Homeopathy Was About To Be Abolished

Just when health authorities on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean are activating plans to regulate homeopathic remedies and essentially make them drugs by having to prove their effectiveness, developing science says homeopathy may not operate solely by inducing a placebo effect.

In what appear to be concerted efforts, both the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the National Health Service in Great Britain are coming down hard on homeopathic remedies, enough to scare consumers completely away...

America at Christmas

What if Christmas is a core value of belief in a personal God who lived among us and His freely given promise of eternal salvation that no believer should reject or apologize for? What if Christmas is the rebirth of Christ in the hearts of all believers? What if Christmas is the potential rebirth of Christ in every heart that will have Him, whether a believer or not?

What if Jesus Christ was born about 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem? What if He is true God and true man? What if this is a myster...

Why Is Alphabet CEO Eric Schmidt

Eric Schmidt, chief executive of Google parent company Alphabet, was appointed chairman of a Department of Defense program in 2016 that was established by former President Barack Obama’s administration.

A staunch supporter of the Democratic Party and critic of President Donald Trump, Schmidt still continues to lead the Defense Innovation Board (DIB), even well after the new administration took over in January. This begs the question: should Schmidt’s history of partisan advocacy and condemnat...

Let’s Never Let the Left Live Down

In the fall of 1987 Mercedes-Benz released its 1988 560 SEL sedan.  The car was beautiful, full of gadgets including digital stereo, cassette player, leather steering wheel, and anything else the well-to-do of the time could seemingly want. For the safety conscious the car had anti-lock brakes (ABS), along with driver and front passenger airbags.  The SEL’s seats adjusted electrically, as did its side mirrors.  For buyers willing to spend a bit more, electric seat heaters were an option. Car...

The Betrayer of High Principles

Against Our Better Judgment: The Hidden History of How the U.S. Was Used to Create Israel, by Alison Weir

The United States has a moral prestige in the Near and Middle East unequaled by that of any other great power.  We would lose that prestige and would be likely for many years to be considered as a betrayer of the high principles which we ourselves have enunciated….

–        Loy Henderson, US State Department, 1945

Having recently completed a series on Hugh Wilford’s book, America’s Grea...

The Secret Life of the Ghost

What separates this compelling biography from many others about public figures of the 20th century is that Angleton left no letters, no diaries, no memoirs…a few self-serving videos survive after his disgraced exile from the CIA but invariably he never says anything revealing and falls back on biblical references, eg., “My father’s mansion has many rooms…” Morley thus uses all his wits and journalist’s skills (and the substantial knowledge from his excellent biography of Mexico City CIA Chief...

My Bibliophilia

One definition of bibliophilia is a great or excessive love of books. (A synonym for bibliophilia used by Theodore Dalrymple is Bibliomania.) I have not been diagnosed by an “expert” using the DSM-5, but I think I “suffer” from this “disorder.” (Note use of quotes to indicate sarcasm.) Nonetheless, I am almost always reading books or thinking about books and I have written about a dozen LRC posts on various books so I think I have bibliophilia.

There are at least two types of bibliophiles, on...

Political and Personal Immorality

Many Americans have been shocked by recent revelations of the extent of sexual harassment in Congress. However, no one should be too surprised that those who spend their lives defending and expanding the welfare-warfare state engage in immoral personal conduct. It is only natural that an immoral system, like the welfare-warfare state, tends to attract individuals likely to practice personal immorality.

The welfare-warfare state is built on a foundation of taxation and fiat currency controlled...

Educational Rot

My recent columns have focused on the extremely poor educational outcomes for black students. There’s enough blame for all involved to have their fair share. That includes students who are hostile and alien to the educational process and have derelict, uninterested home environments. After all, if there is not someone in the home to ensure that a youngster does his homework, has wholesome meals, gets eight to 10 hours of sleep and behaves in school, educational dollars won’t produce much.

The...
