Just How Dangerous Is Chemo?

Chemotherapy could allow cancer to spread, and trigger more aggressive tumours, a new study suggests.

Researchers in the US studied the impact of drugs on patients with breast cancer and found medication increases the chance of cancer cells migrating to other parts of the body, where they are almost always lethal.

Around 55,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Britain every year and 11,000 will die from their illness.

Many are given chemotherapy before surgery, but the new research s...

The Great War, 100 Years Later

T. Hunt Tooley is chairman of the department of history at Austin College and an Associated Scholar of the Mises Institute. In this interview with The Austrian, Dr. Tooley examines what we can learn today from the First World War.

THE AUSTRIAN: It has now been 100 years since the United States entered the First World War. Was getting involved in foreign wars in this way a break from past policy, or was the US already going in this direction?

HUNT TOOLEY: I used to think of American intervent...

Nothing To Hide

Editor’s note: The following comes from a longtime journalist who specializes in writing for major media outlets and private companies about robots, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Would you allow a government official into your bedroom on your honeymoon? Or let your mother-in-law hear and record every conversation that takes place in your home or car – especially disagreements with your husband or wife? Would you let a stranger sit in on your children’s playdates so that he could...

Obama’s Dual Citizenship

Jus sanguinis (Latin: right of blood) is a principle of nationality law by which citizenship is not determined by place of birth but by having one or both parents who are citizens of the state.  Children at birth may automatically be citizens if their parents have state citizenship or national identities of ethnic, cultural, or other origins.  Citizenship can also apply to children whose parents belong to a diaspora and were not themselves citizens of the state conferring citizenship.  This p...

Donald Trump vs the 4th Estate

By awarding itself the title of the « 4th Estate », the US Press has claimed equality with the three Democratic Estates, although it is devoid of popular legitimacy. It is waging a vast campaign, both at home and abroad, to denigrate President Trump and provoke his destitution – a campaign which began on the very evening of his election, in other words before he even arrived at the White House. It won huge success amongst the Democrat electorate and in the allied states, whose population is c...

CNN Threatens To Put Kid’s Life in Danger

CNN has admitted that it has discovered the identity of a man who originally made the “Trump body-slams CNN” meme.

CNN personnel have contacted the man forcing him to apologise on Reddit using his pseudonym. However CNN remains committed to exposing the man’s ideneity to the world should he retract his apology.

According to CNN,

“CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that (his apology) change”.

CNN is behaving in the most irresponsible way possible for several reasons.

The Good About New Cars

Just like our marriages, nothing’s perfect about cars – whether they are new cars or old cars. Here are a few things about new cars that are both good and bad:

Tire inflator kits –

To save weight (and make room in ever-smaller trunks) many new cars no longer have a spare tire at all. Not even a mini-spare. Instead, when you get a flat, you unbox a tire inflator (and repair) kit, usually packaged under the trunk floor or in a side panel storage cubby. It contains a small air compressor you pl...

A Liberal’s Cry of Despair

For three decades, E. D. Hirsch, Jr. has been one of the foremost defenders of the American public schools. He has also been a critic of the content of American education. None of criticism has gained any traction in the schools.

I did a search on Google for “E. D. Hirsch” and “public schools.” I got a lot of hits, as you can see here.

He has few critics. He also has no supporters with any power inside the schools. At age 89, he still has nothing to show for his time in redesigning the public...

Will Stocks Crash 25% in 3 Months?

Precariously overstretched equity valuations and the purportedly “data dependent” Federal Reserve’s insistence on raising interest rates could bring about the next market correction as soon as October, former Congressman Ron Paul said during a recent appearance on CNBC’s “Futures Now.”

The stock market’s fragility – exposed by a series of volatility events in recent months – suggests that the Fed should tread carefully. However, policymakers, it seems, are focused on bracing for the next cras...

Every-Day Carry

So you’ve selected the perfect carry gun and found a holster that fits your lifestyle. If you’re wanting to be a real problem solver though, there are some items that, in most situations, are more useful than a firearm. Why not consider carrying them all, or at least have them handy?

Here are a few of my own everyday carry (EDC) add-ons, and how they fit into my life.

1. Tourniquet

Here’s a lifesaver that virtually anyone can learn to use, including folks who want to be helpful in an emergenc...
