I've posted 5 reviews since starting my blog Books, Places, Life at the end of September. The most recent was of The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides, and next up will be Florence & Giles by John Harding, a Gothic style story set in New England in 1891 and very loosely based on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The reviews are going down well and I'm loving writing them, although as you say doing a proper job of it is hard work. Please come and have a look at: isabelcostello.wordpress.com

I reviewed Welcome to Fred by Brad Whittington and Caught in the Winds by LD Wenzel last week. I've scheduled the posts so it isn't live on my blog now. Review that was posted on my blog last week is Coffee at Little Angels by Nadine Rose Larter - http://sugarpeach.wordpress.com/2011/....
I am always open to reviewing books. Read my review policy (http://sugarpeach.wordpress.com/for-b...) and then contact me (http://sugarpeach.wordpress.com/contact/). I don't bite, I promise. :)
I signed up for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge last week, so I'm pretty excited about that. I can't wait to read and review Young Adult or Middle Grade books published next year by debut authors! It's always a nice feeling when you discover a fantastic work by a debut author.

Last week I reviewed Something Different by S A Reid, which was a new read for me both in terms of the author and the type of novel (M/M Erotica): http://bookbagsandcatnaps.com/2011/11...
Only one review this week as I've been doing informational posts otherwise and working on Adopt an Indie month.
Love the shoutout idea. Have a great day!

I'm writing an adventure romance and decided to read 'River God' by Wilbur Smith to see how he does it - how he uses words to create a best-seller. How he uses romance, action, and also in an ancient milieu which doesn't have cellphones or plastic or cotton.
As always he is awesome, the plotting, how he runs action, the way he uses his narrator... it is all educational and above all FUN. At times funny too.

Lots of interesting reads. I also read several books many times over and over to recapture a certain style or way of improving my own. Certain writers are masters in specific areas.
I love it when a writer makes characters come alive, or paint a certain world.

I'm currently reading "Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West." Even though I'd heard of it before and was interested at what I thought was going to be the Wizard of Oz books through the Wicked Witch's POV, I didn't pick start reading it until I saw on an agent's bio that he's the agent for this author.
What I thought was going to be The Wizard of Oz books told through the Witch's POV is turning out to be about her entire life and then some. It's not what I wanted, but the writing is good and it's worth reading.

WOOT - BECAUSE OF YOU by Jessica Scott - http://www.randomhouse.com/book/21716...
From the war-torn streets of Baghdad to the bittersweet comforts of the home front, two wounded hearts navigate the battlefield of coming home from war in this explosive eBook original from newcomer Jessica Scott.
Keeping his men alive is all that matters to Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison. But meeting Jen St. James the night before his latest deployment makes Shane wonder if there's more to life than war. He leaves for Iraq remembering a single kiss with a woman he'll never see again—until a near fatal attack lands him back at home and in her care.
Jen has survived her own brush with death and endured its scars. And yet there's a fire in Shane that makes Jen forget all about her past. He may be her patient, but when this warrior looks her in the eyes, she feels—for the first time in a long time—like a woman. Shane is too proud to ask for help, but for Jen, caring for him is more than a duty—it's a need. And as Jen guides Shane through the fires of healing, she finds something she never expected—her deepest desire.
It's all about the romance - love it! $2.99
