My Mail on Sunday column on the death of Her Majesty
When we were children, my brother and I loved to play with my father���s sword. The fact that my mother was quite unworried by this tells you a lot about the world we then lived in. It was a real weapon, made by Messrs Wilkinson, with a beautiful patterned blade and a very sharp point. But the thing which fascinated me about it most was the hilt, several ridges of rough grey sharkskin. PETER HITCHENS: A long war in Ukraine will bring nothing but death, poverty and ruin. It's time for peace
I ask you to think very hard about what the Prime Minister said in Kiev a few days ago: ���If we���re paying in our energy bills for the evils of Vladimir Putin, the people of Ukraine are paying in their blood.���
Mr Johnson added: ���We must keep going. We must show as friends of Ukraine that we have the same strategic endurance as the leaders of Ukraine.���
