3rd over: England 11-0 (Bairstow 6, Malan 4) Just one from the over, as both Malan and Bairstow play and miss at Mustafizur. On the radio Steven Finn muses that “anything back of a length or on a good length is pretty difficult to score off”. Do send me an email or two with your morning coffee.

2nd over: England 10-0 (Bairstow 6, Malan 4). The tall Taskin, navy blue napkin tucked into his trousers waistband, zips in. Bairstow bashes his first ball through the covers for four.

The substitute Gabriel Martinelli’s late goal settled a cagey, crotchety game and ended Arsenal’s run of defeats against the champions

1 min Peep peep! City, in the form of Mateo Kovacic, kick off from right to left as we watch.

“Leave aside Bukayo Saka, let the Arsenal fan’s eye travel over the team sheet,” says Charles Antaki. “He’s good … he’s terrific… great acquisition ... marvellous ... Rolls-Royce there… magnificent… brilliant player… wouldn’t swap that guy for anyone… And then we hit a dip in the road when it comes to the centre forward.

Cricket World Cup 2023: team-by-team guide to the tournament

India are hosts and hot favourites but the strength of the other leading nations promises quite a contest over the next six weeks

Prospects Few will enjoy facing their spin attack, particularly the irrepressible Rashid Khan, and most Indian pitches should suit them. But they lost every game at the 2019 World Cup, despite getting into winning positions against India and Pakistan, and have a pitiful ODI record against the bigger teams. A landmark World Cup win is overdue.

Ange Postecoglou says Richarlison will start on the left, with Son Heung-min staying up front. Given Son’s form since he moved infield, five goals in three games, it was a pretty easy decision.

Aston Villa 6-1 Brighton: Premier League – as it happened

Ollie Watkins scored a hat-trick as Villa destroyed Brighton in transition to win their tenth consecutive league game at home

5 min It’s been a quiet start, lots of harmless possession for both teams.

2 min Villa press Brighton high, forcing Dunk into an error. He allows the ball to run under his feet and out for a throw-in. Nothing comes of it, so I’m not sure what the point of this entry is.
