Thieves' Quarry is now out in Paperback!!

Quarry120Today is the release day for the paperback edition of Thieves' Quarry, book II in the Thieftaker Chronicles.  Paperback release days aren't quite as exciting as hardcover release days (and I have one of those coming up for A Plunder of Souls, the third Thieftaker book, in a little over a month).  Thieves' Quarry has been out in hardcover for almost a year now, and it's also been available as an ebook and an audiobook.  So, this paperback release might seem like a bit of an anticlimax -- a so-what moment.  But the fact is, many readers can't afford hardcovers.  Some don't have e-readers and don't spend enough time in their cars to justify the purchase of an audio book. For them, the paperback release of a long-awaited novel is a big deal.  So, I'm very happy to say that the paperback of Thieves' Quarry is out and it looks great.  I hope that if you've been holding off on buying the book to this point, you'll check it out now. And I hope you enjoy it. DBTQmmRelease

A Post About My New E-Reader

I'm over at SFNovelists today -- that's the site I help to maintain with over one hundred other published authors of fantasy and science fiction.  I'm writing about my new E-reader in a post called "My New E-Reader and Me:  A Match Made in 'Meh.'" I hope you enjoy it.

Blog and Signing Tours Announced

Plunder Of Souls banner
Today, I am happy to announce that the preliminary schedule for the Summer 2014 Plunder of Souls Blog Tour is up and available for perusal at the D.B. Jackson website.  This is a preliminary schedule not because I expect the dates on there to change, but rather because I expect to be adding more and more events all summer long.  Right now, I have more than two dozen stops planned.  Plunder Of Souls blog tour button I also have these cool new graphics that the wonderful people at Tor came up with -- the banner up top and the "blog tour button."  Don't you love them?  I do.

A Plunder of Souls, for those who don't know, is the third volume in my Thieftaker  Chronicles, which began with Thieftaker and Thieves' QuarryThieftaker is available now in hardcover, paperback, ebook format and audio format.  Thieves' Quarry is out in haardcover, ebook, and audio, and will be released in paperback on June 3.  For more on these books and all the thieftaker short fiction currently available, please visit my website.

I think it bears mentioning that blog tours are impossible without the generosity and forbearance of blog tour hosts, and I am so grateful to all the great folks who intend to welcome me to their sites this summer.

I am also happy to report that my appearances page (also at the D.B. Jackson website) has been updated with several book signing dates.  I'll be doing a small book tour this summer in the Carolinas and Virginia; again, I hope and expect to add more dates as the summer approaches.  And I hope to see many of you along the way.

A Post About Writing and Photography

I'm at SFNovelists today, with a blog post about the similarities among various art forms.  Specifically, I'm discussing a few lessons I've learned doing photography that translate to my writing life.  The post can be found here. I hope you enjoy it.

A Post Goes Up and a New Short Story Drops!

Today, I am back at Magical Words, the blog on the craft and business of writing that I co-founded with Faith Hunter and Misty Massey, writing about creating characters, and celebrating the release of the newest Thieftaker short story, "The Price of Doing Business."  The story can be found today at Tor.com. It is about Ethan Kaille's first encounter with the lovely and deadly Sephira Pryce, who would become his rival in thieftaking and his arch nemesis.  The post can be found here.  I hope that you will check out both the story and the post, and I hope that you enjoy them both.

A Post About Plotting and Pantsing at Magical Words

After about a six-week hiatus from posting, I am back at Magical Words, the blogsite on the craft and business of writing that I co-founded and continue to maintain with Faith Hunter and Misty Massey.  Today's post is about plotting and pantsing, and the ways in which the nature of the book itself can dictate the best approach to take.  It is called, "The Plotter Goes Pantsing:  The Relationship Between Process and Product."

I have spent the past several weeks finishing one book, revising another, and writing the early chapters of a third. For the last few days I've been proofreading the galleys for yet another novel, A Plunder of Souls, the third Thieftaker book.  Busy times, but as any writer will tell you, busy is good.  It's nice, though, to be posting again, and I hope that this marks the first of more posts to come in the coming weeks and months.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy today's essay.

A Post on Tomatoes and Writers (Yes, There is a Connection . . .)

My post today can be found at Magical Words, the group blog about the craft and business of writing that I maintain, under the name David B. Coe, with fellow authors Faith Hunter, Misty Massey, John Hartness, and Mindy Klasky, among others.  The post is called "On Writing: Knowledge Versus Wisdom" and it is about the truisms we encounter as writers and the ways in which they are both accurate and misleading.  I hope you enjoy the post.

Two Related Posts on the Business of Writing, Both Up Today

I have two related, cross-linked posts up today.  They are both on the business of writing and publishing.

The first post is my regular Monday post at the Magical Words blog site, which I maintain with fellow authors Faith Hunter, Misty Massey, John Hartness, and Mindy Klasky.  Today's Magical Words post is called, "'It's Just Business': Loyalty Versus Pragmatism in the Publishing World," and it is about the various factors that go into a writer's career decisions.  You can find the post here.

The second is my monthly post at the SFNovelists blog site, a site I maintain with over one hundred published authors of speculative fiction.  That post is called "Professional Comportment and What it Does For a Writer," and it is about the ways in which an author can maintain a good relationship with his/her publisher.  You can find the SFNovelists post here.

I hope that you enjoy both posts and find them helpful and informative. Thanks!
