Post-Apocalyptic Tip

Okay, this will sound odd but I'm going to share it anyway. In my very slim spare time, after hours of writing when my mind can no longer put together a cohesive sentence, I've been reading survival books for research on my upcoming post-apocalyptic series. And some of the improvisational tools and techniques are fairly interesting. One I read recently is on how to "brush" your teeth with a twig. No kidding. I haven't tried this but I can actually envision it working. So find a twig, clean it in sterile water (using a dirty twig would defeat the purpose, right? Not to mention the gross factor) and grind the tip of it between your teeth until the twig begins to separate. Use that end to brush against your teeth. Whala! You have a homemade, natural, albeit not as efficient but widely available toothbrush.

If you're not sufficiently disgusted by this point, check back for more. If you are, my apologies. :)

A Peek into Voodoo

Those of you reading the Residue Series know that it involves a secret world of witches and Voodoo (sometimes written Vodou). So, I couldn't resist mentioning this article on TIME about a secret Voodoo culture in Brooklyn, New York. Book Two of the Residue Series, Birthright, mentions the Loa which is actually explained in the article, too. Teaser Alert: the fourth and final book in the Residue Series will show the Voodoo culture prominently!

I'm Giving Away a KINDLE FIRE at the Orange County Children's Book Festival!

Picture Okay, I've been assigned Booth 34 at the Orange County Children's Book Festival, and, while its located in the Young Adult/Teen area, I'm sorta kinda almost hidden against the Student Center. Completely my fault. I signed up late. The organizers have been very gracious! So, to draw a little excitement from the crowd, I've secured a KINDLE FIRE and will be holding a drawing. Stop by my booth and enter your name to win! You can also get a signed copy of the Guardian Trilogy books while there!

Just a heads up, the Kindle Fire is a Full Color, 7" Multi-Touch Display with WiFi. You can download millions of books along with movies and TV shows! Thank you, Amazon!

Paris' Empire of the Dead

Okay, at the risk of overkill (I mentioned this on my Twitter and Facebook pages and again here because I seem to have readers connecting with me through all channels and I didn't want to leave anyone out) I had to mention an article on CNN about the Paris catacombs - the very same ones I used in Reckoning. It gives some fairly descriptive details although there are a lot more to the catacombs than what was included in the article. Still, it gives a little flavor of what it is like inside the dark, silent tunnels of the dead beneath Paris. Check it out if you get a chance! http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/02/world/europe/wus-france-catacombs/index.html?hpt=hp_c2

Yes, the Fallen Ones are baaaack!

I've gotten a few questions about this lately - and thank you so much for being  interested in asking because I am so flattered when I get questions about my books - so I figured some clarification would be helpful. Yes, the Fallen Ones are the antagonists in the Residue Series. This was hinted at but not confirmed in Birthright, hence the questions I've gotten. They have the same translucent, aged skin as in the Guardian Trilogy but they haven't shown their wings just yet. But they will. Ohhh, yes they will!

The truth is, I shouldn't say they are back because they actually never left. These Fallen Ones were never involved with Abaddon because they've always ruled the witchcraft world, but more on that in Book 3!

Thanks to those who asked (or silently wondered) and let me know if you have any other questions need answering!
