5k Day - May 2013

[image error] Photo Credit bloodylery. Today my writing buddy and friend Lois is hosting her first 5k writing day--with the blessing of Milli from Fear of Writing (and host of 10k writing days).

My plan is to outline through lunch and write in 30 minute sessions until early afternoon.

Update #1 : I had an awesome session this morning. I worked on outlining my story (i.e., timeline, character sketches, preliminary research questions, etc.). I am estimating that my word count is about 2k. I don't have an exact count since I work much of my preliminary work in Excel.

I am going to take a break for an hour or so. My plan for this afternoon is to plot for about an hour or so then get some writing done.

I did not anticipate outlining this long but I believe it will serve my writing time well. I also had a major breakthrough with my story goal and conflict.

With that said...this morning was a SCORE!!!


Update #2: I need to let my brain rest. :) I am at 3349 words with my preliminary work. I roughly worked on plotting. I want to give myself a break. This means I plan to come back later tonight and revisiting the plot points I wrote.

Sidenote... It's amazing to me how you have one idea about what you believe a story will entail but after a few hours, days, weeks...it seems to be totally different. A good different. But different.

I am about to grab some yarn and crochet a bit to let the information marinate.

Impromptu 10k Day

[image error] I am thankful for having writing buddies. I have not found a local writing group that works with my schedule. But I am so fortunate to have wonderful online writing buddies.

Last week I contacted one of my best writing pals and friend, Lois. We usually keep tabs on each other's writing projects. Well I had a mini-venting session. (You know...my need to kick my butt into gear.)

She and I met through participating in 10k Days with Fear of Writing. Anyway...I asked if she would like to do a 10k day with me. And she said "yes".

So Friday we "met" via Google messenger and she introduced me to writing sprints. Are you familiar with them? They are timed writing sessions. Then we reported our ending word count. They were great because it kept me focus for 30 minute segments then we took 15 minute breaks.

The first segment was weird. My brain went blank. (smile) I know why...but it was still weird to sit thinking...what do I write...what should I write... After about 5 minutes of staring at the screen I turned on my writing playlist and let it rip.

I closed the day with a little under 7k words. Yay!!!

What makes this extra awesome (yes, adults use words like extra awesome...) is I did this in about 5 hours of writing. I planned to write more but my hubby surprised me with a trip to the movies to see Fast and Furious 6--which I loved!

I think I'm getting my groove back!

Starting Over...

I can't believe I've been quiet for so long. I feel like I'm starting over again. Life has been crazy busy. To get back on my feet I'm creating new deadlines for myself. Which is easier said than done with summer around the corner.

I can do this...

I've trashed my manuscripts and went back to my outlines. It's time to get this party started!

Day 1: Let the Race Begin

Let the race to the finish line of 50,000 begin. I don't plan to blog everyday. However, I hope to share my journey with you. This will keep me focused and keep you posted.
Protector Update
I just love the potato guy. LOL!!! My word count after this morning's writing session is 3,846.
Plotting Update
Yesterday I decided to get some outlining done. It sort of went well. I have a weekend trip planned which is causing my NaNo kickoff to go south. Oh well... I've worked under worse conditions.

To hopefully give myself some cushion I'm planning another plotting session this evening. I'd love to say I know where this story is going beyond the beginning and the end. O.O

Again...we'll see...
