rachelfershleiser:

This week, I’m in Charleston, South Carolina for YallFest, the Young Adult Book Festival run by the amazing folks at Blue Bicycle Books. 44 incredible authors will be here, including Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Melissa de la Cruz, Ellen Hopkins, David Levithan, Beth Revis, and John Corey Whaley. Tumblr is very proud to be a sponsor and I am very excited to meet everyone! If you’re in the area, don’t miss it! If not, be sure to follow the YallFest Tumblr. It’s already full of exclusive interviews, and will be the place for great coverage all fest long — quotes, info, pictures, and even livestreams of events. Long live YA Lit!

Election.

Friends, this is my final post concerning the Presidential Election.
I’m sad that this all became about the economy when it really is about so much more. It is about civil rights for decades to come. It is about a woman’s right to earn equal pay and to control what happens to her own body. It is about a homosexual’s right to enjoy the same freedoms that his or her neighbors enjoy. It is abou

t the right of lower and middle income families to seek the medical attention they may need. This election is about changing the way we treat our world—about earning the right to continue to call ourselves the greatest nation on Earth. We don’t get that by default, we get that by proving to the rest of the world that no matter how dire the situation, we find a way to make sure that our people, ALL of our people, are treated as equals, are protected by neighbor and country despite religious affiliation, despite sexual orientation, despite socioeconomic status. I voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 and I (early) voted for him in one of our country’s most conservative states (TX) just last week. And, I couldn’t be prouder of those votes. I have no doubts. I only say all this in the hope that when you (and I hope you will) go to the polls this Tuesday, you feel the same rush of pride and certainty that I felt. I hope you know that what you’ve done isn’t for the benefit of some, but of all.
