My Freebie List by Robyn DeHart + Giveaway

If you haven’t already noticed us romance writers have a thing for hot guys. I’d say it was all women, but I do hate to make generalizations. But I do know romance writers and well, we take it upon ourselves to survey the goods (as it were) so that we can create unforgettable heroes that our readers can fall in love with. It’s hard work, looking at all those pictures on-line, but hey we sacrifice our time for you, readers, because we love you and we’re dedicated to our jobs.

So remember that episode of Friends where they all discuss who would be on their freebie list?

 

I made my list once, I don’t recall who I put it on it then, but I thought I’d see where I am now. I’m approaching 40 (in a year or two) and certainly my tastes have evolved. So I set out to see who would make the cut and who wouldn’t. Without further ado, I present my list of freebies…

Johnny Depp

Regardless of my age (or his perhaps) I suspect that one fella will always top my list. Ah…Johnny…there’s just something about him. The eyes, the attitude, the intensity. Even as Captain Jack with dreads and eyeliner and rotten teeth, he still gets me going.

Jonny Lee Miller

While I’m talking about Johnny’s, I’ll just move onto my number 2 spot which goes to Jonny Lee Miller. I’ve had a “thing” for him since Hackers (my guilty pleasure movie which I can still watch again and again). Something about his eyes and his facial structure and expressions. I don’t know. Now I’m loving him as Sherlock on Elementary. I love how physical he is in the role and well, he’s just really pretty to look at.

Henry Cavill

Recently I was searching for the right picture to go with the hero for an upcoming book and a reader suggested Henry Cavill. Sadly I was not as familiar with this actor and so I googled him. Well, I’ve become quite acquainted with this face (and coincidentally did pick him for that hero, you’ll meet him in A LITTLE BIT SCANDALOUS this summer). In any case Mr. Cavill is in a word, gorgeous. He’s got that devil-may-care attitude and it just gives me the shivers.

Joseph Fiennes

Intense eyes, chiseled jaw, sexy accent…why is Joseph Fiennes not in more stuff? I even watched the short lived Flash Forward for him. Sigh. He’s yummy, really, really yummy. Did I mention his intense eyes? Enough said.

And this is where you come in, dear readers, I can’t settle on a fifth. Brad Pitt? No, he’s too pretty and often entirely too hairy. Hugh Dancy? I’ve been looking at him a lot lately as he’s also the model for an upcoming hero. In many pics he strikes the right tone, but in others he’s entirely too fresh-faced and boyish. Colin Firth? Richard Armitage?

Quick Wave to Fans & One Last Giveaway

November is a really busy month for me. I’m doing copy edits for WHAT A WICKED EARL WANTS coming in May 2013! Copy edits are done by a copy editor who catches all the little mistakes I’m liable to gloss over because by now I’ve practically memorized the book LOL.

On my very first school report my teacher said ‘Nicole likes to tell her own stories’.

It wasn’t until after the birth of my daughter and after having fun on the community board of eharlequin.com that I finally decided to take the plunge and write a book.

I joined the fabulous Romance Writers of Australia and evenutally linked up with a great group of girls and we formed “WINKGirls”

The stories I write are contemporary romances with either a medical setting or in the boardrooms of high powered business. It’s fun and unique to take two characters and create unique situations for them.

Apart from writing I’m busy looking after my very own hero – my wonderfully supportive husband, and my two fabulous kids. I also enjoying watching sports and, of course, reading.

I grew up in Wiltshire in southwest England. During my misspent youth I devoured the works of Georgette Heyer, Jean Plaidy and any other historical novels I could lay hands on. As a result I attended the University of Oxford to study history, ignoring all hints that economics might be a more practical subject. I spent several years writing catalogues of rare books and original letters and manuscripts for Sotheby’s auction house in London and New York. Much of my time in this job was spent reading the personal correspondence of the famous. This confirmed my suspicion that the most interesting thing about history is people. I’m also a sucker for a happy ending: I howled in the back of geography class when I was supposed to be learning about German coalfields because I hated –HATED — the end of Gone With The Wind. I still haven’t forgiven Margaret Mitchell.

A few years ago I decided to write an historical romance. How hard could it be? Wrong. Several manuscripts under-the-bed (or deep in the hard drive) later, HarperCollins bought NEVER RESIST TEMPTATION, published in 2009 by Avon Books. Since then I’ve completed the four books in the Burgundy Club series. I’ve embarked on a new writing adventure, a series set in the very beginning of the nineteenth century with a whole new cast of characters. THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING WICKED will be released in December 2012.

I now live in beautiful rural Vermont. I have a grown daughter and a large ginger cat. I am always happy to be distracted from gainful employment by cooking (30 minute recipes only), gardening (don’t look at the weeds), cross-country skiiing, arguing about unimportant topics, and general procrastinating.
