Eviction Protest Is November 18 In Springfield

Activists are asking the public to attend a rally outside the home of a low income man in Springfield who is being threatened with eviction. The bank that wants to evict Jeff Solivan is Fannie Mae Corporation, whose CEO was paid $6 million in 2010, the most recent year for which data was available.


The rally is set for November 18 at 9 a.m. at 32 Edgemont Street in Springfield. The group that is organizing the rally has a web site at www.SpringfieldNoOneLeaves.org.

100 at Public Hearing for Proposed Bike-Ped Bridge

About 100 supporters of a proposed bicycle-pedestrian bridge over the Connecticut river in Northfield, Massachusetts attended a meeting with state officials. Northfield borders Vermont and is near Greenfield. No one opposed the bridge at the meeting. State senator Stan Rosenberg was at the October 30 meeting in Northfield.

64 Protesters Arrested

At the office of Vermont governor Peter Shumlin, 64 people were arrested for non-violent, civil disobedience October 27. They were protesting his support for a proposed fracked gas pipeline in Vermont. Shumlin is from Putney, Vermont, near Brattleboro.


Fracked gas is a climate change-causing fossil fuel. Scientists say climate change is a threat to human life on earth.

1,700 Workers Strike

Telephone and internet workers are on strike. They are asking the public to join their picket lines in Brattleboro and Keene. More than 1,700 workers at Fairpoint Corporation are on strike in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The company is the monopoly provider of landline telephone and DSL internet in those states.


Fairpoint is based in North Carolina. It wants to cut wages for workers it hires in the future by 40 percent.
