One of the more interesting, if minuscule, things about this world that caught my attention was the "data bombs" that plague the children/teens of Stillwater City. You see, data bombs are when kids spout off random facts or trivia pieces without intending to. It's an unintended side effect of their virtual reality education received in utero. How freaking terrifying is that?

Goodreads: 4.5 Stars
Clara Spinner's genetic code, future occupation and date of death have been predetermined by the government. So when her innermost desires conflict with her rigidly planned life, she must hide them or risk losing everything. Fresh out of the academy, she loathes her new assignment as a medical technician, but those who complain tend to disappear, so what can she do? Deciding to make the best of it, she works hard to become one of the top techs at the hospital, specializing in the field of memory retrieval. Clara thinks she has finally found her niche until her tech skills catch the attention of the military. Sent behind enemy lines with a band of soldiers, Clara retrieves a memory nobody was supposed to see. Suspense with a touch of romance—Avant Nation will take you on a thought-provoking ride into the near future. Age Recommendation: Age 15 & Up.

Let's Mock the Maze Runner & More
This Saturday Night Live skit pokes fun at two great genres: fantasy and dystopia. While every genre has its own set of expectations, stories that follow them too closely run the risk of being labeled boring and predictable. The trick is to distance your characters, setting and plot from all of those that have gone before them, while keeping some of the familiar scenery intact. On the other hand, if you stray too far from the familiar course, you run the risk of alienating fans who like the genre specifically because of the elements you have chosen to leave out. As my Great Aunt Josie used to say, you can't win for losing. Ain't that the truth!
On a side note, many in the writing industry say that the dystopian genre is dead. I don't believe that's true. However, they're partially correct because it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Since publishers have decided they don't want to touch it, agents know they can't sell it to them. This means that writers of the dystopian genre, unless they're already a household name, can't catch a break. But the dystopian genre has been around a long time. It's not truly dead and never will be. Therefore, I predict the next great dystopian book will rise up out of the self-publishing market. I'm looking forward to reading it. But for now, let's poke some fun at some of our favorite books across a variety of genres!

Poor Proofreading Makes For Brow-Raising Headlines

These headlines are making their way around the internet for the millionth time, so you might have already read them. Hopefully, they're just as entertaining the second time around. Mind you, some of the topics are seriously morbid, so we're not laughing anyone's tragedy, just the editing oversights over at the newsroom.
Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter
This one was in the SGV Tribune. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day. ------------------------------------------------- Something Went Wrong in Jet Crash, Expert Says No, do you really think so?
------------------------------------------------- Police Begin Campaign to Run Down Jaywalkers
Now that's taking things a bit far! -------------------------------------------------
Panda Mating Fails; Veterinarian Takes Over
What a guy!
------------------------------------------------- Miners Refuse to Work after Death
No-good-for-nothing' lazy so-and-so's!
------------------------------------------------- Juvenile Court to Try Shooting Defendant
See if that works any better than a fair trial!
------------------------------------------------- War Dims Hope for Peace
I can see where it might have that effect!
------------------------------------------------- If Strike Isn't Settled Quickly, It May Last Awhile
Ya think?!
-------------------------------------------------
Cold Wave Linked to Temperatures
Who would have thought! ------------------------------------------------- Enfield (London) Couple Slain; Police Suspect Homicide
They may be on to something!
------------------------------------------------- Red Tape Holds Up New Bridges
You mean there's something stronger than duct tape?
-------------------------------------------------

Man Struck By Lightning: Faces Battery Charge
He probably IS the battery charge!
------------------------------------------------- New Study of Obesity Looks for Larger Test Group
Weren't they fat enough?!
------------------------------------------------- Astronaut Takes Blame for Gas in Spacecraft
That's what he gets for eating those beans!
------------------------------------------------- Kids Make Nutritious Snacks
Do they taste like chicken?
------------------------------------------------- Local High School Dropouts Cut in Half
Chainsaw Massacre all over again!
------------------------------------------------- Hospitals are Sued by 7 Foot Doctors
Boy, are they tall!
------------------------------------------------- Typhoon Rips Through Cemetery; Hundreds Dead
Did I read that right?
-------------------------------------------------
Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe even a chuckle). We all need a good laugh, at least once a day!

I Has A Sad

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Kindle Scout was a last minute detour anyway, and now that it's over, I'm glad to get back on track again. Avant Nation's release date is scheduled for March 19th, just as I had originally planned. Keep watching my blog or sign up for my newsletter for updates.
