Sometimes an author reads a novel that makes him feel...

Sometimes an author reads a novel that makes him feel simultaneously like a shitty writer and quite proud to be considered part of the profession.  Karen Thompson Walker’s ethereal debut, The Age of Miracles, is one such novel. Read it and fall in love with books all over again.

Small Town

Today my niece and I wanted ice cream, but the ice cream parlor on Main Street was closed. It is Sunday, after all, in Springhill, Louisiana. But, alas, the kind owner was standing outside chatting with someone and saw our desperation. Today is the day my niece and I opened up an ice cream shop and were its sole customers.

the special little book, the perks of being a wallflower gave hope to a generation of readers, and in hands of actors emma watson, logan lerman, ezra miller, and write/director stephen chbosky, the film is just as inspirational. remember, you are infinite.

In July, I got to meet Stephen Chbosky just a couple of hours before accepting the Printz award at ALA in Anaheim.  He was there to give a special screening of his film The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which he wrote and directed, based on his beautiful novel.  You won’t find a nicer, more humble gentleman if you try.  He signed my copy of the book and we got to chat for a while and it was one of the highlights of a pretty life-changing year for me.

This Friday, I finally get to see the movie I’ve been waiting for since I was 17 and I couldn’t be more excited.  They will also be handing out copies of WHERE THINGS COME BACK at select theaters in the Northeast.  That is mindblowing. Crazy. Surreal.

Go see it.  Then go re-read it.  Then do both of those things over again.
