NaNoWriMo 2012: Prep

[image error] Better late than never... At least that's my story...and I'm sticking to it! NaNoWriMo 2012 starts in 2 days. I have been going back and forth as to what story I want to devote my time to. I've decided to write on a short story series tentatively titled: Protector .

I literally decided this morning. I had an interesting dream about the characters. I woke EXCITED!!! In that moment the decision was clear.

I have notes scribbled everywhere. I have research about the characters, settings, etc. However, I don't have an outline. At least not a typical story outline--I like nice hefty outlines...LOL!

Thus, tomorrow I'm dedicating to working on my outline. I have a good idea of where I want to start and enough details to get me started. I'm confident I can go to sleep tomorrow reading for Day 1 of NaNoWriMo.

I plan to try our a technique I've wanted to use for a while: Storyboarding. I have created a template for my iPad and will use it tonight. Then tomorrow I will flesh it out and get my writing notebook setup.

I will blog tomorrow evening with an update. Whew!

Are you planning to participate? If so, are you ready?

2 Weeks and Counting

NaNoWriMo is exactly two weeks away. Are you ready? I'm not. I am still trying to decide what to write. I have two unfinished projects I need to finish...ASAP. But I love the idea of exploring something new...fresh for NaNoWriMo.

Hum....what's a girl to do?

My Priorities

Writing is something I enjoy. I can use words to express my excitement. I use words to share stories. I use words for self-expression. [image error] But for some odd reason I always considered it a hobby.

I have been rethinking this a lot. Here's why....

This would be a very expensive hobby. My first objection to this hobby notion is writing is wonderful but publishing is expensive.

I want more. My second objection is I want to write more. I want to share more of my stories. To do this I have to shift out of "hobby" mode.

What if... My last objection--more like a declaration--I want more. I expressed this in my second objection but it's worth restating. I want more from myself as a writer and my career.
What's Next...
Writing I know. Beyond that I am still working it out. I plan to update my website and write my way through. Starting with more blogging (Lord help me...) and more books.

Stay tuned...

If characters could talk...

If my characters could talk minus my input I would be in BIG trouble. I can't believe NaNoWriMo is approaching. I have a manuscript I want to finish before starting since I want to write a new story in November. I have a long list of To Do's but I have to move them aside and finish this story ASAP.

It's my goal to have at least two weeks to prep for NaNo. Here I go...again...why do I do this to myself?

2 Places at Once?

Hello Everyone,

I know it's been extremely quiet here. I'm writing and traveling quite a bit. I have the kiddos running around and it's only June! (smile) I've had events in three cities for the past couple of weeks. My car and I have rolled nearly 1500 miles all for the sake of Black Diamond. And I believe its worth it...don't you?

This weekend will be yet another city and another event. We will be in Austin, Texas at the Austin African American Book Festival AND you can catch me online on the author's panel at SORMAG's 2nd Annual Online Book Fair. So, I will be talking with readers, signing books, and chatting with readers and writers online.

You're invited (as always) to join me...us...for one or both of this great events this weekend.

Happy Reading,

Ja'Nese

And then there were 3...

I am busy writing, I'm working with a new accountability group and boy oh boy do I find myself cranking out the words. As I posted last month, I hoped to see my stories place in more than one category. Well, I noticed today that Caramel Surprise is placing in the Kindle Top 100 in three (3) categories. Yeah!!!
[image error] Thank you everyone. I plan to announce my next release really, really soon. Stay tuned...

Working, Writing and Watching

I am working nearly nonstop. It's difficult when you work full time but you'd love to write full time. :o(

I thought I'd blog briefly with an update on everything.
WORKING
The writers boot camp is almost done. I hope to have a few authors participate but the show will go on. I want this to be a great summer writing experience for me. The kids will be traveling and I'd like to maximize my writing time. Doing it with YOU would make it a lot of fun.
WRITING
I am finishing a nonfiction book. I have also tinkered with a short story or two to add to the website. They are a few of my favorite short shorts or flash fiction pieces. I will announce it to the newsletter as soon as they hit the website.
WATCHING...& WONDERING
[image error] I'm watching the peaks and valleys of my ebooks in Kindle. To the right is the one of the peaks for Black Diamond. My crazy mind is really trying to figure this all out.

What makes people gravitate to a title?

What motivates people to leave reviews?

Are the same people buying the other titles?

I believe #31 is the lowest it's been on the list. Now, I'd love to see it place in other categories of romance. We'll see...
