HAVEN Release...just 10 days to go!

Picture I feel like I have been as barricaded from the outside world as my new character, Kennedy Shaw. But after several months of almost zero communication to you all (admittedly, regardless of my efforts, I'm not the best at it normally, but this was a little excessive) Haven is almost complete and ready for release (on JUNE 22ND, two Saturdays from now)! Other than a small teaser, I haven't said much about Haven, which isn't fair because my editor is raving about it, which makes me feel like we are on to something here. Whew! So because I haven't given Haven its due promotional effort, here are a few ways I'm making up for it...

EXTRAS!
I've posted the summarycharacter bios and the inspiration behind the story. Please peruse at your leisure. Hope you enjoy them!

GIVEAWAYS!
Several blogs will be giving away Haven for FREE in contest drawings. I'll post the blog links shortly, so please check back closer to June 22nd.

Win a Copy of RESIDUE on the Upcoming Blog Tour!

Picture As some of you might know by now, the Residue Series is complete. So I'll grant you (if the thought slipped into your mind) that giving away a free copy of Residue, the first book in the series, might be a little overdue. Just a tad bit, right? I completely agree. I'm hanging my head in shame for not having done it sooner. For the most part, I'm the type of writer who likes to write. Three hours in front of my computer will feel like twenty minutes. So, as you can imagine, time flew by for me while writing this series. Then suddenly it was done, finished, the last word of the last book was typed, and I was left realizing I hadn't done very much to actually promote the series. Despite that, you all somehow found the series, and many of you are reading it, judging by the sales rankings. Thank you. I truly, from the bottom of my heart, appreciate it. Because of you, I'll try to be more mindful of time passing in the future and to give away a copy of the book before the last book of the series is complete. Quick side note: On the bright side, if you're the type to wait until the series is finished before starting it, the timing might work well for you. Just throwing it out there... So, where does that leave us? The giveaway, right? Here's the deal on that...each of the blogs below will review Residue and enter your name in a drawing for a free copy (tip: more than one copy is being given away, so you do have a chance at winning one). While there, please check out the blogs. They are serious about good reads and offer fantastic suggestions on that topic!

Just a little teaser...

Picture So I'm hard at work on Haven and thought it might be about time to introduce you to our new hero. He's sexy with a quiet confidence, and he's shown a hesitant interest in our heroine, Kennedy, since the day they crossed paths. Here's a little description of him from Haven. Hope you like it!

Then my eyes swept to the right, stopping when a pair of boots came into view, and my lungs seized up as another word screamed through my mind. It didn't start with B, wasn't part of the game, and made me feel alive, actually part of the living, for the first time in months.

It came screaming through my consciousness at me, making me freeze in place for a few very long seconds.

Harrison…

Slowly, vacillating between whether I truly wanted to or not, my eyes moved with a mind of their own soaking up the sight of him as they ran the length of his body. He stood on the opposite side of the hallway, leaning leisurely against the lockers, his jeans resting snugly around his well-built thighs, his boots crossed at the ankles, his blue eyes locked on me. He didn't move, evaluating me with curious, sincere interest, as was always the case when we crossed paths.

He had been in the sun, and was tanner now, which deeply contrasted with the white t-shirt hanging over the contours of his chest muscles. His shaggy, dark blonde hair was tousled, which made him hardy and more striking. Always, he looked like he'd just walked off the field and into the city.

A Word About Creative Expression

While I know that this post will be Carrie Bradshaw-ish, I'm going to post it anyways, because I liked Carrie Bradshaw and because I've recently realized that I don't share much with you other than book stuff. So, to spice it up a bit, this post is more about a couple of observations and a philosophy on what I've observed.

I went through two synchronous experiences recently in that they both involved creative expression. Unabashed self-expression is something all artists strive for. It is the reward, the gold we find when we open that treasure chest we call a laptop, or paint brush kit, or chiseling pouch, or whatever the artist's respective tool might be. We put aside social norms, fear of reprisal, and simple, plain-Jane ego in the hope of creating something outstanding, breath-taking, something that makes people pause, blink, and mumble, "Wow." These are the moments we hope to give the world, a little piece of us, a stark, lay-it-all-out-on-the-table representation of who we are inside. And it isn't easy. Putting our work out there for the world to scrutinize puts us face to face with our own insecurities, our own shortcomings. So, when I created something from scratch this week that didn't involve the written word (which was my Synchronous Experience #1) I paused, blinked, and mumbled, "Wow", because I didn't know I had that kind of flair inside me, and to be honest, I didn't think it would be so colorful…

Picture I like what I created, even if it burns the retinas, but I didn't intend to share it with you until encountering my Synchronous Experience #2. This came when I overheard a conversation between three women discussing one woman's choice to wear a purple hat with a yellow dress. Two of the women were forthrightly explaining to the third that it was against fashion, social norms, God himself, to wear that purple hat with that yellow dress. And I thought to myself, "Do it. Wear that purple hat. If that's what you feel comfortable in, if that's the style you want to express yourself through then by all means do it!" This woman wasn't hurting anyone by wearing that hat. She hadn't killed an animal and slapped a slab of fur over her head. It was a hat, made of synthetic fibers and thread. Okay, so it didn't color coordinate, or even coordinate with the style of the dress, but it was her expression of self that made her put that hat on in the first place. And I, for one, applaud her.

So my philosophy is this…we should go ahead and show off our artwork, blindingly colorful paintings, purple hats and all, because it's a part of us. And we have a right to express ourselves. This is our life, not theirs. It's our journey, our reward, our treasure. We should enjoy being who we are because each of us is unique, and individuality is a wonderful gift. So start that first novel, streak a vibrant band of yellow paint across that blank canvas, or carve into that fresh block of clay, or even, for the really ballsy women out there, go right ahead and wear that purple hat.

Fallen Given a Five Paw Review!

Picture I have to apologize for not putting up this review sooner. In my haste to take a break and catch up on sleep lost over the last...year, I didn't post this review. Shame on me. Truly. Prophecy Is Now Available!

Picture It's here! The conclusion to the Residue Series is now available online! And to excite you just a little bit, I thought I'd give you a little teaser. Here it is, the first time Jameson sees Jocelyn after she was ripped from his arms at the end of Savior...

It had been nine weeks since we saw each other and the urge to be with her rapidly became uncontrollable. There was no stopping the flood of emotion pent up for so long, and it broke through with overwhelming force. Nothing, not The Sevens, nor the distance, could ever diminish the feelings I have for her. And this became obvious when the simple touch of our hands wasn’t enough. Not for me.

“Damn it all,” I said out loud, giving in, moving forward so eagerly our bodies stopped my motion. She gave me a perplexed look.

“I’m tired of being reserved,” I heard myself grumble before my lips came down on hers.

I suddenly became acutely aware of her hips against mine and the smell of flowers in her hair, the feel of her dress as it brushed across my forearm, but nothing dominated my senses more than the feel of her lips. They were soft and trembling with emotion until they grew impatient, wanting.

You can download Prophecy on:

Barnes & Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/prophecy-laury-falter/1114569486?ean=2940016197739
