Hazel studied history at university and was always fascinated by the medieval period because then the world was a constant source of wonder and amazement. She was also interested in travelling and the far away and how people in different countries lived. Hazel worked for a lot of different organisations after she left university but is now a Producer for BBC radio, which means she gets to make lots of interesting programmes

When Hazel was about five or six she wrote tiny stories. They were all one sentence long and had no punctuation. She wrote her first book when she was 12.
