Beautiful Creatures Movie Review

beautiful-creatures-character-poster

I am thrilled to say that the other day I got to see the Beautiful Creatures movie.

Now, I am a big fan of the books and have been since Kami and Margaret’s debut so all those thoughts you are thinking;

‘Will is live up to the novels?’,

‘What???? Amma and Marian are one person?’

‘WAIT a second… Ridley is blonde… and punk sexy not some brunette!’

Yeah, those thoughts. I had them too. Until I sat through the movie and as the credits rolled and Kami and Margaret’s names popped up and I nearly burst into tears I was so happy for them. Now I can’t promise that all of the book fans will like the movie but personally I was swept off my feet. The thing that caught me the most off guard was just how close they got to the novel even down to some of my favorite dialogue!

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES

The overall heart of the story was there. Yes, you will see differences. After all, this is a two hour movie versus a 563 page book. The only difference that got to me was a hair color but even that at least I got for one scene as shown below (though yes, for those of us who had a serious adoration for both Amma and Marian it is a serious adjustment but one that they managed to tie and have made sense in a new way)

For all of my book purists out there, no not all of your favorite scenes will be included but personally the majority of mine were. Titanic, raining on Ethan, the big kiss, what it means to be human, the locket and so much more.

Beautiful Creatures

Now, on to the cast. I actually adored both Alice and Alden.

But who really stood out to me as COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY PERFECTLY CAST wasJeremy Irons Beautiful Creatures

That’s right, Macon.

The man we have all come to know and love was played by Jeremy Irons and let me just say it is a perfect match.

Overall, an amazing adaptation that I am gladly going to purchase on DVD when it comes out. Some movies take away from your love of a story and others capture it, I found this novel embracing Lena and Ethan’s unique romance and giving the audience a view into the poetic beauty of the series from the point of view of our favorite down to earth bookworm, Ethan.

As movies go this one was a 5/5 star for me. While I will always prefer a book over a movie this is a movie I am looking forward to watching again and again as I reread these amazing novels again and again and revisit Ethan and Lena’s wonderful story whenever I find myself missing them.

What did you think?

Have you seen the Beautiful Creatures film yet?

What do you think? Love them? Hate them?

What book covers are you having a cover love affair with?

The Fault in our Stars Recommendation

Now, I know what my normal recommendations would look like but this book has changed my life so this one is going to be a little bit different.
Dear John Green,I almost couldn't write this recommendation for your novel because of your quote I now have posted above my bed:

"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book. And then there are books which you can't tell people about, books so special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal."
So many people quote the first half, about needing the world to read a book but they forget the second half which is the half that means the most to me.
The Fault in our Stars is that novel for me and I know I am not the only one. This book is the perfect example of why I always wanted to be an author, because sometimes words are everything and living the life of another (even if fictional) for just a few brief moments can give your life new meaning. I didn't have a great past (my friends joke that I am a series of unfortunate events) so I have always cherished life but I also didn't feel that I had meaning. I had lost that long ago. This book gives everything meaning, every petal that blooms on every flower and there is something invigorating and extraordinary about that. It is so close to my heart because for once, I have found a book that shows that life isn't always fair, but it is always beautiful in its own messed, strange way. Thank you for reminding me that sometimes the past can hurt you and other times, it is worth remembering every moment even through the pain because life in itself is extraordinary and pain is a legacy left behind by those who didn't get the blessing you did of still being here.
Sincerely,EmmaTo my readers,

Now some of you might be sitting there like... uhhhh I thought this was a book about cancer... Don't you hate reading about cancer? Others of you who actually know my past know WHY I hate reading about cancer normally but The Fault in Our Stars has cancer as a central point but isn't ABOUT cancer. Now let me explain what I mean. Most novels that feature anything about cancer use cancer as a way to deepen the emotions and exploit the painful treatments and walking on the edge of the line between life and death.
John Green did not do this.

Instead this book is about Hazel and Augustus. He weaves characters so real and true to themselves that you aren't sitting there thinking about the cancer so much as them, their thoughts, their feelings and what everything means to them. Yes, cancer is something that has happened to them but in this novel, it does not in any way define them. You read this novel for the characters and the bittersweet romance, for the miracles most don't notice in their lives, for the way one person who is the one person most likely to destroy you can instead save you and make you a better version of yourself.

John Green, you will probably never see this but thank you. Thank you so much.
To my readers. I know cancer is scary but this book is worth every moment you will spend reading it and all the moments after where the story will still resonate with that part of you that remembers that sometimes it isn't the big miracles, it's the little ones.

The Anglerfish! Calling all Nerdfighters!

Hey everyone!
Wanted to help spread the word about this amazing EZine called The Anglerfish , a magazine for Nerdfighters, by Nerdfighters! Now you may not know this about me but I am a big VlogBrothers fan. I also happen to currently be obsessed with the works of John Green. So naturally when my bestie @KeriPayton from QuillCafe told me about a Nerdfighter magazine I was hoping it would be okay. Well, it is better than okay, so far there have been two issues and both have been downright epic!

Now ask yourself, what could make this epic amazingness more epic? That I am going crazy because there is an Owlet ad on the last page!!!
(Seriously, you HAVE to take the Pride&Prejudice personality quizz. I got Jane, who did you get?)
