Friday's Song

On this day in 1924, the first Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade was...er, paraded.

Thursday's Song

It's Thanksgiving. Today's song comes without a Youtube video, because the only video I could find of it had a suspicious website name scrawled across the bottom of it, and the words "block obama" in the description. Very un-holiday like! Anyway, the song I've chosen is from Mary Chapin Carpenter's Come Darkness Come Light:

Music Review: Neko Case, "Blacklisted"

I can't remember the first time I heard Neko Case. Her voice backs every Gothic, romantic, dreamlike moment I've had for years. She once cited David Lynch's favorite composer, Angelo Badalamenti, as an inspiration on her career, and that is evident. The guitars echoing, the pianos flaking, the vocals soaring like haunted house wails, it's a wonder how Lynch hasn't gobbled her up for a film soundtrack. Her voice reminds me of a twisted Loretta Lynn. There's more menace in her voice than there ...
