What was cool is to see bits of the original story weaving through this VERY cool, modern take... I loved seeing her world expand through the book... fun read

I Read Indie wanted me to do a Top 10's List. Here is questions #1:
 1. guilty pleasure?
Playing Shoot Bubble Deluxe on my cell phone. Why guilty? Because I have a habit of doing it when I should be doing other things (like writing) and I become kind of obsessed with it. I spent months trying to pass level 63! (Which I finally did only 3 days before getting a new phone, now I have to start over.)

This book was fabulous. I don't know what I expected but it totally went above and beyond my expectations… The characters were sweet and endearing, Rapunzel was charming and easy to like, and I may or may not have a slight crush on Fane now…It was fresh and very original…It was fresh and very original.

Here’s some of what Read a Book said about Rapunzel Untangled :

An entertaining story . . . Placing the story in the present time gives a fresh and interesting twist . . . an entertaining story of romance and fun.

Here's what Book Nerd and Proud had to say:

The story starts out light, and gets darker as it progresses. Kind of like Gothel, she seems to be pretty sane when the story starts but as it goes on she gets crazier. I do understand her extreme views, and I really enjoyed the twist of Vedmak, it was unexpected.

Here’s some of what Author Karey White said about RapunzelUntangled :
First off, look at that cover. It's gorgeous and fits the book so perfectly. I was lucky enough to read this before it came out and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like reworkings of fairy tales and Rapunzel has always been a favorite of mine. Cindy did a great job with this. The characters were interesting and well-developed. She managed to move this story into modern day without it being hokey or silly.
For more of Author KareyWhites review or my interview click here.
Here’s some of what Debz Bookshelf said about RapunzelUntangled:
This was such a fun, lighthearted retelling of one of my favorite fairy tales…The romance was sweet and light… Rapunzel Untangled was a fast, fun retelling that I definitely recommend to fans of Rapunzel (especially Tangled)!... I’d heard nothing about this book until I saw it on NetGalley. The cover grabbed my attention, and I’d already requested it before I could even read the description. It’s sleek and clean, but still fun. It’s a great reflection of what’s waiting inside.

Here’s some of what Bokalskarinnan said about RapunzelUntangled :
I have just finished this one and it was amazing…A Rapunzel story you maybe ain't read before. If you loved the story about Rapunzel when you was a little child you may just love this version of her.

It is one of the most enchanting stories I’ve read…Cindy C. Bennett wowed me with this cleverly woven epic. I could read it again and again.

Rapunzel Untangled Blog Tour Begins Today!

A Girl Trapped in a Mansion
A Mysterious Old Woman
The Boy Who Will Change Everything
It's day 1 of the Rapunzel Untangled blog tour! I'd like to thank Books for Kids and Coffee, Books and Me for being the first two stops on the tour that runs from now until the 24th. Be sure to stop by their blogs to enter to win a Nook, an MP3 player, a copy of Rapunzel Untangled, or any of the other prizes!

Here's some of what Dena at Books for Kids had to say about Rapunzel Untangled :

Photobucket Rapunzel Untangled has joined my list of favorite teen reads for the year. . . One of the enjoyable aspects of this story was that it takes place in the present day. . . I enjoyed the relationship between Rapunzel and Fane, and I loved that while they were instantly attracted to one another, it took time for their relationship to develop into something more than friendship. The content was perfectly clean, and I really appreciate that in a young adult novel.

Here's some of what Jenna at Coffee, Books & Me had to say about Rapunzel Untangled:

Coffee, Books, and Me If you love love stories and fairy tales, well, this is Rapunzel’s modern version, and Cindy Bennett caught the perfect tone and taste of the original story but blended it greatly with our modern setting. . . I love that I can see the original Rapunzel story in the novel yet it was also able to stand up on its own, with its own twist and additional wicked evil antagonists. . . Rapunzel Untangled is a definite must-read charmer for all fairytale and YA contemporary fans.

Rapunzel in Seattle

Rapunzel Untangled was reviewed on Thursday in the Seattle Post Intelligencer! Joanna Celeste of blogcritics.org had this to say:

A brilliant retelling of the classic fairy tale, Rapunzel Untangled gives an old story a modern twist that often had me laughing.
Bennett's "Author's Note" at the outset gives us the heads-up that this yarn will be a unique adventure, and it truly is.
In this alternate universe, Rapunzel is a girl who lives alone with her mother, marooned to the world by an illness that makes her über-susceptible to germs. (She's not quite forced into a bubble, but it's close.)
Her only connection to the outside is via the Internet, which was necessary for her homeschooling projects. One fateful day, Rapunzel Facebook-friends a stranger named Fab Fane Flannigan.
Their budding friendship shifts her world, introducing her to wondrous things like M&Ms, and she can't go back to the way things were before.

The sweet romance is especially touching when Rapunzel might just be killed by a kiss, and her tenderness with Fab Fane is expressed in other ways.
But her mother has a reason to keep her safe-keep her hidden-that has nothing whatsoever to do with Rapunzel's best interests.

This is a YA, though [vague spoilers for those interested in adult subject matter] there are some scary scenes, a short imprisonment and a starvation-deprivation-torture sequence-it wasn't graphic but mildly psychologically terrifying-appropriate for 13+?
I love that this retelling of Rapunzel, Untangled is so refreshingly different from the original story that it's impossible to know how the story ends. It was hard to put the book down, and when the climax approached I had no idea what to expect. Will love conquer evil, or will Rapunzel meet her destiny-and possibly her death?
As someone who enjoys good fairy tales, this story was a real treat.

So, yeah, I'm doing a little squealing, happy dance! Thanks, Joanna, and Seattle Post Intelligencer!
