in which winter isn't the worst, but is still lacking

So far, this winter isn't bothering me as much as winter usually does. I'm not a fan of its sharp wind and blustery mixes of depressing precipitation. Maybe it's because winter is only like three weeks old. But I think it's because I'm getting excited about my upcoming book release events, including a bookstore event in Chicago next month (details coming soon!). The anticipation keeps me warm.

I do miss summer fruit, though. Melons and berries, plums and nectarines. Oh, how I crave all...

pub date change

My friendly neighbors at Barnes & Noble are planning some exciting things for the Something Like Fate release. In order to make this happen, they have changed the book's pub date from May 18 to May 4, 2010. May 4 was the When It Happens pub date, so I'm loving how we've come full circle. I knew 2010 would be an auspicious year!

My sympathies go out to all of my teen people who had to get up in the cold darkness way too early this morning and go back to school. That is one harsh awakening after the break. Here in New York, the snow has almost melted. Except for these big snow piles from the street plows that will be blocking sidewalks for a while.  There's a magical quality to snow when it first falls that's just so peaceful.  Ever since the High Line opened last summer, I've been wondering how it will look in the snow. Happy winter solstice! Yes, I'm excited. Not for winter, because we all know that I don't do winter. I'm excited for daylight. Starting tomorrow, daylight hours will begin to increase and will continue to increase (by about two minutes per day) until the summer solstice in June. Bring on the light!
