Florida, was burned so seriously that doctors had to perform surgery on him twice. He barely survived. Concert Review: Sierra Leone All Stars

In Northampton, the Iron Horse Music Hall has concerts almost every night of the year. It regularly hosts world famous musicians like Michael Franti and Dar Williams. On April 9, one of the best concerts in years at the Iron Horse was performed by the Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars. The dance floor was full of people of all colors, and full of energy, reflecting the full-on performance on the stage.

The band released a new album, Libation, last month. Most of the songs on the album are Afro-Po...

Entergy Wants to End Nuke Emergency Alert System

The owner of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant wants to end the system of sirens, free “tone alert radios” for people within 10 miles of the reactor, and automated phone calls in case of a nuclear emergency. The protesters believe she was fired for publicly asking Wal-Mart to pay its workers a livable wage.

Wal-Mart is owned by the richest family in the world, the billionaire Waltons. The Walton family pays workers at Wal-Mart factories among the lowest wages i...

Sierra Leone All Stars Concert Is April 9

The Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars will perform a public concert in Northampton on April 9. The 7 p.m. concert will be at the Iron Horse Music Hall. The band performed an excellent concert at the Iron Horse last summer. The club appeared to be almost sold out and most of the people there danced.

In 2012, the All Stars released an outstanding album, Radio Salone. Most of the songs on the album are Afro-Pop or “high life” style. Some are reggae. The band released a new album on March 18.
