Tease #2

Here is the back cover blurb for Equipoise:

Ennek, the son of the Chief, and Miner, a former slave, have escaped the totalitarian city-state of Praesidium and remain fugitives. Having defeated two mighty wizards, they begin to realize that complete freedom can be as dangerous as absolute power. In this final book in the trilogy that began with Stasis and continued with Flux, Ennek and Miner face battles, corruption, and further journeys through lands both new and familiar. As they grow more secure in their relationship with one other, they're also learning that the greatest challenges sometimes come from very close to the heart and that everything of value has a price. With the help of a few allies, they seek equipoise—a balance for themselves and for their world.

Spring semester

The new semester begins this week. I enjoy my classes and my students, but dread the resumption of meetings and paperwork and high academic drama. My muse has been especially active lately, I think in self defense. The more other work I ought to be doing, the more she insists that I write, dammit.

I picture my muse as a middle-aged, gray-haired lady in a dominatrix outfit. She has a riding crop in her hand and she does not accept excuses. And she has zero patience for meetings.

Equipoise

My family and I just returned from a cruise to Mexico, during which I ate, drank, and worked on the final edits for the third book in the Praesidium series. The title is Equipoise, which means a state of balance or equilibrium. The ship was the perfect place to work on the book, because most of the action takes place on or near the ocean. And the new book will feature nautically-themed cover photos, taken during my recent trip to San Francisco.

I still have to do the fiddly bits on the cover and text design and then read the thing over one more time. If all goes well, the book should be available in print and Kindle versions within a few weeks. In the meantime, if you haven't read the second book, Flux, now is a good time for it.

Participating authors get a share in a pot of money each month. I will still donate my share to Doctors Without Borders.
