Talking about Race at Black Girl in Maine

I am incredibly proud to have found the chutzpuh to write about this tricky topic on my blog tour. Shay at Black Girl in Maine was the inspiration for this post--oh and a small little racist comment my four-year-old made.

It is so important to think about thorny areas in our culture ahead of time--know that they will come up and actually prepare for them. Read my thoughts and suggestions here. At some point your child will notice differences, make judgments, and say things that shock you. Be ready!

Today's post is about paying attention to the other ways in which we communicate: not just with our words. Check out the post over at Holistic Moms Network.

Post Swap with The Twin Coach

This blog tour is restoring my faith in humanity. The more folks I find that are advocating for respectful, connected parenting, the better I feel about the planet. There is hope for the future!

Gina over at The Twin Coach and I are swapping posts today. My post is about labeling, and why it is not-so-good for kids. Check it out over at her site. And don't forget to comment and qualify for a free ebook.

The whole site is full of wonderful posts and resources. Her tone is encouraging, kind, and realistic. You will feel very at home there. And she's parenting twins! I'm highlighting her post Triggers, Tantrums, and Time-outs (Or, When Mom is Losing It), pop over and read it too!
