nyc teen author festival 2010
I'm postponing my John Mayer concert entry to bring you breaking event news. The NYC Teen Author Festival details have been announced! This is the second annual Festival with even more authors attending, so if there's any way for you to be in New York City this month (hello, March, thrilled to see you as always!) you will want to make that happen. All events are free and open to the public.
Here's where you can find me during the Festival:

what a sweet dream came true
Have you entered the Shiny New Contest yet? It's your chance to win shiny new editions of When It Happens and Take Me There. All the contest details are here. You have until Sunday night to dazzle me with your brilliance!
Something major happened yesterday. A big dream of mine came true. Dreaming big is something I've always done. Despite all the times people have told me that the things I want the most are impossible, I've never stopped believing. They said I'd never have a book publis...

Wow! I'm so impressed with all the Shiny New Haiku I've already received. You have inspired me to write one of my own.

Yeah, it's been fun times around here. Neighbor gamer combined with upstairs neighbor shouting into his phone at two in the morning and downstairs neighbor snoring so loudly I can hear it through the floor has been quite a ride. It makes me look forward to spring even more. Once I can keep the wi...

shiny new contest
The shiny new paperback editions of When It Happens and Take Me There have been released! I just received my author copies, so you know what that means. It's time for another contest so I can give away some books. Because there's no way all of these are fitting in my place:

I'm calling this the Shiny New Contest. Two prizes will be awarded. First prize is a copy of each new paperback edition. The runner-up will receive one copy of their choice. To enter, compose a haiku (3-5-3 or 5-7-5) ...

My morning of travel to Chicago did not begin on a positive note. I woke up to the news of a plane crash in New Jersey and a winter weather advisory. Not at all what I was hoping for on my first flight alone since September 11. Fortunately, things started looking up at the airport when I got lucky with an upgrade to first class. Warm Cookie Territory! It was funny because I assumed that there wouldn't be warm cookies on such a short flight. So after lunch, I went to the bathroom to brus...

intense
A certain company that rhymes with Shmetshmlix is being a stingy little beeyotch with my Ally McBeal. Which means I had to move on to the next show in my queue, Prison Break. When I was teaching, it would not be unusual for me to bust out with some Jack Bauer scenarios in the middle of class. Which is totally legit by the way. Running around yelling about securing the perimeter or sending coordinates to my PDA relates to so many Earth Science topics - entropy, molecular energy, density, e...

It's Funday Friday over at The Truth About Books! I'm psyched that Tricia has posted an interview with me today. Something Like Fate, inspiration, and my desert island picks (with some cheating - I couldn't help it!) are all part of the funday. It's a relatively new super cute blog, so why not head on over and share the love?

snow day
Today was a snow day. Here in New York, this is a big deal. Our public schools are never closed. Plus, the snow day was announced a whole day early, which never ever happens. There were only two or three snow days in the entire last decade. (What did we decide to call that, by the way? The aughts? The 2000s? Personally, I call it the 00s, which I pronounce "the oh-oh's"). But yeah, snow days are a rare thing around these parts, no matter how much snow we get.

workspace
Could I be anticipating spring any more? No, I could not. February is the coldest month and it's always the time when I feel like I've been activating my Warming Plan forever. Boots and knee socks every day just wear on the soul, even if my socks are fun Juno style ones. The thing is, even a negative situation has a positive side. One good thing about it being brutal out is that I have a lot of work to do, so I'm not missing outside time. I am in revision mode. And I'm enjoying quality...

1. A reminder for those of you in the Chicago area: I will be reading on Tuesday, February 16 at 5:30 at Anderson's Warehouse in Aurora, IL. They're located at 520 N. Exchange Ct.. The rumor is that review copies of Something Like Fate will be available for everyone. You can contact Anderson's for more info at 630.820.0044.
2. I've been hearing these rumbling noises next door for a while, like my neighbor is watching movies with lots of exploding things. A few nights ago around midnight...
