Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio scored as Real Madrid moved eight points clear at the top of La Liga with a ruthless victory in the derby

1 min Peep peep! Real Madrid kick off from right to left, and Correa sets the agenda by fouling Kroos within the first 10 seconds.

Before kick off, Vinicius Jr receives his player of the month award for November. He really is in sparkling form.

Leicester City 4-0 Newcastle United: Premier League – as it happened

James Maddison was at his brilliant best, making three goals and scoring the fourth as Leicester ended a bad week on a high by thrashing Newcastle

5 min Boubakary Soumare is getting ready to replace Evans. Leicester have had desperate luck with injuries this season, particularly in defence.

4 min Evans goes down off the ball with what looks like a hamstring injury. Newcastle play on, as is their right, and Almiron rattles a shot into the side netting from a tight angle.

Norwich 0-1 Manchester United: Premier League – as it happened

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 75th-minute penalty secured another 1-0 win for Ralf Rangnick’s side, but they rode their luck against an impressive Norwich

It’s a grim night in Norwich: cold, wet and not especially conducive to the production of vitamin D.

Dean Smith’s pre-match thoughts

Everton 2-1 Arsenal: Premier League – as it happened

Demarai Gray’s blistering injury-time winner eased the pressure on Rafael Benítez on a dramatic, emotional night at Goodison Park

“I woke up today to a foggy, dreary morning here in northern California,” says Mary Waltz, who is more of a Sparklehorse fan than I realised. “The perfect weather for an Everton fan on game day. None of that perky sun to lift my spirits. Until we get DCL back we are going to be goal challenged so I am counting on a low scoring affair and a World Cup-level Pickford performance.”

It’s going to penalties?

Aston Villa 2-1 Leicester: Premier League – as it happened

Ezri Konsa scored twice as Villa continued their strong start under Steven Gerrard with a rousing comeback against Leicester

3 min The first half chance for Leicester. Lookman stabs a short pass behind the defence towards Daka, who drills a low shot towards goal from a very tight angle. Martinez, though slightly surprised by the shot, saves with his feet.

3 min Plenty of early possession for Leicester. I don’t know what else to tell you.

Arsenal 0-3 Chelsea: Women’s FA Cup final – as it happened

Chelsea cruised to a third FA Cup triumph in a one-sided final at Wembley to complete a domestic treble for 2020-21

This is a fine piece on that 1971 final, including some striking details about the state of the pitch and the nutrition.

These teams have met once in the 2021-22 season, a 3-2 win for Arsenal on the opening weekend. Both teams were rusty, though, so I’m not sure how much we should read into it.

Wolves 0-1 Liverpool, Newcastle 1-0 Burnley: clockwatch – as it happened

Divock Origi added another famous goal to his Liverpool portfolio, while Callum Wilson gave Newcastle their first league victory of the season

That didn’t take long. Franck Kessie has put Milan ahead against the bottom club Salernitana. If Milan win they will go top of Serie A, at least until the leaders Napoli play Atalanta tonight.

Manchester United 3-2 Arsenal: Premier League – as it happened

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, including the 800th goal of his career, as United recovered from conceding a bizarre early goal to beat Arsenal

“I think United might be up for this one,” writes Bill Hargreaves. “One game on the bench for local heroes Maguire and Ronaldo as a pick-me-up; unburdening of the guilt associated with growing disrespect for our boy Ole; turning over a new leaf and showing the best side to new boy Ralf. Gooners without Bukayo, and Odegaard not yet firing. Heart says COYG, head fears a United show.”

Remember When department
